I’d start going defensive soon. 7 wickets in 27 overs is a steep ask

Starc off thank the lord

I remember a test in the 2000s in the sub continent on some dead wicket, where suddenly Shane Watson started reverse swinging the ball and looked really dangerous, and then Ponting took him off and bowled part time spinners to improve the over-rate.

At the time I thought that was the worst captaincy I have ever seen.

But Paine's cumulative decision making over the past couple of tests (especially) are worse. He is completely clueless.

Patterson said that he felt he was never really accepted by the Windies establishment because he was brought in as a net bowler to King Viv and really put him through his paces and pissing him off by being better than he was 'supposed' to be. Was a real maverick so who knows if that's true though.

Was a very sad but interesting story a few years ago by an Indian journalist who tracked him down in Jamaica - he’s lived a very tough life since he left cricket
