Player Watch #6: Caleb Windsor – Round 8 Rising Star

This is the same dude who wanted Liam Henry with Pick 3 in the Jackson/Pickett draft and said that Henry + Dylan Stephens/Brodie Kemp would be a better option than Hayden Young and Cody Weightman.

#RunsOnTheBoard

I wish he was around for the Oliver pick. There would have been some absolute gold to bring up now from then.

Don't they say that rarily players who will less than 30%T of their own ball (contested) usually don't transition well to AFL?
See from watching him I see that stat as a positive – he holds his width much more than most juniors who play on a wing, which indicates a really good understanding of the role.

Strong tackle numbers too, so is still happy to get his hands dirty

Also why does he have to only play on the wing, we only have sit and pick wingers because we have 0 depth. He could easily play HB/HF as well

Said he had question marks over his kicking last night, just what we need. From the footage I saw a lot of kicks seem to have a slow loping motion. Another bloke who bolts down the field to dump kick like Jayden Hunt.

Begs belief we took this bloke at 7 when what we really need is an agile nuggety mid like a Butters/Gulden type or KP defenders post May/Petty or another key forward. Would’ve even looked at one of the rucks ahead of this bloke as Verall isn’t setting the world on fire and was some good options beyond Gawn. Hell, a bid on Read or Rogers wouldn’t have gone astray. We have spent the last 4 years bringing in wingmen.

This bloke will sit behind Langdon/Hunter/Billings and even possibly Brayshaw, Woewodin and Howes for a run on the wing, absolute wasted opportunity/pick for a position we are already well decked-out in. Dees have a habit of trying to over correct, it’s our obsession with inside midfielders all over again but now with wingmen and medium sized forwards.

Guess one benefit will be that hopefully Mrs Windsor spends some time down at the club.
1- you haven't even seen him play before. How can you possibly think you know more than a team of full time recruiting staff. because you watch some youtube clips?

2. Since when is need relevant? You go best available. gws were going to take him directly after us so that's proof that he was highly rated.

You would've take Fisher McAsey at pick 6 based on needs a couple of drafts ago. Look how well that panned out for the crows.

GwS taking Phoenix Gothard at pick 12 is evidence that they don’t take best available. Hardly evidence here

Bec

Because we really need a small forward and are considering taking Weightman at 8 from reports.

Do you rate the Young/Weightman Combo higher than Henry/Kemp.

Personally I rate the Henry/Kemp as the better duo.
Yeah cool mate, Liam Henry and Kemp over Weightman and Hayden Young.

Cool off, back in the staff who have actually seen these guys play.

Ah sorry, didn’t realise this was North Korea and other opinions weren’t allowed.

Yeah awesome Windsor, awesome pick, won’t go out in straight sets again, kick more goals, go Dees. Good kick, run.

Had we taken Liam Henry we wouldn’t probably be taking Windsor now (we even probably could’ve traded Henry in for less then pick 7 during trade period.) Also Kemp over Weightman will prove the better option long term, he is showing promise down back.

no it's not. they would've rated him at 12. because you read a few mock drafts and you think you know where clubs internally rate everyone 🙄

GWS are actually building a reputation of reaching having also done the same last year with Leek Aleer. They draft more on needs

Yeah **** drafting on needs get best available

Unless it's whine0 then we should have drafted only for needs

there's no such thing as reaching. A player gets taken where he gets taken. if GWS didn't take Phoenix kid at 12 yesterday then does he last until their next pick? Maybe. Maybe not. But they didn't want to take any chances of missing out on him so they took him at 12. So it's not reaching.

After sleeping on it Im just pleased we went away from what we usually do in these situations. Pick the safe inside mid or blow more capital trying to fix forward line issue when its actually a coaching and entry issue. The quicker we can get the ball inside 50 the more chance we have to see what we actually have in our forwards and Windsor provides that ability with run and carry and a vital link in counter attack off turnover.

Our recruiting department hasn't taken a player like this this early. Excited to see how it works out.

You seem to forget BP days where almost every pick was a skinny kid with good skills

I should have said current. Mick easily confused.
