According to Jye, seems like the boys are heading to the US again this year, with a slight tweak.

No matter what happens over the next fortnight, Caldwell said the players’ desire to get better will include another post-season conditioning trip to the US.

Around 20 Essendon players funded their own trip to the Exos training facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, last November in an effort to get better.

“That trip was awesome … we had about 20-odd guys working together on getting better,” Caldwell said.

“We are going over again … a few of the boys are going to Exos (the training facility in Scottsdale, Arizona) … but a few of us (instead) are going to use some contacts in the (US) college (system) to get in some training over there. We just want to keep getting better.”

Pffft. What a waste. They could do the same thing at Deakin.

They could be spending it on an island in Hawaii but aren't. Instead they're spending it bonding for the main purpose of trying new things in terms of fitness.

The frequency and history of elite trainers/programs is also higher in a country with over 300 million people compared to us. The Olympics medal tally speaks for itself. Really the only opportunity any player would have to tap into that is during the off-season/before the pre-season.

You could have said Mildura . At least they would be getting 5 hours out of Melbourne.

He might be the surprise packet to elevate his game to the top tier (or close enough to) next season. I liked what I saw this year and further opportunity in the CBA mix will only improve that even more.
I wonder if Caldwell gets to a Sam Walsh level or a Noah Andersen level because as good as Sam is, Noah will, if not already, one of the absolute top shelf mids in the comp.

Caldwell I believe could become a top shelf mid

Might sound harsh, but I think Caldwell's ceiling might be as a B (/B+) grader. Which is fine, premiership sides are full of them. Anderson has a higher ceiling imo.

Define what makes someone an A grader

Expected to be around the mark for AA squad selection?

I’d say fit and full seasons (based on previous form) for us that’s; Merrett, Parish, Ridley, Martin as the guys you’d pick as likely.

I’d also say guys like Durham, Caldwell, Draper, Duursma, Redman, McGrath, and McKay have all had games or patches of games that show their best could be around the mark, but haven’t done it consistently whether due to age or injury, or just not being that good.
