Hey, welcome back to the boards Choppy - it's been ages since you've posted here..

Have been popping in for a read to slack to contribute.

On the other hand, the jury is still out on the Pickett for Brown deal.

This one will be a winner, chops was at his prime tradeable value, I reckon we gave him away to lightly, should have got Brown and a draft pick, but big tall barstards don't grown on tress. Sides are built around talls, not fat, nasty goal sneaks. In reality Chops did stuff all in the last 2 years with us.

Brown basically needs to get rid of the remaining fat and work on the fitness and endurance and become a Mark Roberts type follower. Has all the attributes

Mark Roberts was known as the 'Fridge'...atm Browny is a 'Fridge Magnet' When he gets rid of his negatives, he'll be a HUGE 'PLUS' for us. :)

Don't forget Grant's Norm Smith medal in 99. Even back then I was confident we have done well out of the swap.

As much I didn't want to lose Schwass, this is a clear winner for us even if Grant was not to play another game.

Well thats the only reason I can come up with for the reason why no one has ever picked him up in 8 quarters of football this year.

If I was in the Hawthorn Box on the weekend or Adelaides the week before I firmly believe the expression "Who the &#$^ on Grant" would have been said about a dozen times per quarter.

I mean its not as if they are focusing on tagging our other players - Simpson is not exactly smothered. Its almost as if the general perception is that the Roos will finish between 16th and 12th and so therefore the opposition is better and the Roos will need to tag them rather than the opposition needing to Tag the Roos.

27 Possessions and 3 Goals later ...

I was keeping an eye on Grant and he was being picked up by Hodge. Grant just ran him to the point of exhaustion, he is a very fit athlete, he and Harvey can probably outrun any other players in the competition save for Crawford and maybe a few others.

Its not that he was not picked up but Grant knows when to run around like a headless chook and then when to burst into space when we are on the break.

Schwab was at the Adelaide game and would have seen the damage Grant did to Adelaide, he just didn't have anyone who could run with him and Crawford is not a defensive player.

I do not know anyone at Carlton who can run with him either.

Sheesh and I thought it was only Jimmy Hird with the rotten BO...much many times do you have to be told that the opposition class players will always HURT you. It seems JYD has the rotation structure working beautifully.

Tas, Grant said much the same on Triple M after the game. He said (along the lines of) he has had one of the best pre-seasons, no niggles to hold him back and pushes himself to extremes to break his opponents.

Dermie changes his mind more than a baby gets thier nappies changed. He's too blase' for my liking to be taken seriously.

Even contribution- best thing about Hawk Game.
Good to have younger blokes contributing in midfield- was good to have midfield helping out defence.
Good to see Drew Petrie, Leigh Brown coming on as they have.. also Brady Rawlings.
Ed- gives plenty of run off HB line.
There is still a place for Sav, tremendous character with the way he went about the game at Port.
Playing along side guys like Stevo, Arch gets you inspired (regarding question from Dermott about blokes coming to the club and playing well despite the facilities, like Leigh Brown etc)

Missed part of it- went out the room:(

Go Roos

Heard it all before...same old same old

How flippin' predictable

Dermie & Robert Shaw wanting to know what it is about 'Shinboner Spirit' blah blah blah...

Nothing about the game this week and nothing new apart from Dermie asking Shagga about enjoying his red wine and dropping into with a bottle of Grange. Dermie you hero

I thought Ries was on him for most of the first three quarters, and then Schwab made a change... Ries went onto the ball and picked up 11 or so touches in the last quarter, and the completely ineffective Hodge minded Grant.

Hawthorn were definitely short on options once McCabe and Vandenberg went off, but they didn't seem to have any answers while those guys were on either....

Tas is spot on. I haven't seen the replay, but I'm sure it won't show how Grant actually got free. The zoom of the camera on the ball will never show what happens down the field.

Grant ran his arse off. Everytime there was a turnover in the backline, he just took off and ran forward. He regularly got 15 metres on Hodge.

As Garry Lyon pointed out on numerous occasions, Hawthron didn't have anyone outside of Crawford and Mitchell, who you don't want tagging, they didn't have a player with the legs to run with Grant. To me Shagga has been guilty of being lazy at times in the last few seasons, so it's a real testament to his improved fitness and dedication.

Now Mike, is Shannon Grant a top 50 footballer yet?

Speaking of brownlow. TAB Sportsbet are offering $23 for Grant but you can still get $41 on Sportingbet. Worth a few dollars on a noted vote getter.

No because he doesent play for the Lions or the Power ( Sarcasm, because most of the media have interstateitis)

Go Roos

Pleased to say I got Shags at 150-1 (before season started) to win the brownlow I had $5 on him...

go you good thing!!

Well without a shadow of a doubt he has 6 votes already.

Then again I thought Simpson easily was best in games last year which the umpires never even gave him a vote in.

Good luck buddy.
