Shagga generally polls pretty well in the Brownlow. If he can keep it up he's definately a chance. If he has a big year I think could even finish in the top four. The difference between Shagga and Simmo. And the reason Shagga gets votes IMO is that he is a great finisher and if he gets 25+ possesions he'll kick 3-4 goals. That type of performance demands that the umpies take notice. On the other hand, most of Simmo's work is further up the ground and he is rarely as damaging in terms of ticking the score board over off his own boot.

Probably ??? try without a flippin' doubt ! And add Wells to that list and you have a TRIPLE TREAT !!

Shagga is 23-1 now.

agree with your points,
but to be fair to captain.....
2 games,
2 goals
so far in 2004.

It'd be great if he can continue contributing on the scoreboard.

This is the article from the AFL site. The last paragraph is what got me interested...

When Shannon Grant played in the Kangaroos’ 1999 premiership and was duly awarded the Norm Smith Medal for his best-on-ground performance against Carlton, it was hardly surprising that he considers that day his ultimate football moment.

After all he booted four goals and racked up 19 touches as the Kangaroos won their fourth - and most recent - VFL/AFL flag.

And in the lead-up to his 200th AFL game against Port Adelaide on Saturday night, Grant said that highlight had yet to be topped.

“(It was) definitely the 1999 grand final - the premiership. That’s what you play for and that’s definitely been the highlight so far,” Grant said at Arden St on Wednesday.

The 27 year-old, who played 58 games with Sydney from 1995-97 after being taken at No.3 in the 1994 National AFL Draft, crossed to the Kangaroos in 1998 after he was traded in a deal that saw Roos’ great Wayne Schwass head to Sydney.

It was a deal that was long portrayed as the ultimate win-win trade for both clubs.

Since his time at the Kangaroos, Grant has been a stand out performer for the club, having developed into one of the Roos most important players and one of the competition’s elite midfielders.

Aside from his efforts on grand final day in 1999, Grant has claimed a Syd Barker Medal - the club’s best-and-fairest - in 2001 while he finished runner-up last year after teammate Brent Harvey piped him by three votes.

And already his efforts in 2004 will have him right up there in the club’s best-and-fairest count, along with skipper Adam Simpson.

Interestingly, Grant, who was appointed with emerging youngster Drew Petrie as a club deputy vice-captain for 2004, said that while he might have achieved plenty in the game, he was always looking to improve his game.

“I think I’m still learning,” Grant said.

“I think it doesn’t matter how many games you’ve played or how long you’ve been around for, you still continue to learn about the game.

“I’m the same as a (teammates) Blake Grima or a Callum Urch, who possibly might play his first game on the weekend, you’re still finding out new things and learning as much as you possibly can.”

Kingy hinted LeCras might get a game a few weeks ago and that hasn't happened yet. Still, it's food for thought.

Read the Trotter article, wasn't really saying that he was in line this week, more that his form has put him in line to be promoted soon.

For mine, Urch is ready and to be frank we need a player who can use the ball well. He may have a few extremes but we can debate that after seeing his game.

With Watson, should make the debut this week.

Agree.

If these two can get 20 kicks between them, that is 20 kicks of pure quality, and maybe 10 kicks into the forward line that can rip a side a new bottom hole in one piece of play, it makes the side, and Laidley's game plan so much more effective.

Callum is pretty one sided, but when he winds up on the left it is a pretty damn awesome thing to witness.

I've said a few times but watching Urch kick at training, nailing 55 metre shots from the boundary 4 from 5, i was in awe, tis guy has an amazing left. For me the changes:

IN: Archer, Urch and Watson
OUT: McKernan, M.Stevens, J.Clayton

Throw Hale at Full Forward, see what he can produce.

Its good that he has his 200th game on the weekend against Port.

the good thing is that he is only 26 and he probably got another 6-7 seasons in him?

This is one of his best seasons so far with a couple of high 20 possi games...he might be up for a couple of brownlow votes and also best and fairest which simmo will probably get it.

Sav

is he in trouble for his spot?

last night 10 of 16 disposals were in the last 1/4 mainly after the first 10mins (so junk time) and the last 4 weeks he has been average at best.

corey jones had only kicked 1 goal in 5 weeks so he was dropped.

grant who is a different payer but normally kicks goal has only kicked 1 in his last 4 games but hasnt been damaging either so i think if next week is average or worse again he could be in strife.

and remember a year or two ago he was dropped and the game after he got like 30 touches and 3 goals againt port so hopefully the same effect could happen.

but besides that there wasnt anything wrong with last night and it was good to see boomer back into a bit of form and colbert back in form.

he hasnt been playin that as well as you have all said but he has done some good things but this week will be his B.O.G game. he might have to give it up i reakon at the end of the year, his injuries have slowed him down, he isnt very mobile anymore and when he gets it he looks lost and he makes poor choices to where he is kicking or handballing.

Cheap game IMO.

Was lazy throughout, but looked ok when the game was a no contest. He has enough runs on the board to fight through his form slump in the ones though.

Corey is in the same boat, but Hale is a better footballer ATM and if he is 100% fit, will come in for him IMO. Disapointing that Laids had to show him a POrt jumper with no.5 on it at half time for him to get a kick. Rucked ok which might keep him in.

That was a great idea by JYD...too bad it was 6 weeks overdue. May have even scared the hell out of some others to lift the way they ALL did.

I agree, Shagga was skimming in this one. I was really filthy on Shagga for being no more than a cardboard cut out in a few stages in the first half. He is too smug. Wouldn't hurt to drop him this week so he can get ready for WCE & Ess games.

I'm sure if he does the defence will roll up with a tape of Licuria and Sansbury and say 'look at that'.

FWIW i think he did it on purpose, but with the tribunal never know what's going to happen, for all i know they could give him 10 weeks or turn him into the tribunal ambassador
