7000 Threads & 350,000 Posts

Some time ago our board passed the 7000 thread mark.

Kildonan to better help us judge this, is there a table showing the relative value of each clubs forum posts . Eg if we agree that a St Kilda post is the top at 100%, interested in the weighting given to others, to see how we compare on a quality ranking:

ie

1. 100% St Kilda

3. 81% Hawthorn
4. etc etc

I used to be all over these thread back in the day. I recall making the 40k-70k threads everytime we got to another milestone

Here's some stats from a while back showing posts per thread. I generally think posts are a better indicator as less threads usually means better discussions have been created.

Anyone want to do a quick update? Just having a glance at our forum, 350,000/7000 means an average post count of 50 per thread. Some increase since 2010! Wonder how much a certain mega thread affected that number

We have Saintsational, which takes quite a lot of our (as in St Kilda discussion) posts.

We have employed supporters... The bolded do not.

The bolded and italicised either have family money, or sell illicit substances and materials, so they're probably not gainfully employed either.

Surely you're not judging how many supporters we have based on bigfooty posts?

It mostly has to do with whether there are other active supporter forums which draw some supporters away from BF.

Saints have Saintsational, Melbourne have Demonland, Essendon have Bomberblitz etc.

I've only been around for 2 years, but you can tell there's been a lot of growth in that short time. We always seem to have a big influx of new members around trade/draft time due to the good info that posters share.

North at the very top with twice as many threads as the next below.

Essendon, like us have a massive a massive amount of discussion on an external site. I am assuming North have virtually nothing else?

Saintsational was a closed forum for a few years, so a lot of traffic would have flowed over to here I imagine.

Thread quality over thread quantity any day though IMO.

SS took off along time before here did. If you add up the posts between the forums we have over 1,350,000. And for some reason BF only really started to take off post 2010. I'll get some stats up soon.

I don't believe North has a similar setup, it's just BF.

Carlton has 550k on their off site forum. I can't work out how many posts BomberBlitz has.

I think that the BigFooty Saints board has a lot to like. The growth here may be partly due to the stagnation of Saintsational but it also has a lot to do with the quality of posters here. People get to know each other and tend to accept their idiosyncrasies. The moderators are great (not talking about myself here) - they spend long hours following the forum closely, keeping an eye on posters, moving stuff from one thread to the one it should have been in in the first place, and attending to outsiders who don't have a grasp on how to be civil in our space and generally guiding posters on social etiquette.

Over the years we have been a much more intimate group than we are now, but we have more quality posters here now than ever before. We do have a few more posters who get under our skin as well. I suppose you do lose something with increased patronage, and there will be posters who lament that, but most accept that the river of time continues to flow, bringing change (even delightful change). Sometimes we have to let go of the familiar and comfortable to the reality of perpetual change, we try to make that change a positive thing.

I came back here after many years away and I tend to agree with the above. This board is well moderated and the thread quality is of a high standard and the discussion based around the topic not the personality.

one thing it has in spades over SS is the ignore function. Someone is on ignore even when quoted. I can always tell when a certain poster is trolling due to the sudden direction a thread takes (usually OT and away from the intended discussion point) so I just skim the next page or so until a moderator deletes of moves the posts.

Seems to be much more traffic on here and much less angst.
