Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - '24 SBM - [Ch9] LDU's camp 'working hard to get a deal done'

I really don't think LDU will want to wait until the end of the season. We all know how much he hates the media attention on him so i reckon he'll have signed prior to the end of the season.

It might be that he's keen to have a strong summer and get off to a good start to the season personally and sign when his market rate is at its highest.
End of 2024, not 2025

I'd prefer he backs himself in, runs inside 50, and kicks goals. He's a pretty good kick for goal on the run.

I mean, if LDU's output was as good as he was capable of I wouldn't be on his back. I don't ride McDonald or Jy because I don't think they are capable of doing more than what they give us. I think LDU has shown he has the skillset and attributes to do a lot more, he should be more cake than potato and we are getting a lot of the grunty work lesser players are capable of doing and we aren't getting as much of the polish or class that he is capable of delivering imo.

He should be kicking more goals, he has the opportunity to run inside 50 and go for goal but he seems hesitant to do so and he is capable of hitting targets inside 50 a lot more than he does at present, he just tries to stab a perfect pass and it doesn't work WAY more often than just a simple training drill 3/4 kick out in front of a lead and let them adjust to the flight of the ball.

I think off his own boot he is capable of increasing our scoring by 2 goals a game on average through better decision making and execution and reduce goals kicked against us by 1 through a lot fewer turnovers, that would roughly turn 5 or so games we lost into wins and another 4 or 5 that we were never in the game to be more in range. He can have a significant difference to where we finish and I would much rather see him focus on what he can do better than looking at others to do better. Without the right mindset things wont change for the better.

Prediction: when we do announce LDU re-signing the usual suspects will say its another Brady stuff up coz too many years and too much $$$

Gonna have to be a lot of years and a lot of dollars. His manager has worked this beautifully. Built expectation that there are plenty of suitors offering $1m plus a season and 100 year contracts. PR machine is working very well.

Any dollar amount for at least seven years is absolutely fine.

I'm fine with it, let's wait.

We have quality midfielders coming through. If he wants out we might be better of with a decent trade and/or pick.
How is any team better off by losing their best player for a ****ing draft pick?

FMD.

^This. If he does go it isn't for the money so the question will be WTF is going on?
Personally reckon he's the sort of guy who literally just focusses on his job of playing footy and preparing himself and just lets his manager take care of the rest. Probably isn't one bit phased by it all.

Well he did learn under the best. Cunners.

The not hitting the target is a symptom of the fact that the forward line doesn’t lead.

It’s full of blokes who want to stand toe to toe and wrestle.

LEAD YOU campaignerS.
You can make as many excuses as you like. The basic facts are:

  • Below average kick
  • Not a goal kicking threat
  • Woeful defensive intent
  • Never been in the leadership group (!)

Let someone else pay him 1.5 a year if they’re mad enough to.

lol.

it’s not a zero sum game.

Brady/Us have been good at player retention. That is not really and area for concern.

However if you look at our trading from 2020 and think that it’s been all roses I really don’t think your looking hard enough.

Like it or not Brady is the face of that.

I agree with all this, except I don't think mindset is an issue at all with Luke. He works as hard as anyone, but whatever work he has been doing on his kicking isn't working. His kicking technique is poor to horrible and we need to fix it or he will never reach his potential. As for most things wrong in the world, I blame Matthew Lloyd.

This is a silly exaggeration. There were a few times early in the year when he didn't work hard enough back. But after that he was better than the rest of our midfield group except Jy. Wardlaw's intent might be amazing, but he doesn't have the fitness to do it for as long as Luke does.

So what you're saying is we need to ignore the good things Brady does and focus only on the negatives.
