What's the contract length?

No idea. Brave Bison/Rightster had a 3 year deal.

So where is the much bandied cost come from?
Content - should be existing.
Bandwith, storage, streaming production?
I see amateur streaming productions all the time.
Where is the cost in upscaling?

Bandwidth and storage architecture. Site maintenance and operation.

Wow!

Pimco Bonds, based in Boston & New York, is American "old money." IIRC, has US $300 billion+ under management.
Some of its senior executives have become major fans of AF in general, & GWS in particular (often flying in for GWS games).

SEN Radio GWS CEO on Potential US Ownership of GWS

With the Australian dollar @US 56 cents, any Australian assets can become "very affordable" & very attractive.
However, would US raiders/cashed-up foreign Hedge Funds, Pension Funds etc. consider GWS a very atractive & profitable investment? No- profits in GWS would be very small, if they did make a profit
...UNLESS they wanted to take AF to the USA, to become a major sport? Put that in your pipe & smoke it?

Would the AFL find a US takeover of GWS attractive? IMO, yes. Huge potential to get into the US market. The US would be very happy if just 1% of the US 320m pop. watched the AFL regularly; & played GR AF in large nos. also.

Particularly if some Melb. teams (& there will always be some who are impecunious, even in the "good times") sell their home games to be played in LA/San Francisco, Boston, & New York.
Melb. clubs, to make the travel more amenable, could play in 2 or 3 week stints ie Game 1 LA; whilst staying in the US, 6 days later game 2 Boston; staying in the US, 6 days later, Game 3 NY. Then fly back asap to Australia.

Pimco bond titans buy into GWS Giants

Meet the mystery American bond traders who are in charge of hundreds of billions of investor dollars globally, but have quietly been putting their own millions into the GWS Giants. Market gurus and Pimco executives Dan Ivascyn, the Boston-born “bond prince”, and New York-based Marc Seidner will both be in Australia by Saturday morning in time to see the Giants clash with Richmond in the AFL grand final at the MCG.

The sports-loving pair maintain an extremely low profile when it comes to their passion for Australian rules football, but are understood to have also backed the Giants financially and become an integral part of the club’s off-field operations. That has extended to having close relationships with Giants president Tony Shepherd and chief executive Dave Matthews, and coach Leon Cameron. They are also, accordingly to one AFL insider, a “significant” part of the group of anonymous corporate supporters who have stumped up $2.5m annually to buy naming rights for the club’s home ground, known as Giants Stadium since the beginning of the year. “It is important to say what they are doing is sports philanthropy and is on their own and not with their company’s brand attached to it,” GWS president Tony Shepherd told The Australian. “They have fallen in the love with the game, and with the team, and we are blessed to have these sort of people involved with the Giants. They came to us, it was not a matter of us approaching them. They certainly don’t want any publicity. But they have very quickly become experts in the game.”

Mr Ivascyn is Pimco’s group chief investment officer and a managing director of the firm’s Newport Beach office in Los Angeles, and has arrived in Melbourne ahead of Saturday’s match. He manages Pimco’s Income Fund, which reportedly has more than $300bn in funds. A highly diversified yet defensively positioned fund, it has been attractive to investors shifting back to the bond product due to interest rate cuts and monetary easing policies by central banks around the world.

Would major US financial institutions, generally, have any interest in GWS? GWS profits would simply be too small (if they ever made a profit)
...UNLESS the US main objective was a long term plan for the AFL in the US to become a popular TV/cable sport; & for AF to become a popular GF AF sport for jnrs & adults to play. And, eventually, establish a permanently US based team/s in the AFL?

Put that in your pipe & smoke it.

Well, they were definitely interested in staging an AFL game. Why stage an AFL game if you're not wanting to follow it up?

Sydney - 4,500,00 population
Perth & Adelaide - 2,000,000 combined population
The three biggest economies in Australia - ranked by size

Sydney
Victoria
Western Sydney

Do the maths. Mind you teh AFL isnt skilled in expansion and has dropped the ball significantly in its support ofjunior expansion in Sydney.
Rupert may have to step in.

For those who think it may be difficult to break down some of the rugby league barriers in NSW & QLD, think again.

This is as savage a spray as I've seen in my 25-years living in Sydney and if they lose their TV rights, it may permanently cripple them forever.

"Nine...media company wants to negotiate a new contract with the code".

This is "code" that the NRL can expect cuts to their current deal with Nine (I am not aware of Fox Sports making, publicly, similar aggressive comments- but Fox are likely to cut also- both citing Force Majure/Act Of God provisions in comtract law to void the media contracts).

This reduction in the current NRL media rights (ie for 2020-2022) was foreshadowd by M. Chammas & S. Mascord's recent articles

Then just imagine what will happen when they manage properly now Peter V'landys in charge

Why is this guy portrayed as the messiah to Rugby League fans? Genuine question, I know his racing background but has he had any other involvements in Rugby League in the past? or is the ARL admin that screwed that anyone at this point is the messiah?

As a league fan from the 80’s I’ve lost count with the amount of saviours the game has had since Super League. Becomes a joke really.

Matthews has said there are 10 or so cricket grounds being built all over the country, at around 15k capacity.

I'm not even sure why you'd ask that question here, mate.

Because they are desperate

Ultimately the game is in the same position it has always been. Unable to shed parochialism for the the true independent leadership that can take the long view in its strategic management

To think that horse racing spivery is the same skill set as professional football code leadership is risible

Normally I wouldn't but it was just in reply to Aussie in exile post plus the man intrigues me.

I hven't seen anything yet to get excited about, but this is a great opportunity to make serious change in the way the game is run and also developed outside of NSW and QLD.
