Last I knew BBL was cricket and the BBL rated well whilst other cricket didn't.
The BBL averages 550k viewers per game. The India v Australia test series averaged 716k. So I'm afraid your impression is incorrect.

That's hardly anything to trumpet.
It is when fools like Roy Masters write "no commercial network can exist without NRL or AFL".

tell me. How many BBL matches and many India vs Australia matches?

Roy's always good for a laugh. let's change that statement to
"any commercial network without a supply of major sports will find it difficult to compete in the longterm."

That doesn't matter. You said no other form of cricket rated well, I have shown that it can and has.

That's a fairer statement to make. I don't think even this will hold over the next decade, however. I predict online viewing to well and truly overtake TV broadcasts.

Don't be absurd, of course it matters the period of ratings not just the individual level.

Times are changing but FTA will still be around for a very long time. Radio is still around and it only has audio.

"the BBL rated well whilst other cricket didn't" is what you wrote.

Yes. a simple statement.

I have shown that other cricket does rate well.

In ONE game only. Networks run then year-long. They cannot survive one one test match. that's a very simple concept.
How many BBL matches again? Please show me that. What is the aggregation?.

Facts are facts, you can try and skirt around them however you like, it doesn't stop them being true.

Oh dear. Some posters are not going to like this

Good move by CH7 to either drive the price up for the opposition CH9 and Fox
or either take control of the opposition NRL.
I remember when baseball was booming in Australia, the ABL getting decent interstate crowds
and CH9 bought the rights and buried it - end of the ABL!

Driving up the price for 9. Nothing more.
If they get it for cheap though will be interesting times.

Plebs with short attention spans seeing this as anything close to a shot at the northern clubs of the AFL are hilarious.

Pip you got out of bed again? Surprising considering the deathrolls of your heartland club the Wanderers.

Still comparing Wanderers national ratings to The Giants Sydney ratings?

"Channel 7's ratings for AFL in NSW and Qld remain unimpressive"
I'm not going to get into a debate about my dad is bigger than your dad, I've just quoted a part of the article.

The Storm have never enjoyed extra salary cap space, having the best juniors sent to Victoria year after year or gr support like the Giants and Suns get, not to mention still being virtually shut out of fta coverage in their home town.

Most of Storms funding hasn’t come from the NRL though, which I think is his point. More money has probably been pissed away on soccer in America or China for such small returns then any other sport but again that’s not really what he was eluding to and it was really a straw man argument knowing most sports and leagues aren’t run like the AFL so it is obvious that no other club would’ve been.

The three biggest economies in Australia - ranked by size

Sydney
Victoria
Western Sydney

Do the maths. Mind you teh AFL isnt skilled in expansion and has dropped the ball significantly in its support ofjunior expansion in Sydney.
Rupert may have to step in.
That’s poor maths though, you are double counting.

They tried to get extra cap space.

We only had extra space when we had extra list spots.

Weren’t the Storm given all the best players
From clubs being killed off on their start up. Timing with the cull there.

Year after year? Lol

I seem to also remember part of the deal to get an independent commission was a guarantee to keep the storm alive.

As for grassroots that’s on the nrl and storm not seemingly wanting to grow it down there.

They tried but didn't get it
Perhaps this is why the Channel are interested in broadcasting the NRL

They didn’t get a bigger list size to warrant it.

Maybe if they tried to legally do it

Many reasons why.
