11. This is how i found the inhabitants of each section.
- Social club. A very pessimistic group of fanatical male supporters, who didn't mind the occasional glass of chilled ale.
- Sherrin stand. Dyed in the wool Collingwood supporters who may not have had much to do with the players but absolutely loved them.
- Ryder stand. A lot of families who have followed Collingwood for generations and some past players.
Rush stand. Genuine footy people who loved Collingwood, much like Stkildas animal cage, but 20 times bigger.
The hill. Unfortunately was stuffed up by the ground lengthening, but always had a mix of drunks, bogans and slightly nervous opposition fans.

Interesting categories. Can’t really disagree.

Do you recall two cheer squads at Vic Park? An ‘inner’ and an ‘outer’ cheer squad. I was briefly a member of the ‘outer’ squad, when I was about 12. We were on the south wing or pocket, in front of the Rush Stand. I think we were literally on the outer, and not sanctioned by the club. Some of us behaved a bit badly (not me of course). We were ‘led’ by an older guy who should have known better. Like an early version of Joffa.

My mum was very worried about me at the time. But I survived.

I think i do, yes. There seemed to be a sort of rebel cheer squad formed in the forward pocket at the Yarra Falls end that would trade chants and insults with the opposition fans behind the goals.
Your mum didn't need to worry, i rarely saw much trouble at Victoria park, unlike VFL park and MCG where there were some huge punch ups in the 70s and 80s.

6. I have no time for politicians, but there was no mistaking the guy sitting next to me in the Rush Stand one day. I think his name was Robert Ray, and was on the news most nights for some reason or other.
The thing i liked was he wasn't poncing around in the social club or anything, just sat there quietly watching the game and had this pissy little Magpies sports bag, the kind a little kid would have, tucked under the seat.
I sat right behind Robert Ray one day in the outer .Just quietly observed the game minding his own business .
