Geez Dazza, Dan Gilbert has had big crack at Lebron. Could you imagine if a president wrote that about an AFL player leaving. That is insane!

dan ripped him a new one....the only problem being all the game changing free agents have been inked and they lost him for zilch. how can they rebuild?

i always thought lebron was a jerk, he has now proved it. and how do bosh/wade feel about him having his ego special? should they as one announced at the same time?

he may win a championship with wade/bosh, ok its a given, but lebron will never be in the jordan/kobe stratosphere.

i was a big kobe hater...the 09/10 finals series has gone some way to changing my mind.

especially the phoenix series, it was jordan esque. doing whatever to help his team win and playing with a broken finger all season long.
Finals or playoffs?

Because in the Finals he was not good. They won in spite of him, not because of him. Yes he won the MVP, but he was always going to, regardless of how he played.

Anyway, probably time to re-rail this thread about Gazza.

6-24.

The situation in the NBA with money chasing absolute disloyalty is a sign of where AFL may go with unfettered free-agency.
I hope the glorious tribalism of AFL can survive Vlad the Destroyer and Socialist.

I think Jordan did it for longer and better than Kobe can hope to now, but true, I never liked him much and hate him less now.

For all that, I think Perkins going down was the only reason the Celtics lost Game 7. I think pound for pound they marginally shaded LA and were somewhat unlucky down the stretch of that series.

Don't worry about the trolls. Gazza is clearly going. There is no doubt.

And how about what happened at 3/4 time? Not good.

the game wasnt televised in adelaide... what happened at 3/4 time?

Gazza clearly wasn't happy about spending time in the forward line at the bounce in the 4th quarter, sort of seemed to have a dip at Bomber as he was leaving the huddle.

Bomber left the pack and Gazza pulled away slightly waving his finger at him (in a not happy jan moment)

After the game chappy said something like 'bomber told us at 3/4 time that if the guys in the middle weren't going to respect their opponent and be offensive at the same time then he'd find someone who will'

Start of fourth quarter. Enright to the middle, Gazza sent outside the square.

Bomber used both Gaz and Chappy in the forward 50 in the last 1/4 because he didn't think the forward line was capitalising on our opportunities. Chappy, in typical fashion, just got on with the task he was given.

Can we put Jr on a plane to the GC right now ?
Spoilt brat

Yes.
But that wasn't what happened at 3/4 time.

Missing the point mate.

I thought he got it spot on myself, what exactly is "the point"? It indeed looked like Ablett was told he was starting forward and didnt like it....

Forthrite, yes he's the best attacking mid in the game. However, in September we'll come up against the best defensive teams in the comp, and teams will try to expose him going the other way. Thompson is right in being ruthless in this way and if we win the flag it will be worth it.

Even if we are all resigned to the fact that he's leaving, Bomber is acting like a complete moron.

I don't care if Ablett doesn't show any respect to his opponents, the side is 10x better with him in the middle.

If Ablett had signed a contract extension to stay with Geelong at the start of the year do you think Bomber would be acting the same way in regards to Ablett? I don't.

Acting like a moron? How, by playing Ablett (and Chappie as well by the way) in the forward line for reasons he explained after the game? Last time i checked the coach was allowed to move players to whichever positions they think will benefit the side, and our coach has enough credits in the bank for us to trust his judgement.

And even if it was the wrong move, what right do the players have to argue with the coach on the ground?

^^^^^Forthwrite

i have similar concerns as yourself.

It is possible Ablett is being played forward as a type of punishment, and he clearly doesn't like playing there too much.

Of course, it is possible he is being thrown forward more often due to our forward line having various outs this season. But i also suspect something else at work.

I understand Thompson's frustration (we are all frustrated over this issue). But i don't appreciate some of the asides Thompson has made re Ablett in the media, and i would have major problems if game day decisions were being made on the basis of any tit-for-tat. That said, Ablett's presence on the forward line worked this weekend. But why has he been played there for such prolonged periods of other games?

Yep. The coaching panel has always said they want to be a step ahead.
Maybe Gaz isn't towing the party line?

It seems that way.

And fwiw, he is doing stuff all when forward.

Maybe that is where MT has an issue.

"when you go there Gaz, it's not party time"

Ablett hasn't suddenly started playing that way this year. He has always played that way.

Ablett in the middle, even if he's paying no attention to his opponent is more valuable to us than anyone else in the middle.

Well then even a great player like Ablett has room for improvement. Other players have roles to play in the team, why not Ablett?

Like I've said, if it means us winning the flag I don't care if Ablett is upset by Bomba's treatment. And that's regardless if Ablett goes or stays.

Mate, you want to talk about socialism, free agency is the very epitome of capitalism in action ;)

If a player started his career at a club and has played a specific period of time at the club (say 150-200 games), a salary cap concession should exist so the club can keep them if they wish to stay. The Lebron case is different, money was not the issue - he wanted success. With Ablett money is the key issue. I do know the NBA has a similar idea.

Here's an interesting decision that Bomber needs to make. Brenton Sanderson has been appointed as Bomber's successor. But he is also favourite for the Port Adelaide job. Now, I think Sando will stay at Geelong if Bomber definitley leaves after 2011 as touted. However, Bomber may be having second thoughts and staying, meaning that Thommo needs to make a decision, stay or go, before next season, so Sando knows what he is doing. Maybe Thommo should be pressured into a decision, like Ablett is by him. It is just as unfair if Thommo stuffs Sando around as he claims that Ablett stuffs him around.

Besides, I didn't see too many of you defending what the coach did when Gary Ayres was coaching us. But coaching premierships makes one untouchable, doesn't it?
