It is, but Vlad wants Premiership Socialism where each side wins a premiership every 16-18 years. A dominant side is not good for business, unless it's an expansion team like GC.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, Vlad only wants two sides to win a flag over the next 16-18 years-Gold Coast and West Sydney. He couldn't give a stuff about the rest of the clubs anymore.

If it wasn't for him and his delusions about anyone on Gold Coast or West Sydney wanting an AFL club, Ablett wouldn't have a decision to make.

l know many people disregard this and say he needs to make an independent decision etc etc but emotions dont work like that in reality. l reckon he has been gone/will go to date but...

l honestly reckon Nathan is an important piece of the puzzle - l think playing with (and supporting) his brother would mean quite a bit or at least be an important cherry on top of the money pie. Possible change in fortunes for us with a downturn in Nathans footballing fortune of late?

I see Collingwood re-signed Didak, Reid and Sidebottom. I feel like a mug everytime I see stories like that, (Hawks have held onto their stars ditto for St Kilda)...an absolute mug.

C'mon, Selwood, Stevie J and Hawkins have all resigned this season. No doubt all three would have been targets for the two new clubs. It's just unfortunate that our last out of contract star just happens to be the best player in the competition...

This is very true, you are indeed a glass half full man (person) I need to be more like that!

Corrected to prevent cardiac arrests amongst Geelong supporters. :p

Alright, now I know this might be a bit simplistic but just maybe GAJ hasn't made up his mind yet? I have no idea why he wouldn't have but there is every chance he hasn't, hence the reason they are saying it won't be made until after the finals. I know it's alot easier for him to go then but just maybe he really does just want to concentrate on 2010 and worry about 2011 and beyond at the end of the campaign.
Secondly, maybe he wants to wait and see who GC will infact have? Given all the names that re-signed with their respective clubs at the moment, just maybe GC are feeling a little edgey cause I'm tipping all these players not going to the GC wouldn't be much of a carrot for anyone thinking about going up and there. At the moment, it looks like all the uncontracted players are just going to be also rans to some degree, maybe Harbrow, Bock and few others but hardly world beaters in which case surely that would not be much of an enticement to go up there. As much as it annoys us to see all these loyal players re-signing with their respective clubs, it may well just be the best thing for Geelong as it puts some doubt and questions in GAJ mind.

No, there is not.

My latest mail tells me he isn't going..

And it pains me to see so many Geelong faithful jumping ship and 'conceding' he's gone... Have a bit of faith people.

Trust me

You'll find that deep down everyone wants him to stay, but having watched the BLURRRR BLRRRRR BLAAAAHHH NAH NAH NAH NOT GOING NOT GOING mentality of the West Coast fans all through 2007 only for them to look like utter chumps when Judd jumped ship I believe the concession of Ablett leaving is how Geelong fans are gearing to protect themselves emotionally if/when it happens. I would imagine we'd all love nothing more than to see the headline ABLETT SAYS STAY and then all feel a bit silly for ever having doubted him rather than to act like he's untouchable right up until the day he grabs the oversized cheque and leaves everyone shocked and gutted.

It's as much a defence mechanism as it is a loss of faith.

This is a very very good point, that perhaps I haven't given enough thought.. Better to be proven wrong and be happy that he's staying than be proven wrong and be shattered that he's going. perhaps we should cover our arses and be slightly skeptical? haha

However if he was to go (which I am still convinced he's not) there's still not much benefit in being able to say "yes, i KNEW he was going to the Gold Coast.. Told you so blah blah" because at the end of the day you'll still be disappointed he's gone..

I agree there wouldn't be much, if any, benefit in this but it's more about thinking the opposite (thinking he is staying) and dealing with the massive dissapointment if proved wrong.

Plus, why would you not decide by now anyway? If you wanted to stay at the club and you knew the offer you had from them late last year was the most the club could offer why would you delay the 'i'm staying' announcement? Doesn't make any sense.

Buddy came out last year and declared his hand early - fantastic for the Hawks and their supporters. We are left hanging to the last possible moment. Why? - because I am thinking the answer will be sadly different.

I wasn't really making this point at all. What I was trying to convey is that it is better for instance, to know early that a loved one is dying of inoperable cancer. It gives you time to enjoy moments with that person, and steel yourself and prepare for their death - as opposed to thinking everything is normal and you have your whole life with that loved one, not saying the important things to them, not making the most of your time with them, only to have them drop dead in front of you one day without warning. The bewilderment, the loss of option to say goodbye and brace for life without them, these things will hurt you more than expected grief. It's really not about being right in this instance.

Does anyone think that the Ablett gene has anything to do with all this, Gary Senior quit footy during 1993 for 6 months during the prime of his career. Which was quite strange. Nathan quit after playing his best year in 2007 after a premiership, then kept the club hanging for a year, and now he is up playing at GC, Again quite strange. And now Gary jnr won't be straight with what he is doing, Why would he give up the cats for a new team full of teenagers, again quite strange.

I don't want to sound like I'm bashing the family, I am not, I am a huge Ablett fan, just saying that the Abletts have been fairly unpredictable. I am guessing that Nathan playing at GC would have a large impact on Garys decision, I think they are quite close as brothers, and maybe the deal is hanging on if nathan gets a spot in the GC team. I think the decision for Gary maybe lies in his brother, rather than the money. Also, I'm not sure but I think he split with his Girlfriend this year, something that doesn't hold him back from leaving.

I would be incredibly dissappointed if Gary left. Really hope he sees the light at the end of the season.

BC - "OK so he wont sign until end of year, but we agree on terms and final right of negotiation'
LP - "yes"
BC to FC & MT - "ok i think he will stay, how do we put a positive spin on this runaway press?"
FC - "influence Gaz to talk up MT and club in his column" " and encouragehim 100% that we are behind him at ALL times, without compromising club team vision"
BC - "like it"
MT - "well if its going to be a positive spin, how about you 2 get him to commit without signing in principle. Then get hi to declare his intentions after round 22, momentum build for our next fiunal tilt"

BC - "shit Mark i feel you are looking at my job after coaching.......you are a genius"

just throwing it up :)

Hahah :D It is interesting watching people take their stance on whether he is going or not. As has been said before, no one here really knows what is going to happen. Those who claim to know what will happen don't form their opinions on fact - which is sad but gives the subject importance and interest to them. People want to be able to say "I TOLD YOU SO" when the final decision is announced. Time will tell, I hope he stays. :thumbsu:

This whole thing has gone beyond a joke. That fat farq Demetriou has a whole lot to answer for with all this Gold Coast rubbish.

Personally I think Ablett could (and would) go down in history as one of the greatest players ever. He'll be remembered alongside the legends of Matthews, Carey and his father's calibre - if he stays with Geelong. And it would only too fitting, but I highly doubt he'll ever reach the same heights again whilst playing for the Gold Coast.

For the good of football I'd love to see him stay.

Re: Ablett-Gold Coast Chatter

he said he was looking to be there 3 - 4 days a week according to the article. That amount of time per week would bode well for him staying, but he might have just said that for the sake of it and is simply looking for an investment property. I guess it will make sense one way or the other when the world knows about his decision.
