Disgrace in every sense of the word.

But yeah 350 games.

I'm pretty sure he would have you covered for charity work.

I'm not really one for my toasting my own players on the main board, but I would like to say that he is one of the chief reasons I started following the sport in 2003. He was really charismatic in the way he played and looked and has been my favourite player ever since.
Direct quote: "Racism has a face. It's a 13 year old girl."

You can paint that up any way you like. His words are clear and unambiguous.

His attempt to make out as though it was the girl's interests to which he was giving priority was in direct contrast to his actions. He saw an opportunity to milk, and milk it he did, with scant regard for the intent of what the girl said, the reasons she said it, and indeed the fact that this was a child, not an adult, that he was deciding to shine the public spotlight upon.

I found Goodes' handling of the incident to be utterly self indulgent, verging on abhorrent.

And might I say again that it is a remarkable coincidence the vast majority of those who defend him are Swans supporters. Uncanny.

Funny how your views directly contrast with those who saw fit to name him the Australian of the year. But I guess the selection committee were all Swans fans ay?

If Swans supporters aren't happy with some of the responses here then perhaps this thread should be on the Swans board.

I thought he was awesome early on, even had his photo as my avatar at one point. But his antics in recent years have diminished my view of him.

Great effort to get to 350 games. Hope he doesn't get a touch on Friday

Would still be a superior human being in comparison to Carey though wouldn't he Rod ???

No, I'm pretty sure a thread about a player reaching 350 games, winning the leagues highest personal honour twice and being a two time premiership player justifiably is placed on the main board of a football forum. Just a shame those that aren't particularly fond of him can't find it within themselves to click their mouse onto a different thread rather than post vitriolic shit in this thread.

Nobody hated him for this stuff before he called out racism. You people keep bringing out the red herrings but everyone sees through it. A bunch of other players have slid in the past or have played for a free and none have copped even a fraction of the hate he has. It isn't about diving. It isn't about sniping. It isn't about sliding. You know and I know it.
You might be wrong there. He has been copping criticism for his feet first into tackle situations for 4 yrs now. I've never been a big watcher of Sydney games, but I do listen to sports radio all day everyday and he has been mentioned many times prior to this incident for being unsportsmanlike for sliding.

I have read some bullshit on here over the years but this takes the cake.

What you are saying is that if an employer chooses to hire a white person over a black person despite them having similar qualifications then that makes the employer a racist. Yet if he chooses the black candidate he is not? The very essence of being anti-racist is treating people equally. Your example couldn't be further from doing that.

A racist can be of any ethnic origin. Racism is not the exclusive domain of white anglo-saxon people.

That's not what he's saying at all. Learn to read.

The key part of his statement was 'more likely'. If someone has the same experience, education and qualifications then he should not be more likely or less likely to hire a white candidate over a black candidate or vice versa.

Apparently (and I just learnt this) Goodes is the only person in the history of the AFL to ever get reported.

That's hilariously ironic, bearing in mind he has been reported so rarely relative to other players. Well played.

Oh, hang on ... that wasn't the point of your post?!

Flog of a bloke.

Had a great career up until about 3 years ago. Ill always remember him for being the AFL's protected species, who let him get away with whatever he was up at the tribunal for, purely for the purpose of promoting the game in the north-east australia region.

Same category as Fevola for mine. Amazingly talented and champion player. Ended his career as an absolute tool. How he was awarded Australian of the year just goes to show how desperate Australian politicians are for an aboriginal role model.

It's a shame his ego soiled his football achievements later in his career. Retiring at 250 with character intact would have been far better than pushing to reach 350 and earning a reputation as being a divisive, self-centred nob.

I'm sure he'll just have to console himself with playing on for those extra 5 years, winning an AA position, 2 club goal kicking records, a B&F , and a Premiership

Oh and the joy of knocking your mob out of two finals campaigns along the way. ;)

This is ridiculous. Some things should transcend team rivalries and acknowledging true greats is one of them.

Goodes will go down as a great of the game - in his prime he was devastating, capable of playing pretty much any position and demolishing a team. He deserves all the kudos he gets for his skills and his ability. Sure in the last couple of years as he's slowed down he's become prone to theatrics (like a lot of players do as the pace starts to go) and I've booed him at the ground for that, but that doesn't detract from what he was for a long time - a genuine matchwinner.

I'm not going to bother arguing with anyone who starts about his off-field stuff - what he does is something he feels is important and fair play to him. More AFL players should use their profile to help causes they find worthy, rather than the usual cringeworthy 'yeah/nah' interviews about crap.

Congratulations Adam Goodes, Champion, Legend and Gentleman.

His supposed horrific onfield behaviour is incredibly minor not just in the context of football history but even compared to his contemporaries. There's been 50 blokes in the last 5 years who have done worse things than Goodes on the field.

I don't even think Barry Hall got this much hate.

Because the child called him an ape. King Kong is about an ape. He connected the dots and saw an opportunity to crack a joke to make light of the incident. It was a stupid decision. It doesn't make him a racist.
If it wasn't racist, it was mindblowingly, breathtakingly, awe-inspiringly, jaw-droppingly, toe-curlingly, cringeworthyly, forehead-slappingly stupid.

Maybe it was just racist.
