U missed the point. Was talking about the dance, Goodes standing in Aus

No, I get the point, as I understand it, the point was that by showing the dance Goodes was showing pride in his cultural background, which would bring a sense of pride to some Aboriginal communities (there are difference values across the Aboriginal community)

And that's the thing - Winmar, that was raw and authentic, passionate and sincere; and it was a massive statement at the time.

This looks like a pre medidated, contrived action from a player desperately trying to stay relevant; and leverage it into a career after footy.

I didn't really like the way he called out the young girl, but in the heat of the moment, it was understandable.

This wasn't.
But you don't really know that-maybe Winmar planned it? Maybe Goodes didn't do something pre-meditated.
Lots of people have made up their minds, so it doesn't matter what he does. He will be judged.
Goodes is the one out there on the field copping all manner of stuff each week. It is easy to yell out from the crowd, and easy to post on BF. He has guts even if you don't like how he goes about it.

I find it offensive that the media is desperate to paint the booing of a player as race related.

Players have been getting booed for ever and a day.

I used to admire him as an athlete but the last 3 to 5 years he has become a stager, dirty and an on field whinger. I can see why some fans decide to boo him.

Milne copped far worse.
I get why they boo him. Would be cool to separate the on field stuff from his activism tho

Hawthorn flog Pavlovian response to red and white.

How fen predictable

Nope....AOTY....AFL LOBBY.

CARO, ROBBO, WILSON, CONNOLLY....AFL MEMO LOBBY.

The AFL have caused this via their favorable treatment of this boy....It's about to blow up in their faces as the real Footy community comes down hard.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else read "The Runner" by Cynthia Voight? The main character in that book IS very much a racist and has his beliefs challenged. It's set back around the Vietnam War though.

The annoying thing is I can't get a hold of the previous book in the series, "Come a-Stranger" (I've read all the books in the Tillerman Cycle except that one!) which is from the perspective of a young black girl.

Makes you think a little.

Perfect. So can we agree that many in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community are pretty aware that they are well represented in footy?

Steve Johnson and Joel Selwood are two players from the Cats who get booed consistently. Why are boos aimed towards Goodes always deemed to be racially motivated when he is the only indigenous player who gets booed consistently? Guy comes across as a massive attention seeking flog.
He's the Hertier Lamumba of Indigenous players or at least trying to be it's very difficult to be as much of a flog as Ol' Tier.

So are we saying it would have been ok if he did the celebration towards the Sydney cheer squad?
Not sure why people be so offended about this.

He should have done it to an opposition player. Now that would have been fun to watch. Casboult would have fallen over and rolled up in the foetal position.

Even Yarran was laughing at the flog.

Cool. So numbers aren't needed. Goals aren't needed. It's actually fair to say that very little can be done on the footy field that hasn't been seen by IA communities. However Goodes just did something never seen. Good on him.

And there it is. People hate Goodes because he doesn't stay in his box like a good little boy the way the majority want him to. They want him to be seen and not heard.
Please. If he had anything good to say people would agree but he only speaks about himself.

Ahh yes - the "I boo him because of his acts on the football field" excuse, whilst it may be legitimate reason for a small minority who boo him purely because of that, it is largely a convenient excuse/justification for others sadly.

Ahh and the good ole "I'm not a racist but..."/"I've got friends from other countries". Lovely...

I am an equal opportunity booer, Goodes is no angle on the ground. He's not winning any fans over with the way he plays the game, he's losing the support he once had with the way he conducts himself. I used to love Goodes and Sydney in general, I was super happy to see them win the flag in 05 and the chase for back to back in 06. But in the late 2000's he changed the way he played the game and that really turned me off him.

I boo Essendon because of what they have done to the league
As I said on the Hawthorn board I boo Franklin becasue of the way he left us, McVeigh because the guy steals matches from us :p and the rest of Sydney due to the COLA controversy.
I boo Chris Judd because like Goodes he is a dirty player and an umpires pet
I boo L.Thomas because he dives
I boo Selwood because he ducks
I boo Suckling when he fluffs up a regulation kick :p
