IMO it will be other players trade value that will frame what Essendon can legitimately request for Adam Saad.

Clearly players like Jeremy Cameron, Treloar, Crouch, Dunkley & Ben Brown would be more valuable than Saad.. Saad is probably grouped with someone like Nathan Broad who has shown his worth in 3 premierships, and Tigers would probably expect a late 2nd round pick for Broad.

There's a spot there for him with Simpson retiring, they're very similar footballers IMO.

Why wouldn't we want him?

Id say that Simpson already has ample players waiting to replace him. You got Newman/Plowman/SPS/Docherty/Williamson/Polson competing for the 4 spots and then you got a guy like Lochie O'Brien/Newnes who could fll in

Meanwhile in a area like HF, you have a midfielder like Gibbons running around out of position and a 33 year old in Eddie Betts as your key small forward.

You are upgrading in 1 area while leaving others completly empty. It makes no sense

All are part of the defensive setup but none are particularly similar in style to Simpson.

Polson would be the closest there but we're not passing up the opportunity to bring in Saad because we have Cam Polson.

Stylistically I can't think of too many players who are as similar to Simpson as Saad is.

It's a good fit.

We need more quality just about all over the park. Half back included, half forward included, small forward too.

The player movement period hasn't even started yet, so I'm not sure how anyone could say we're leaving an area of the field completely empty at this stage.

Let's wait and see what happens.

We can trade in Caldwell without the Saad deal going ahead at all, so don't worry about us for that. The Dunkley deal will likely not get done unless we get something substantial from the Saad trade so trading him early for unders for the sake of trading him also doesn't help us.

It seems Carlton fans are obsessed with staying in the first round and Essendon will have an end first round pick coming back for Joe. Saad + that pick for 7 and a later pick may just be the best deal you get him for. Hopefully Carlton take the early trade offered to them before the JoeD pick goes to GWS for Caldwell.
We trade 7+27 for 13+18+34, then you can either take pick 18 or we walk away and use it in the ND to pick him up. Also 7 for 16+17 would do the same.

Essendon holds no power at all if we get this trade done, you accept what we offer or you get nothing.

Interesting Sam Edmund, carlton supporter, suggests you don't pay pick 7 for a halfback flanker.

Given, JUH is a lock for an early bid in the draft and possibilities of Braeden Campbell getting an early bid before 7 and/or Joe Daniher triggering a band one compo, leaves that pick at 8, at least and a possibility for it to be pick 10.

carlton Pick 10 2017 draft = Lochie O'Brien, halfback flanker

Polson is in the gun for delisting, LOB not far off it. Theyre young and could develop further but they arent walk up starts ideally. Plowman and Doc arent competing for a spot. SPS belongs in the midfield, maybe just a bit forward of centre. Williamson is seen more of a winger, and Newman is solid. Saad is a walk up start.

Our half forward line was greatly improved with Jack Martin. And we are actively looking for a genuine small forward. Saad is available. Our side genuinely lacks pace and we need it off halfback as well.

He is a walk up start, but it doesnt mean you should be giving him a 5 year contract and a absurd draft pick. He is just not a game changing move which is what I want when im in the position you are in for this trade. He is a upgrade as opposed to a true necessity

Id rather a player to compete at HB and a top liner at FP then a top HB and a speculative pick at FP

IMO you would have been much better off getting De Goey then Saad. A no brainer for me as far as list makeup goes

I mean, pretty much every Essendon poster has said that IF you can split your first round selection with Geelong or Brisbane, that a single later first round selection would get it done. So I'm not sure you're exactly bringing anything new here.

He was drafted as a wing. At that time they were all the rage but less so now.

Were not offering an absurd draft pick. Bringing him in allows the club to 1) upgrade a position to elite 2) allow Petrevski-Seton to play middle/forward to become an impact player. His quality of disposal is also despite needed in the middle.

Every trade suggestion ive seen so far from anyone at Essendon has been absurd

He's just underscoring that he wants Carlton to be hard to deal with. For them its not even about winning trade deals any more, just about making this process as difficult as possible. We must accept what they offer, no other offers will be considered etc. etc. Just juvenile shit.

So really, all this Dodoro trolling is actually jealousy? Makes sense. SOS himself is a big Dodoro fan.

Adam Cooney has had a few too many head knocks!!
Idiot

He’s a winger, played midfield as a draft prospect, elite runner.
Don’t pretend to know stuff that you don’t!
