Interesting Sam Edmund, carlton supporter, suggests you don't pay pick 7 for a halfback flanker.

Given, JUH is a lock for an early bid in the draft and possibilities of Braeden Campbell getting an early bid before 7 and/or Joe Daniher triggering a band one compo, leaves that pick at 8, at least and a possibility for it to be pick 10.

carlton Pick 10 2017 draft = Lochie O'Brien, halfback flanker

No one has ever paid a top 10 pick for a half back flanker in a trade. I don’t see why this situation would be any different, especially considering his contract and how the Bombers have handled his departure in the media.

Errr ... he was drafted as a wingman, where he played for Vic Country. That's where he plays in seconds and has mostly played in seniors.

carlton paid pick 13 for Mitch McGovern. Pick 7 seems fair for Saad.

Edited: Sorry carltons. Thought it was Pick 11. :thumbsu:

Source? 😂

He was drafted as a wing. At that time they were all the rage but less so now.

Lochie O’Brien was one of the highest regarded players coming into the 2017 season with O’Brien’s left foot one of the best in the draft crop. His ability to hit-up forwards or players leading towards him as he strolls down the wing is impressive, and he has predominantly played as a half-back flanker with some games on the wing and through the midfield. He still has a number of areas to work on as with left footers, his non-preferred right foot can be an area of concern and his kicking under pressure is still a work in progress. On the outside, his footskills and spread are really good and he has the football smarts to make the right decisions.

Giddy Up!!

IMO you would have been much better off getting De Goey then Saad. A no brainer for me as far as list makeup goes

JDG seems poised to sign a 2 year deal with the Pies after shopping himself around, that should tell everyone plenty.

It's not the place for that discussion, but I'm not at all unhappy we seem to be steering clear.

No we didn't.

I mean, pretty much every Essendon poster has said that IF you can split your first round selection with Geelong or Brisbane, that a single later first round selection would get it done. So I'm not sure you're exactly bringing anything new here.
Yet the Poster I quoted suggested giving you 7 and another pick for 20+ Saad was the best we could do.

Quite clearly both of those trades I suggested would be a better result for us and therefore relevant to the discussion we were having.

FWIW 90% of you Essendon supporters are still clinging to you have to give us pick 7, only 10% of you are realist enough to accept a late 1st.

Well Carlton don't actually have a late first, so people are obviously coming up with scenarios based around the selections they actually have.

It all assumes Carlton can trade 7 with Geelong or Brisbane for 2 x firsts.

I can see why people aren't just taking it as gospel that Carlton will have a late first available.

27 + future 2nd would then be the option not 7, values him at pick 11 which is well overs.

And what a disaster that draft choice has turned out to be, you are actually highlighting why you SHOULDN'T use a 1st round pick on a HBF let alone pick 7.

I stand corrected. Pick 13 it was.

It wasn't that either. It was pick 26 and 28 + McAdam with a third rounder back.

From the same website. The bloke was drafted as a mid. You don't know what you're talking about.

Pick 10: Carlton – Lochie O’BRIEN

Outside Midfielder
(Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country)
18/09/1999 | 184.0cm | 77.4kg

Scouting notes: Classy outside midfielder who is likened to former Roo and Saint Nick Dal Santo
