Not more valuable to collingwood though. Their first next year goes to daicos anyway. It’s 16 this year for saad
Which is fair

It would be to other clubs, which is what will determine the picks value on the trade table.

If we're trading with Collingwood, most likely outcome is pick 8 for 16 and a second rounder. This means the Pies can ensure their first round pick comes in before a bid on Reef McInnes.

I'd imagine a deal involving their future first will be separate altogether.

Perhaps. I just think Stephenson is unlikely and we are keen on another first next year

How about
8 for next year’s first and this year’s second.
Send our second and theirs to Essendon for saad

Doesn't read like that at all imo, but I didn't come here to engage in a meta-discussion.

You've basically just said that Essendon wouldn't deal on what most reasonable posters accept as Saad's value.

That while Carlton possess pick 8, that's what Essendon will ultimately want.

I'm just pointing out why some might say the expectation of pick 8 for a player like Saad is laughable. A second rounder rounder coming back is neither here nor there to such a comment given the stated incongruence of not being willing to accept fair value.

I haven't said anywhere that it would be a straight swap. In fact you've selectively quoted me:

Most reasonable Essendon and Carlton supporters agree that the price is about a late first round pick. That’s more than 23, and less than 8.

Given that Carlton don’t have a late first round pick and can’t seem to split pick 8, most of us suspect it will be 8 for Saad + something.

How is that an Essendon tax?

For some reason you only picked out the first sentence to respond to?

He’s on the table. Whether anyone wants him who knows. If he stays I hope it’s the kick in the backside he needs because he has the talent

It will be fantastic for my stress levels if he goes.

He just seems SO far off a professional footballer its sad. Can't help but think the injury issues are due to his ongoing fitness issues.

“It’s understood the Blues are prepared to offer pick 7 to bring Saad to Princes Park.”

There is a few ways to interpret this. The most likely one is Carlton are prepared to put 7 on the table but not a straight swap. Saad packaged with a later pick is what's most likely to occur.

Btw Carlton can't play it to hard because the last thing Saad wants is to enter another "Essendon" (sorry dons fans, it is what it is).

What I predict to happen is Carlton will put a good deal straight on the table to show Saads camp that they are being fair. If Essendon don't respond with something reasonable Carlton will just walk away for a little bit. They will Come back in the last days with something slightly better and say take it or leave it.
This is playing out exactly how I expected.

Haha Dodoro must read BF and feels 'challenged' by Blues supporters that a straight swap of 8 for Saad wont happen.. he's a cheeky ****er.. lol

Waiting for Dodo to somehow re-sign Shaun McKernan and tell the Saints and Demons he is worth a 1st rounder now.

Bloke is a full time idiot.

If Adam Saad is worth pick 8, what value does that put on Rory Laird. Laird is 2 x AA, club B&F, and has shown he can play high level in the midfield as well. A higher level player than Saad.
If Saad is pick 8, then Laird must be a top 5 pick. A top 5 pick for Laird is overs, and pick 8 for Saad is well overs.

Saad isn’t worth 8. That’s just the pick we have and the pick the Bombers media brigade have ran with.

I’d hope we do our due diligence to find a pick in the mid-late teens. Looking like a hard task now.

They just said on Trade Radio that Saad isn't worth pick 8 and that Carlton have to pay pick 8 because they have no other options. He's worth a late first.

They needed to trade pick 8 for two late first rounders, then get Saad to nominate the club.

Apparently no one is willing to trade up for pick 8.

Just posted something similar on the Carlton thread, probably does make sense if other clubs are seeing it as just facilitating other trade negotiations.

It shouldn't prevent Carlton though making other trades in their own right if it involves players or possibly future picks. For example, trading pick 8 to Woods for 16 and Stephenson shouldn't be regarded as just a deal in order to facilitate other trades.
