I just reckon he’ll walk at the bye if we go in at 1-11. Every chance we get thrashed in our next 5 games, to go along with the previous 3, that’s 2 months of non competitive football with almost a full squad. That’s not acceptable for any club, let alone a club like ours who doesn’t take failure all that well.

The club has been extremely naive about where the list was at. The signs were showing last season it was on it's way down. 3 or 4 complete noncompetitive efforts against the likes of Sydney, Geelong, Bulldogs and a loss to North. The non scores of over 100 since mid last season and of course the losing streak and now home losing streak.

Next two weeks will be thrashings again, I just can't see Simmo or any coach keeping his job with 10 weeks of thrashings. Perfect time with 5 or 6 rounds left to see what Schofield can do and then see if he has what it takes for next year. Otherwise Jaymie Graham would be a shue in.

For those wanting to install someone (presumably Schofield) as a caretaker, has that actually paid off for anyone since Sydney with Paul Roos 20 years ago?

Struggling to think of anyone since then that’s done the caretaker role, got the job and hasn’t ended up back in the unemployment queue within a couple of years - Teague, Shaw (albeit with extenuating circumstances), Primus …

Not sure why that matters. Simmo even if he starts the rebuild which is likely he won't be there to finish it in my view.
I would be ringing Clarkson and if he has no interest then you just employ schofield as the new head coach. Doesn't need to be caretaker.

My gut feeling is we will see it out with Simmo and it will be a painful to watch a good guy like him walk the green mile.

Why not get to the end of the year and see who’s the best man for the job - whether that’s Simpson, Schofield or someone else - to take the club forward?

Recent history with caretakers suggests they rarely get the job full-time, and when they do it doesn’t work out. So putting Schofield in the chair to audition seems pretty pointless.

Schofield has access to the same players as Simmo. If he's steering the midfield or stoppages I don't think that's a glowing endorsement so far. Any excuses created for him around team availability or adaptability to the new game plan must also be afforded to Simmo.

No matter which way you cut it we've been dealt a shit sandwich. That doesn't always mean we need sweeping changes to management, list and coaches. I'd argue the list changes are about to take care of themselves and we've already gone about coaching changes so we need to see what we've now got.

Pushing the coach out the door now would be a very reactionary, minnow club move.

I agree it will probably be Simmo, but my approach is different. This is his first coaching gig and i am hoping he will rise to the challenge of his first ever rebuild. He has, after all, taken us to two G.F's. Lets give the guy some support.

I think that is what we will do.

Far too sensible for my liking....

With another Covid-wracked side heading to the Gabba to play Brisbane who are flying, every chance it’s a second 100-point loss.

Then we’ve got the undefeated defending premiers the following week.

If your criteria is “three thrashings in a row and Simpson has to go”, then I think you’ve pretty much decided already.

My decision was made last season. Love me or like me, Im confident it will be proven to be correct

Because Simpson is not the best man for the job. Not now, not at the end of the season, not next year. He’s lost the players. This is very similar to Mark Neeld at Melbourne. The longer it plays out the longer it will take to reverse. Not saying a caretaker is the solution. But anything new or different, anything that motivates and anything that puts pressure to perform or risk getting dropped or chopped is a good thing. At a minimum there’s no favourite s as there is now, and there will some change to the game plan

Disagree, the young players were playing for him earlier in the season.
Once the senior players came in, The rut started.

Yep- the narrative change has been shocking and shows the club has had the rug pulled out from under. First few weeks were positive and focusing on having a crack. They would have believed that getting close to the best 22 back would see them be competitive (as would most people), but clearly had no appreciation of how off the mark our fitness is. Rushing all the players back who are unfit has upset the entire team balance and destroyed everyone's confidence. It has been an absolute disaster.

Now they seem to have embraced the idea that we're shit and are rebuilding. Makes you wonder what could have happened if they had kept the young guys in and brought the senior players in slowly once they'd gathered match fitness in the WAFL.

....and doing this knowing the outcome already. It's boggling. I'm boggled.

Keep backing in the troops

Keep assuming that anyone that criticises you must be taking a diametrically opposed view to you. I’m sure that approach will pay off one day and you’ll get that promotion to lead shoveler at the elephant enclosure.

So drop a couple of seniors this week (Petrol in for Ryan for starters) and see if the entire team attitude changes. Simpson has proven incapable of making big calls for the past 4 seasons

Why does everyone think that Simpson holds all the power on decisions? They have M.C people and advice from the other coaches. Its a collective (pun intended)
decision from many people who takes the field and who does not.

Simpson and pod cast fan boys are shrinking on this site like the Eagles %. I’m sure you’re noticing. But look for a guy that has never kicked a football I respect your enthusiasm and repetition of posting, but your lack of football knowledge and natural ability is showing out. Don’t let your reputation sink like Simpson, he’s not the messiah, and nor are you

I reckon the club will just stick with Simmo as to not pay him out early.

No change to anythung til 2024

I think so too.

My concern is few aspects. The big two for me are;

1. What sort of off field support & assistance is he getting in S & C and medical & strategic analysis & oppo planning. Without good support in these areas he is doomed to not succeed.
2. He is sounding worn down - as Matthew Lloyd identified in a Foxsports article, he’s starting to look and sound like Woosha at the of his reign. Worn out and washed up.

Whether he goes on or not will between club and him but I’m not convinced the players are ‘in’ nor am I convinced the club are ‘on’ at the moment. Their mental fortitude is being tested at the moment and I’m not liking what I’m seeing from the stands.
