The main talking point from his book however, concerns the Adelaide Crows camp in 2018. Later that season, the two directors who had facilitated the camp conducted a press conference at the MCG. “We now consider the matter closed,” one of them said. But it was never going to go away. Reading Betts’s recollections of the mind training, one is struck by how utterly demented it was – how pointless, how infantile.

It was the complete antithesis of what Richmond, West Coast and Collingwood were doing during that period. At Adelaide, they practised their facial expressions as they ran through the banner. They’d scream “**** you!” at one another, thrusting their groins and maintaining eye contact. And then there was the Power Stance – chest out, arms straight, fists clenched. They looked like idiots. It was straight from the sandpit. The Richmond players, who were lined up opposite, were laughing at them. They eschewed all the bullshit, kept their cool as the Crows jumped to an early lead, and gradually ground them to dust.

But yeah, lets get Pyke :drunk:

It really depends on his ability to learn and grow. Complete guesswork but I would think going from one of the worst "culture" building experiments in recent history to a club that has maintained a fantastic culture over a very lengthy period, may give him some real life tools to utilise in future coaching roles.
Going to Sydney was actually the best possible move for him after that episode.

I've heard this 'Learn and grow' stuff regarding Pyke numerous times.

How do we know that our current premiership coach is incapable of that?
Apologies, I wasn't suggesting he isn't, just that I don't think Pyke should be written off for future possible head coach roles.

Sorry, wasn't necessarily suggesting you were but the narrative that Pyke would've learnt from his mistakes has been pushed pretty hard this year as a justification for giving Simmo the boot and replacing him with Pyke.

me sharpening the pitchforks if we lose to the crows in JK's farewell match.

I can’t for the life of me understand how any professional athlete thst operates in an aerobic sport could turn up or even be close to being unfit.
Yet many are at the Eagles?
Complacent and satisfied with a premiership and the accolades and bj's that go with it.

My question is:

Why hasn't the coach recognised this and found a way to stop it happening? I would like to send our team to that thing the Crows went to. It won't get them to play any good but at least you can make them feel shit about it.

Jarrad Schofield doesn’t seem to think so, and he doesn’t strike me as someone that’d tolerate low standards.

Collingwood may or may not win tonight but I cannot see any possible way that Simmo could get his group to change how Mcrea has at Collingwood. They play as if their actual life depends on it.
Forget This year as much has gone wrong, but do others believe Simmo can deliver such a massive change to our group? i highly doubt but that is what must happen. Every player on our list must hit next year as if it’s their first season at the club and every single element in their life is second to their job. Family of course are naturally a priority.

Our team is fat, slow, unfit and as a consequence is injury prone. Under Simpson we've devolved into a shit, convoluted style that doesn't value contested footy or full field defence. Easily the worst season in our history and still we won't make a call on the central reason why.

The club was always going to respond and of course it won’t agree. But it’s pretty obvious we are not a fit group and miles off AFL pace. Standard response from any club.

He was hardly going to say yeah we need a tent maker for NIc Nats jumper or its an optical illusion that 75% of the side have guts hanging over the belt line… perception is reality definitely applies to our group however….

So which Collingwood assistant is responsible for this run?
Come on Migs, if we just sack Simpson we too can enjoy a bounce back born from the softest fixture in footy and a once in a generation run of single kick victories the likes of which the V/AFL have never had on record.

Thank god they sacked Buckley. I mean, name the last time the Eagles stuck with a long term coach on a last placed team and turned them into top four prelim finallists?
