Why wouldn’t you play Greg Clarke today instead of Zac Langdon ?
Our midfield is pretty much same week in and week out.
Culley did well in there when given a run.
We are in rebuild mode and Shuey ,Redden & Kelly get beaten every single week

Lot's of players play injured all the time. McGovern should have not played in the 2018 gf if that's what you think. Gaff I'm sure would not have played much this year if the Eagles didn't have the year from hell with Covid and serious injuries.
Unless he has a games played target in his contract he should definitely not be playing this time of the year when there is nothing on the line.

GERARD AND ROBBO confirmed on AFL360 that simmo has 3 MORE years to run on his contract.

2023, 2024 AND 2025.

Robbo got this info from nesbitt himself.
Oh wow if true the lunatics are truly running the asylum here folks.

So what if we go 0-7 to start next season we can't sack the guy because it will cost us in excess of 2 million?

That’s been confirmed for about a month now, sadly.

Extended him, didn’t tell anyone, it came out a year later with an incorrect figure and they just rolled with it. Consensus was 2024, they were happy to let members and public think that, but have since confirmed yes it’s 2025.

Get AFL to assist to pay him out like they do for many other clubs

We get by far the least AFL assistance and would be on our own on this.

As we should be, AFL should stop bailing out clubs that can’t run themselves, but yeah there’s zero chance of the AFL stepping in on anything West Coast (unless we won a bunch of flags in a row, which they’d immediately use to change some soft cap penalties no doubt).

I like that the contract extension was first raised weeks ago by Hagdorn of all people, and confirmed soon after in other sections of the WA media….

And VFL360 are only just now getting around to reporting it despite having Simpson on 2 weeks ago to talk about how great Jamie Elliot’s after the siren goal was

Doesn’t necessarily matter how long he’s contracted for, depending on what the contract says about termination. It could cap any payout at 12 months’ salary for all we know.

But the fact they did it sneakily and are the only club that hasn’t publicly announced/confirmed their current coach’s tenure stinks.

And I’m pretty sure he’s also the longest-tenured coach, that is, no other coach is contracted beyond 2024. Which seems foolish. He’s not Norm Smith, why did we give him a five year deal that seemingly no other coach in the league is getting?

Maybe lower per year cost so we could deal with the soft cap?

I think this is exactly right. Wouldn't surprise me if they went to him last year and he agreed to lower the annual pay for another year extension to his contract, allowing us to get the new assistant coaches in.

It's still reckless. The tenure is too long. By the end of 2025, he will have been our senior coach for 12 seasons.

Opinions are like ... well you know the rest.
Yep he’s one of Will Schofield’s opinions.

Though he was just one of a dozen coaches among 40 players, Schofield was full of praise for Mitchell’s influence, declaring he was the best assistant he played under in 14 years of AFL football.

“Put it this way, we wouldn’t have won in 2018 without Sam Mitchell as an assistant coach,” Schofield said to foxfooty.com.au on Wednesday.

“If you asked any player who was at West Coast in 2018 they would speak very highly of Sam Mitchell. He’s highly intelligent with a high footy IQ. He’s a great educator who can teach young and senior players. He’s a direct communicator.

Can’t believe no one’s brought that quote up before.

Like last month. Or in April.

Here’s a quote from one of our premiership players.

I look forward to seeing it again next week.

its crazy that Simmo told the playing group it was okay if they lost because they 'had a second chance' (referring to finishing top 4).

It’s crazy alright

Crazy that anyone would believe that an AFL coach would tell his playing group it was okay if they lost a final
