We have a real late 90s/early 2000s vibe at the moment.

The other arguement is that the list was so poor that XON was the best option. That's the point.
It doesn't take much to conclude that using a player like O'Neill to mark Dangerfield one-on-one at stoppages is a terrible mismatch and would provide this outcome.
And yet it still happened.
Don't recon it makes FA diff myself, he's been away a long time.
Most premiership coaches didn’t play at the club they won a flag with. Working backwards :
C Scott - No
Goodwin - No
Hardwick - No
Simpson - No
Beveridge - Yes (Played 31/118 games at Footscray)
Clarkson - No
Longmire - No
Malthouse (Collingwood) - No
Thompson- No
Worsfold - Yes
Roos - Yes
Williams - Sort of (Played for Port in SANFL)
Matthews (Brisbane) - No
Sheedy - No
Pagan - Yes
Blight - No
Parkin - No
Malthouse (West Coast )- No
Joyce - Yes
Matthews (Collingwood)- No
Jeans - No
Walls - Yes
Only six premiership coaches (out of 20) that had any involvement as a player at their clubs prior to coaching them. Two of them (Beveridge and Joyce) didn’t have any significant or lasting time as players
It also highlights how impressive Leigh Matthews is - often considered a GOAT player for Hawthorn, but his four flags as coach was with Brisbane and Collingwood.
Also thanks for reminding me that somehow Robert Walls is a premiership coach.
I am a fan of Leigh. A person working within the Lions at the time told me that Leigh was technically a very poor coach, no plans, poor links to S&C etc. Goes to show what strong leaders can do, and importantly there is more to coaching then the text book stuff. (Good list and an absolutely brilliant onfield leader as well)It also highlights how impressive Leigh Matthews is - often considered a GOAT player for Hawthorn, but his four flags as coach was with Brisbane and Collingwood.

With Carlton.
Wonder how he managed that.
He was one of the filthiest players to ever don a jumper.I am a fan of Leigh. Thought you'd be happy. Like, if you don't think he's the man, that's another three years of top 5 draft picks (assuming we don't trade them away) before someone you might rate takes over a young list packed with talent.'It's the bigger picture': Why Simmo may not see out Eagles' rebuild
Adam Simpson sat down with Nathan Schmook to discuss how the Eagles are placed in 2023www.afl.com.au
Pretty stock standard interview until he decided to twist the knife by stating has three years left on his contract…. Still a baffling decision
3 years left? This is the first we would have heard about that, surely?
I know we love to keep things hush hush at West Coast, but this cloak and daggers, smoke and mirrors nonsense, particularly regarding the contract of our senior coach, is a bit ridiculous
I'd somehow gotten the dates confused and thought it was end of next year that it expired. The club didn’t announce his contract extension when it was made and even when it did became apparent one was given, it was erroneously stated as being until the end of 2024 when in fact it was actually 2025
Really poor from the club
But it has been public knowledge for some time now

Out done yourself....Simpson was a really good coach but the worst thing that happened to him was becoming successful and winning the flag..

Nawwww.. He will just whinge and bitch about the new guy because, well....that's just what he does.Thought you'd be happy. Simpson was a really good coach but the worst thing that happened to him was becoming successful and winning the flag.. now he is nothing more than a politician just sprouting out party buzzwords like synergy at every chance trying to deflect from his own
We played finals in 2019 and 20 after our Granny win. 9th in 2021 and 2022 was an abomination. Any team would be happy with that. You just can't win a GF every year and for a team that has to travel every second week long haul , nearly impossible. Why?? Has he shown anywhere near the same fire or even enthusiasm for the job since he won one..
Winning one flag is hard.. no doubt.. but he is now in a world of hurt that he has contributed to because he refuses to change..
on exposed form we have the same game plan with the same credit guys being walk up starts.
Direct comparison is Hardwick. He is a successful coach who could butter up, Clarkson the same, even Longmire who won a flag has gotten his team back to grand finals..
Now play the man if you like but how about you try
Yes,,,,,,,,,,Silly us.Everyone knows the first premiership doesn’t count.
