So basically in your mind no one is capable, only Simmo.
Assistants only implement what the senior coach wants.

In my mind there’s no point making a change mid-season when the best candidates are all working for other teams.

I think Paul Roos is the only coach this century to have taken over as a caretaker and end up a premiership coach.

Yes but who do you have in mind to replace him as imo therein lies the problem - at the moment anyway. Also it’s not usually our style to sack a coach halfway through the season - even Ken Judge was allowed to see out the year before he was finally sacked. Not really sure what the solution is just right now.
Correct, we are not a ruthless club. We are a very conservative club. Which is why our time at the top is always very brief. It’s the clubs culture to be nice not ruthless.

Any club going through a rebuild that takes 7 years is screwed beyond comprehension.

5 years ago, Collingwood missed a Premiership by a single kick. Today they are top of the ladder and competing again... and we are the bottom of the ladder and apparently still 5 more years away.
Pies are the most ready made and prime of their contention period list in footy. Loads of 30+ players, loads of 150+ gamers, they had one shit year to the tune of 17th and picked up a generational F/S talent for free, but they haven’t implemented any sort of rebuild.

They’re still competing from the 2018 squad, they’re not at any stage of any sort of rebuild.

Nisbett has to go first, any new person that comes in will be forced to fall in line under Nisbett. Club needs new leadership starting from the top and then changes can be made without the boys club mentality. I think that will be the start of real change as all the mates that have comfortabley been there for years will get moved on. New faces, new standards, new ideas
A shame Vozzo isn’t still around to replace Trev but I think that was part of the problem reading between the lines as he was probably the next CEO in waiting - however he got impatient as Trev wouldn’t budge🤔.

Probably because they had players on the way up and we had players on the way down.

Didn't seem like that when Buckley was sacked. They royally ****ed up their salary cap, had to offload Treloar and later Grundy, plus screwed up with Beams... they were floundering.

Macrae came in, and they started playing like superstars.

Is our list the problem?

Whatever you think about the coach our list is beyond shit

Moving Simmo on and replacing him with Schofield is fine. Schofield is a very hard task master and no one would escape scrutiny with him. Keeping Simmo on is just going through the motions. It achieves nothing at all. In fact it can really be damaging to our young players. Change is needed now. Not for wins but for the sake of the club and it’s just starting it’s next phase.
Well that’s my opinion anyway.

What an odd comment.

We’re not ruthless enough, that’s why we haven’t won a threepeat.

Yes

One thing you can bet on in the AFL, when the Eagles win a flag they will drop away the following year. Put your house on it.

How many clubs could you say that about? Pretty much all of them?

Even Geelong haven’t won back to back flags.

Problem solved, we just need Schofield to take over tomorrow and throw some Gatorade bottles and yell at everyone.

That’ll go down well when we keep getting thrashed week after week because the list is still shit and the fitness staff still can’t keep anyone on the park.

Getting a drill sergeant in will solve everything.

If by dropping away, you mean still playing finals (we have backed up every premiership with finals the following season), then sure.

It’s almost as if travelling across the country every second week doesn’t matter 🙄

Honestly, I would be staggered if we were to ever win back to back flags. Look at how hard it it is for a Non Victorian side to even win one. And for us, doubly so, given our location etc. If that sounds “weak” or defeatist then so be it, but it is reality.

Are you ok?

After we won the Grannie we thought we could go again.
We couldn't and we were not insightful enough to start the rebuild then. We had a each way bet and lost.

Maybe they just need a big hug!

What they need is experienced support on the ground that isn't injured 3/4 of the time.
What the team needs is kids actually developing in our seconds and not being taught by ammos because there is no experience on the ground.

Simmo can't fix the WAFL
Simmo can't fix the experience on game day bit without fit players.

In addition we need talented youth (which we have started bringing in) but still need more to come in.
That's on recruitment.

Effort to a degree is within the coaches purview but when the first two issues are persistent and contributing to demoralizing losses regularly it'd be hard for anyone to keep the young kids up on a week to week basis.

Simpson is on a hiding to nothing and so is the club. If they sack Simpson the next coach has literally no chance of lasting more than 2 to 3 years because the chances of winning more than 10 games in this timeframe is unlikely with the list in its current state.

If they keep Simpson nothing will change either more floggings and more heat from the media and supporters.

It's a no win situation whichever way they decide to go thanks to the club needlessly signing Simmo to a long term extension.

The list manager, recruiting and player development department have a lot to answer for. The players aged between 20 and 27 must be the worst of any playing list in the comp by some margin.

The pain is real and won't get any better any time soon. Years of pain await but hopefully during this time the club can change for the better get some new blood in to run the club and slowly build the right foundations to enable sustained success in the future

I bet the media/communications staff and Nisbett are still in the office crafting the response statement. It would be a very hard statement to write.

Very, very hard to have any confidence in a bunch of people (including those on the Board) who thought everything was fine, it was all just Covid related issues last year and we were going to make the 8 this year, who thought those disagreeing with them were bed wetting reactionary hysterics, and they wouldn't even allow the word rebuild to used to by anybody at the club until after Round 3 this year.

I see we’re back on the “we’ve never actually been good” cycle of the chicken little bullshit.

No club, Geelong aside, has been as consistently good as the Eagles since we came to be. We had our worst ever loss today so I’m not expecting sunshine and rainbows but if you could all stop making shit up for the sake of posting through it that would be great.
