Great take on 2018 - 2023 in The Aus:

Collingwood had a fall guy and then a fall.
'Two years ago, list manager Ned Guy resigned after a salary cap crisis was short-circuited by a fire sale of players.

Adam Treloar, Jaidyn Stephenson, Tom Phillips and Atu Bosenavulagi were shown the door in a bombshell 2020 trade period, while the club also farewelled retirees Dayne Beams, Ben Reid, Travis Varcoe, Tom Langdon, Levi Greenwood and Chris Mayne in 2020-21.

The Magpies made hard calls in 2020 and crashed to 17th in 2021. They bounced to third in 2022 and are ladder-leaders in 2023.'

West Coast – who pipped the Pies for the 2018 premiership – went all-in on both fronts. The Eagles backed in their players and backed in the large recruiting team who had picked them.

Now, they look light years away from the premiership race.'

Step right up those fans here who acclaimed the 2018 side the greatest Eagles side EVER.

'The Magpies’ fire sale was preceded by their one-point elimination final win against West Coast in 2020. Perhaps the Eagles lost that clash and still felt they were good enough.

Another Pies-Eagles clash — alongside the 2018 and 2020 finals — also marked a milestone in their contrasting trajectories.'

The admin/recruiting issues get a similar going over in the article.

West Coast 1
Collingwood 0

Just saying.

1. They picked up a pair of Daicaii as FS
2. De Goey, Crispy Duck, Moore, Maynard are all guns and were young
3. Pendles and Sidebottom stayed uninjured

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Then you're got a big bold highlight calling people who though 2018 was our best side ever. Not me btw, but hardly a capital crime. It's a little bit floggy.

if you can't look back then there's no point winning flags. A bird in the hand is better than a bird in the bush.

We're bottoming out and getting the cream of the draft for 4 years. This self loathing you're doing is unnecessary.

No self loathing here, just understanding where we've been as a forerunner to starting the build back, e.g the first few years leading up to 05/06 Woosha style, was a great time to be an Eagles fan.

We might be getting the cream but the way we have been going it’s likely to be off milk rather than cream.

No Mate, you are not acknowledging his time is done.
You are screaming from the rafters, go read your own posts to confirm. You are wanting blood over a game of footy.
You have forgotten he is a person with family and young children who are probably reading this. Kids at school making fun of them.
Your obsession is clouding the bigger picture.
Mate, everyone’s got kids, that’s the dumbest reason to keep a coach ever spoken.

Dear god not Dean cox. He doesn't seem to inspire me at all.

If you want to haul and old player and be the boys club then Ben cousins is the man.

There's a perception that ruckman are not smart
Don’t get me wrong I am all here for Benno. Love the boy and all that. BUT I lived 30 years with an addict in my family and a relapse is only one wrong thought away, usually something like “I’ve got a handle on it now, just once…”

Your Simmo obsession is clouding your vision.
When the majority of people want him gone, it’s important to introspectively examine your own POV and make an honest assessment.
Bringing his kids up as a reason not to discuss his coaching on a football forum is pretty poor, a good example of how jaded your opinion is.

Food for thought.

I'd LIKE to see him gone, but I accept the reality that it will cost too much and who'd want to come here?
The cost is clearly the issue, no chance we're going to pay 6 or 7 mill just to sack the coach when we're going to lose for the next couple of years either way.
But I'd be very, very happy to see a clean out of the rest of the club above him and on the list management side.

Anyone notice how quickly and efficiently West Coast shut down the press?

We have never seen this before. Coaches have had results not even half as bad and have been harassed by the media until they get sacked.

This was two days ago.

This was the day before that.

This was the day before that.

As a press shutdown, it was about as efficient and effective as anything else the club’s done this season.

Enjoy Mr pay packet in charge for two more years mate. By extraordinary consequence he might not do any more damage to this club in that time (as extraordinary a concept that is). In the meantime there's a good chance one of the good teams actually gets hold of us this year to the tune of 200+.
I can see that happening if Brisbane feel mean on the day.

I think the recruiting has been good the last 2 years.
It's been ok.
Jury very much still out on Chesser and also Jack Williams. Overlooked Matt Johnson and Hobbs to take Chesser which is looking like a poor move.
Hough and Bazzo look good.
We took Will Collins with our first pick in the MSD in 2021 which was a completely random waste of time.
Ginbey & Hewett look like good picks but we still need to add some genuine ball winners in the middle.
Long was a good pick.
Barnett and Burgiel are still yet to be seen.
Culley and Maric were pretty easy picks to make.
I wouldn't say we've exactly hit it out of the park but it could have been worse.
