My opinion of Simpson hit rock bottom today. Harry Barnett debuts and gets subbed in with around 9 minutes left in the 4th. How would his parents feel?

What does it do to a young blokes confidence knowing that there's 40 odd players on the list, there's only one or two players playing WAFL this week, and our coach thinks so little of you that he gives you token minutes on debut.

My missus is a Collingwood supporter and couldn't believe that was how we treated the kid, especially with how pathetic Darling was again this week, with 6 possessions, 2 marks and 2 tackles.
My observation of Simpson as coach over the past decade is that he is generally reluctant to play young players, with some exceptions such as Ginbey, Hough, Long.

Part of this is that he doesn’t think they are ready physically, up to the standard, and his trust in his experienced players, and he seems to have his favourites.
Often he is correct, the player is not physically, mentally, or game ready. At the same time this attitude can hold young players back and discourage/ deflate them which you are implying with Barnett.
His reluctance to generally play younger players is a factor in causing the present disastrous situation.
The established players get injured and the developing player hasn’t enough experience and trust from the coach to fill the void.
With the present injury disaster he now has no choice, there are barely enough players to field a team so they all have to be played. This is forcing the issue and showing those who can play and those who can’t.

Getting back to Barnett. I don’t think he doesn’t like him or is treating him poorly but is rather protecting him.
There are lots of physical monsters in the ruck in the AFL such as Marshall today, and he doesn’t want him to get killed and injured.
I think his intentions are good, but there is a downside in that it doesn’t give the younger player a chance to show what they’ve got or put any trust in them so perhaps that they get discouraged and their development is stifled.
Bailey Williams is a prime case in point, when Naitanui was around, he was very reluctant to play him, now that he’s had to play Williams he is showing that he is a good player.
XON, might be another case in point. Hasn’t been played or trusted, given responsibility so his development has been ruined. Now he is next to useless, although in reality there may be more there if he was given an extended chance as opposed to being in and out of the side.

He might not be the biggest issue but surely no coach survives this in the long run. Just steer the ship vaguely competently while Ginbey, Hewett, Long, Maric, Culley, Hough and Pick 1 tick along, and then we’ll reassess when the contract’s done.
Id love for simmo to take is to out 5th premiership.

Then on the premiership dias he can proclaim "to all those bigfooty nuffies watching this....you were wrong"

Would Nisbett’s son be employed at any other club?

I expect that’d be considered a conflict of interest since he works at West Coast

Your Simmo obsession is clouding your vision.
When the majority of people want him gone, it’s important to introspectively examine your own POV and make an honest assessment.
Bringing his kids up as a reason not to discuss his coaching on a football forum is pretty poor, a good example of how jaded your opinion is.
Such a shame you have lost your humanity.

Amazing that Nisbett was almost completely silent through arguably the toughest patch we've had in the club's history in recent weeks, leaving the communication up to Simpson and Fitzpatrick. Yet the week after our best showing on-field for as long as anyone can remember, the club releases a video of Nisbett singing everyone's praises, including the fans. Where were you when things weren't going well Trev? It really is just laughable at this point.

Yeah, not sure what the point of that video is other than a knee jerk reaction to all the criticism that Nisbett’s been silent for months. Certainly didn’t say anything we hadn’t already heard.

You have to wonder why that snake has pity his head up now , not after one of the floggings

What the flock was the Trev's message? It was a commentary and recap on Sunday. Glad we pay him a million a year to tell us that.

News from Trevor - we played a load of talented kids on Sunday!! Well knock me over with a jar of magic potion, I am glad our CEO told me that otherwise it might have gone over my head.

News from Trev - the fans have not deserted the players. WE NEVER WILL. It is that big Kent at the top that we want out.

Honestly, I don't think Nis is being gutless here - I think they know he's toxic, so Paul Fitzpatrick is quietly changing the flavour by shelving old mate Nis.

Nis just couldn't help himself Sunday though IMO.

Maybe? But I feel that's far too coherent for this club.

If that's the case, and they intend to keep him around until 2024, they'd be smart to have Trev announce he's retiring end of '24 and that he's helping with the replacement search and helping with transition.

Might take some of the heat out of the air while allowing Nisbett to finish up in an orderly fashion.

Personally, I want him gone tomorrow, but at a minimum they have to be clear he's absolutely going.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

It feels a little self serving to me

Sure, it was a much improved performance but it wasn’t actually a win and it was just one game after a string of very poor performances that had culminated in our worst ever loss

We have yet to see if this improvement is the start of a sustained run of form or an anomaly

Had it come from Fitzpatrick who has fumbled his way through a series of explanations/apologies for our poor form it would have made more sense

If Nisbett was wanting to show he’s still in touch with the sentiment of supporters I think he’s proved the opposite

Can't even bring myself to watch it, there have been very few messages from senior leadership over the past few years that have been worth the time spent reading/watching.
