Lyon was extraordinary. Just pure bewilderment. Couldn’t even get basic facts right like the losing margin from last week 😂

Caroline was ok. Kane… I mean honestly. Appreciate that we still have an “older” group and have had some seniors playing but seriously, to say we haven’t started a rebuild is just ridiculous.

If Haggers is right and Nizzy is the one that's been pushing for Simpspn to get moved on and making the moves in the background to get rid of him (make him the fall guy to save himself). Then I suspect that he's been the one leaking info to Eddie and I'm glad the board has finally stood up to him. If this is the case then surely he can't stay on. Him and Gepp have to go. No more Nepotism, Simpson gets more freedom and we can get the right people in the right positions.

There will be more change with Nizzy going than the removal of Simpson.

100% correct
Hackdorn claimed Barras and number of young players stayed and signed on if Simmo was moved on. Oh and parents also wanted him moved on, he needs to give himself an uppercut

Let's compare 2010 and this year. We finish bottom in 2010 after missing finals for 3 years in a row. We finished bottom this year after missing finals in 2021, 2022. In 2009 Geelong won the premiership. Geelong won last year too. When we finished bottom in 2010, Collingwood won the premiership and they are likely to win this year. In 2010, Kerr had a serious hamstring injury in round 4 and missed the whole year. This year Ryan missed the whole yeaar due to a hamstring injury suffered in round 3. Only one WCE player (Lecras) made the AA team in 2010. This year another WCE forward (Allen) is the sole West Coast player in the initial squad. A player named Harley was a top 3 pick in 2010. This year another Harley will go top 3 in the draft.

Conclusion: History is repeating and we will make the prelim next year just like we did in 2011. Anyway, if I am proved wrong next year then somebody else has to delete their account.

Ok so the guy who has led us into our worst two seasons in history is the guy for the rebuild. Sure.
I know we've had lots of injuries, but there were far too many games of being completely uncompetitive when we had 10-12 very experienced players in the team.
He didn't get enough out of the team in 2020. Nor 2021. Nor 2022. Nor 2023.
He was incredibly slow to recognise his game plan was out of date. Everyone else could see it. It was obvious in 2020. Didn't change until 2023.
So it looks like we're in for another horrid year next year. Great. Hopefully the young players' development is not hindered too much

Yeah I was expecting a new coach and another gf win next year as well.

Disappointed we didnt pull the trigger. Simmo wont be around when we mount another challenge and I strongly suspect he will be shown the door at the end of his contract. Would have much preferred a fresh set of eyes on the list, even if only in a caretaker capacity, to shake things loose and see what we could find. A new coach entering a club sitting stone motherless last on the ladder is as much of a "free hit" as you can get in this game.

Suspect 2024 is going to be much of a muchness with another bottom 4 finish on the cards. If the medicos and S&C teams also escape the axe then I will be a very disappointed fan next year.
Like North melbourne did after Brad Scott. How many coaches in the last five years have they had and still useless.
Just fix the problems we have in S&c and a few better assistant coaches.

Hagdorn might be a bit of a nonce. And he might have gotten some things wrong in the past (probably in an effort to be first). But he has also gotten a lot of things right. And i don't think he is cynical enough or uncaring enough about his own credibility and reputation to report things he didn't believe to be correct. So whilst not totally sold on it yet, i am prepared to listen to his theories about Nisbett white anting Simpson.

And backing up what he is saying, Eddie's reporting has been a non - stop drumbeat of negativity towards Simpson that he is clearly signalling in the way he presents it as being from sources at the club as opposed to his own opinion or guessing from the outside. And i have no doubt that the person Eddie calls when he wants to know what is hapenning at WCE is Nisbett. They are well known to be very god mates. I think we can safely assume that the source for everything Eddie reports about us is Nisbett.

5 wins from almost 50 games, dreadful effort against Fremantle just three weeks ago, and also in the last quarter against Adelaide. His win % has slipped to 52% and will slip further. He's lucky he had two years up his sleeve.

I'm extremely angry with the decision, I didn't think my opinion of Fitzpatrick and our soft as **** board could sink any lower than it was, but it has.

I still think the enevitable end will come for Simpson sometime in 2024.

Despite personally wanting Simpson gone it is funny watching the media not own up to their false reporting, claim they were correct all along, and that Eagles board have done a backflip.
Ralphy suggesting JL has pushed the whole board aside ha ha. Like yea sure Elizabeth Gaines and Ben Wyatt are going to be bullied by a sportsperson.
And that the Eagles have now only just done the sums and realised how much it's going to cost. Becsuse the former state treasurer wouldn't have thought to do this before.
Or the claim that it must have been true (the rumours of sacking) coz Eddie had a trusted source. Clearly trusted sources always come good then.

I don't think it was money that made them baulk. I think it was more that they dipped their tow in the waters of the coaching market when looking for new assistants and found that no experienced and highly rated people would even listen to a sales pitch from them. Our situation is seen as so diabolical through the rest of the industry that nobody wants to let go of a secure and comfortable gig else where to put their hand up to try and fix it. And they projected that forward and imagined what it would be like trying to find a replacement for Simpson as senior coach and it looked like an absolute nightmare in waiting for them. Then they looked around and saw that they are still selling memberships and making money so things are not that bad. And the coach they have is not losing the plot and behaving errantly which would force them to act whether the liked it or not. So they decided to kick the can down the road, stick with Simpson for another year and see what the landscape looks like 12 months from now and then re - assess.

The idea is sound if all the assistants are cleaned out.. knights said last week he has a contract for next year so maybe they will spend the cap money paying him out and pouring money into other areas..

Also anyone in the football department who has been there since before 2018 should be out as their credits have long run out.. see ya Nicoski and the like who apparently work in development where there has been none.

Nicoski is very highly rated at the club, from what I have read in the past. I am the opposite, I would like to see him promoted in some capacity.

Almost finished lower than the worst team in history, with the best coach of the modern era. Thats bad.

I bet you voted for trump too.

Very interesting language he used to describe JL too, he nearly slipped up actually, but he said "the former sacked Australian cricket coach" - threw in the word sacked, perhaps to slightly diminish JL's worth, give the feeling that JL would be bias and not want to sack someone given he had the same done to him, alluding to it being a mistake...

So diabolical that players and coaches are asking to leave the club in droves...?
Unlike the club down the road who are about to lose another top 10 pick because they want out, West Coast are actually a very attractive option and the top gig would be a highly sort after position, especially given most of our coaches are kept long-term.

Take off your rose coloured glasses. If it was a different club in our situation you would be laughing at them and having schadenfreude fuelled mental orgasms while doing it.

Industry expectation is we won't make the finals again for another 5 years. If you are an assistant coach/aspiring senior coach and you are looking to enhance your chances of a senior coaching gig/get a contract renewal as senior coach you need to be at a club that is producing results and get a share of the credit for the results. If the club you work for doesn't make the finals then there is no credit to go around. Even if you did a really good job in your area if the club doesn't make the finals then nobody will notice. You have to be at a winning club to enhance your reputation as a coach.

Do you think Matthew Knights and Jarrod Schofield have enhanced or damaged their reputations/personal brands within the industry and increased or decreased the likelihood of future job offers by coming to us two years ago and being associated with 5 wins in two years?

Five years out of the finals is a little extreme. I expect another bottom four finish next season but we should be playing finals by 2026 or 2027.

Raising Knights and Schofield is an interesting point. Both have won flags at lower levels as head coaches. Knights was coach of Geelong's midfield for many years. Port finished top two in two of the three years Schofield was an assistant there. Sometimes combinations don't work but when you combine those two resumes with Simmo's and it doesn't work, are they just crap, or are there extenuating circumstances?

The past two seasons haven't helped anyone at the club but all three of Simmo, Knights and Schofield could walk out of the club and into another AFL job tomorrow.

There is clearly issues everywhere but the senior coach is the king of all things football, always has been and always will be. We both know we are keeping Simmo because of money and no other reason at all. There has to be some scapegoats abd I am just pointing out that will happen over the next few weeks.
Look at it through clear glasses and enjoy your opportunity.
You have 2 more years of whinging about Simmo to look forward to.
