Do you always say others are whinging when they disagree with your opinion? The club has made the call based on money, you know this as does everyone else. Don’t try and sit there on your high horse thinking it was because Simmo is the right coach to rebuild. You sound like a fool doing that.
Yeah, nah.

Certainly money was a factor, but as others have pointed out, there were several reasons to keep Simmo.

For mine, the priority is getting the players fit and driving mich higher standards for players, strength & conditioning and medical departments.

Unless these are fixed it doesnt matter whos the coach as our shitty performances have been primarily die to lack of on field fitness driven by injuries.
Quite a lot of the injuries are contact injuries caused by players throwing their bodies around in brave but absurd ways.

McGovern in the recent game against the Bulldogs was an example.

Brave action but he could have been out for months.

It seems the penny is dropping though. In a recent press conference Simpson alluded to teaching Oscar how to land so he didn’t injure himself.

Some intelligent self preservation has to be part of the equation.

Oscar has enrolled himself into a ninja school for this off season lol he said its to learn to land properly when going for marks and such.

Even if the club held onto Simmo just out of spite to all those media numpties I am happy.
If we have a good run with injuries for a change and a pretty solid list to pick from each week then have a similar season next year, well obviously time for a new coach.

Now this has been put to bed lets bring on the trade and draft period.

I’m ambivalent about Simmo being back. He’s here now and that’s it!
But the media and ALL the supporters want blood.
It shouldn’t be Nessie going it should be the board.Absolutely piss weak that lot.Talk about procrastinate; a couple of reasonable results, supporters jumping on the band wagon, players publicly backing Simmo and it’s all over.
The senior players area big part of why we are in this position .If they played for the coach every week instead of selected occasions we certainly wouldn’t be in as bad a situation.
As oft stated here,Simmo can coach, but mate all this public love from players is going to make it harder for you to make the tough decisions which are looming. Will you drop a player who publicly supported you?.
You haven’t kicked arse over the last few years and I doubt you can change.
It’s much easier with the kids because they are desperate to establish themselves; that’s the group that Simmo will again have success!
PLEASE PLEASE Simmo; develop a slightly more ruthless edge , no more credits in the bank, positions to be earned by endeavour not reputations!

How do you know the board's position though?

They've said all along they backed Simmo in, and they have.

They've been the most consistent of the lot.

Normally when a coach has the 'full support' of the board, it's curtains for them.

Not this time.

Good that Daniels actually pointed out that the comments about 'bringing in talent' doesn't mean in any way, shape or form that they want to trade pick 1, because they have multiple early picks.

He just said it's be negligent of them not to look at all offers, which is 100% true.

Look, there are some fantastically run clubs, no doubt.

But WC has always maintained a considered, steady as she goes approach.

It hasn't reslted in a threepeat, but it has resulted in at least a couple of red hot cracks at a flag per decade, consistent finals appearances, great facilities, a bangin stadium, excellent finances + support.

All with the kinds of challenges a team so far away from the Eastern Seaboard faces.

Simmo has been a solid coach, with outstanding moments and also appears to be a good, and largely scandal free bloke, with an even keel.

This is a sensible decision, and hopefully the board and admin can fix some of the areas that need fixing.

Hard to get repeat or threepeat Premierships from W.A.
Thought these stats were relevant...stats approx.
Since 2000 - 2023, Vic clubs have won 15 times, with 12 runner ups = 27 total Vic clubs represented in GF's since 2000 versus Non Vic clubs -have won 8 times with 10 runner ups = 18 representations.
Vic 27 vs. rest of country 18.
W.A clubs represented 5 times as winners+runner ups. (WC-2 wins, 2 runner ups. Freo - 1 runner up)
QLD - 4 times
NSW - 3 times.
SA - 3 times
It's not a monopoly? Perhaps we and the Footy media biz should be focussing on change on the AFL board and the arrogance, instead of WCE? (different thread perhaps)

Don Pyke imo is the absolute best person for the role of CEO of the club.

1. He breathes footy and has been successful through all areas.
2. He is financially a very well connected and intelligent man.
3. He understands the balance and the importance of relationships throughout not only the WCE but also through WA footy in general. (this will likely lead to much better relations with WAFL clubs and the WAFC)
4. He doesn't take bullshit and is willing to be a hard arse when required. (this is potentially what makes him a significantly better operations manager or CEO than senior coach)
5. He has been at multiple clubs in multiple states and is currently involved at a high level in footy so is more in touch with current and future requirements than almost all other options.

I would go as far as to say he is almost uniquely qualified for the role at West Coast.

I'm happy the club has decided to back in Simpson. The easy option would have been to do what the media has been telling them to do and apply a circuit breaker by changing the coach.

Interesting how certain some of the Vic media were on the coaching change. I don't think they have any backdoor lines of communication at West Coast... I think most likely the Eagles board were doing their due diligence and speaking to the AFL about payout terms for Simpson if there was to be a change... and the AFL leaks like a sieve to the Vic media, who then made some educated but incorrect guesses.

Why would Don Pyke want a club CEO's job?

Reckon's Pyke has been waiting for a call from the club.

Still bleeds West Coast at heart.

Also thinks he would be the best kind of person to be at the helm should the club do a coaching transition in the future due to his experience at all levels.

Money isn't a factor either - the guy already has more than he can ever spend.

Just over a year on from the debacle that was Essendon sacking Rutten. The rumoring, the conflicting board takes, the dick measuring games, the historical figures coming up for a say, the mixed messages, then the decision to bring in a coach who effectively has produced similar results to the prior two seasons. And the internal shenanigans still continue....

West Coast have just enacted the model of GREAT GOVERNANCE.

I couldn't be prouder of the top brass today. The toughest decision to take was to stick fat with Simpson, go against the musings of the click economy and snub all the 10-second analysts with a hot take. The biggest flock of one-thought sheep are so many of them.

"Fresh voice, new ideas, revived energy".

For every Macrae and Kingsley, there's 3-4 of Watters, Richardson, Ratten, Noble, Shaw, Rutten, Dew, Sanderson, Pyke, Bolton, Teague.

Remember when Ross Lyon was on the nose at St Kilda. "His era's over, fresh voice, new ideas..." they played with his contract and he left. St Kilda let him leave through their actions. Turn over coach after coach and who have they turned to now?

Simpson is a top shelf coach, his record shows that. If he wasn't WCE coach he'd be one of the first to be targeted right now. He was the obvious choice for me. It's one of the strongest decisions a club has made in the history of the game. An almost unprecedented call given how sustained the death riding of the season was this year.

Well done Eagles.

F*ck the SHEEP.

Hagdorn might be a bit of a nonce. And he might have gotten some things wrong in the past (probably in an effort to be first). But he has also gotten a lot of things right.

Might be a bit of a nonce?

There's no doubt whatsoever. The bloke is a complete clown, and an object of ridicule - and for good reason.
