What’s Treloar’s worth? His contract is massive, he’s getting old and he has injury concerns. Collingwood can’t be too stubborn given that they’re desperate to get him off their books. Pick 15ish?

Hard to say as he is very good when he plays so I'd honestly be wanting something equivalent to pick 10 but we backed ourselves into a corner with what we said.

If they are trying to flog him out like a cheap suit, I doubt they will even get that. Not because he's not worth it - he's a very good footballer - but because he has a long-term contract, doesn't want to leave at all, doesn't want to go to a club that is not already near a flag, and doesn't want to leave Melbourne.

That's not a lot of options.

On top of that, Richmond probably can't afford him, neither can StKilda. The Dogs are possibly the only other club in it.

I'd push each back by 10 and raise Treloar who I'd say is worthy of a top 10 pick f we pay 200k of his salary. We could probably cut the incoming picks but No way is Wright worth that much.
So overate your player and underate theirs...
I would pay pick 20 for him anyday.

His value is about the same as Hanneberys

Why would I spend pick 20 on a Peter Wright where I could land a Nic Cox or Zac Reid for that same pick. Who are 6 years younger. Peter Wright played 0 games this year. 0. He couldn't steal Sam Days spot who quite frankly, is very average. He averaged 1.2 goals per game last year which is very average as well.

Treloar gives you 30 touches a game. Regardless of if it is a dump, Gold Coast have cap space.

Well why did you want him then?

Bacause Brodie and Wright combined in my eyes, are of somewhat similar value to Treloar. I still think we need a further pick coming our way if we offer to pay for 200k a year of his contract. If Gold Coast were to absorb it, then I think those two for him is more than fair as Treloar would be Gold Coasts best midfielder (well depends on how Rowell develops) while Brodie and Wright aren't even best 22. THey could very well be best 22 for us however.

Aren't you a better team than Gold Coast?

That doesn't mean we have certain needs and they don't. I'd imagine Wright would battle with Cox for our Full Forward spot and Brodie would probably replace Treloar, albeit be a fair downgrade. TBH, Im not sure we even finish above them next season, depends on how Jeremy Howe comes back and if De Goey can take a step up in the guts in Treloar's absence. On paper, I think we are a really good side but that is a paper from 2018 which may not still be effective in 2021.

Fair enough
Still think the trade is more in your favour.

St Kilda would be the best fit for him IMO. Surely they could afford him? Who are they paying? I know Hill and Hannebery are on big contracts, but outside of that, you’d think they would all be on pretty modest money.

Treloar would complement Crouch, Jones and Steele very well.

Hill, Hannebery and Crouch are the obvious three. They need to set aside big money to keep players like King, too. Their salary cap is only going to get tighter as their young players improve.

That’s not much when you consider other clubs. They could front load the Crouch contract and get creative in other ways to fit Treloar in. Plus the Hannebery deal will probably finish up by the time King, Clark, Marshall, etc. start earning big money. I don’t think their cap is under much pressure at all. All speculation though.

**** the Collingwood FC

they treat this bloke with little respect

Forget Gold Coast he doesn’t wanna move, he wants to stay in Melbourne and only at Collingwood. (Wife away only 3 months).

His taken pay cuts the past 2 seasons and told the club re-do contract taking another pay cut moving forward to stay but they have rejected and want him out.

Absoloutely disgusting.

This bloke bleeds black and white and is shown no respect. If does leave it’s against his will and only to Melb based club.

The part i find silly is all the conjecture and talk about his wife moving to qland for a year is blown up
What happens if a trade went through to Gold Coast when the wife comes home? He’d be straight back into Melbourne.

its a pure salary dump but the way it’s been handled reflects so badly on the pies. I actually think collingwood will come out of this off season pretty well as they’re being ruthless but a guy as good as treloar doesn’t deserve to be treated like this. Whoever gets him will be laughing as the bloke will be ultra pumped up for a huge 2021. I know he won’t come to Richmond but a team like Carlton would thrive with him. Would make the Carlton collingwood rivalry even spicier then normal the next few years!!

Generally being both young and in the final 8 in the previous year.

So that just immediately rules teams out does it? If you ask me, this is an overrated view in the game and determining which teams are in flag contention is nothing more than a matter of opinion.

Every year is a new year and every year has seen surprises. I think

I think players like Treloar right now if looking elsewhere, would be making decisions more based on what environment looks promising and will benefit them rather than simply which team is closer to a flag based on general consensus.

Port Adelaide (2020), Brisbane (2019), Collingwood (2018), Richmond (2017), Bulldogs (2016), Adelaide (2012), West Coast (2011), etc.

You'd be surprised how common it is for a team to surprise people each year. And with the game looking more even nowadays, I reckon such surprises will occur more often.

He is 28, he hasn’t won a flag yet. More to the point, the reports are that he would only move to a side already in contention

Feel for Treloar atm
Hes locked in on a huge contract getting paid more than hes worth and has a hot partner playing pro netball.
Hes going ok... Not sure he needs sympathy...

Dude should just embrace the GC imo.
GC are closer to a flag than Pies.

Guys like Treloar want to be paid as professionals but wont act like professionals.
