Given how bad our midfield is there will be a big push to keep Crouch
At board level certainly.

I also guess if you want longevity as a coach you keep him around because its easy to err on keeping rather than asking the club you want to go in a different direction

We finish low enough we have pick 3 - Horne slides - very unlikely as I think he is locked in at 1 in most clubs minds - we then go for Roberts ( SA Lad and skilled)

It will still take Roberts at least 2 years to learn structures and get fitness up to required.

There are a lot of Tetris pieces to slot in and out. Is Sloane out or in? Are you going to continue on a development path for RoC , Berry , Schoey etc . Is Keays the one to make way for Matt .

Have you seen enough from the above without Matt playing any game time this year to be confident of going on without him?

I am - but I dont have a job on the line to make that call

The way Gold coast are going we are a good chance to try luring Lukosius and Rankine home. I would much rather Lukosius at this stage, would help way more in terms of our needs. Do you rate any of our potential NGA pick ups, I have hear O'Loughlin has potential but he'd be similar to what we already have right?

I think both could come back to SA, but I think we need to show we are building something and closer to a flag than Port.

Newchurch was good in SANFL yesterday highly skilled. Pace. Just needs to learn to tackle and that may only come with body strength.

This year hope for Horne, settle for next best if Hawks and Pies can jump us on the ladder. Frustrating two years in a row the top prospect goes to a side without pick in the top ten. Both teams in Victoria.

Next year grab Rankine and Keeler.
Following year Lukosius out of contract.
Hawthorn won't, Collingwood probably won't either.

We'll win a game or 2 we shouldn't and it'll put us out of reach. Horne will be gone well before we get a pick.

Draper is the one.

Keeler will require us to finish VERY low again next year based on current trajectory

Yeah you would think they won't finish their careers with Gold Coast, would be a shock if they did tbh. That is the thing, would they have faith enough in choosing us over Port, would sting so bad if either of them went to Port. You would think once Port lose a few of their older guys that their window will close possibly.

Draper will go outside the top ten. Not the one.
I don't expect we will be outside the bottom 6.

Dudley and O'Loughlin are both very draftable. It's just a matter of list spots and where.
If I had to pick one it would be O'Loughlin. Think he becomes a gun back pocket not dissimilar to Johncock.
Dudley could become a very good small forward would like to see him play that role at the champs

Good summary of these 2 boys, both fine players.

My worry with O’Loughlin is he’s been running around U18 like an unregistered dog with rarely an opponent. Has very good disposal and decision making BUT little worried about the contested side of his game - he won’t get that freedom at AFL.

Dudley is a bit more rounded I think because he’s developed a very good contested and defensive side to his game. I hope they look past his small stature as he could be a very valuable pressure forward with good finishing skills too.

I agree with you though that both could find their way to our list.

I think we will take one in the draft, the other in rookie draft.

Sounds very promising, O'Loughlin does come from a good football family and definitely could not say no to another Johncock style player. I have heard a little about Dudley, definitely will be good to see him at the champs and how her performs.

It’s very apparent watching footy this year, it’s all about the skills, and we need them

apropos, should Gollant the perpetually injured be looking over his shoulder?

Probably not at this point in time. We usually show a fair bit of patience for project players, and its not like our forward line is settled at this point in time. McAdam could find himself on the outer, Fogarty could, Rowe could, Murphy could. All rather quickly, too.

Gets injured next year and misses a lot of football, and he'll be in serious strife though.

Dudley would be my preference of the two, O'Loughlin really struggled when he stepped up to SANFL Reserves level and soon found himself back in the U 18's.

Nationals provided they go ahead will answer a lot of questions as to where a lot of these lads sit in the pecking order.

Good point about the step up to ressies.

Linke, Draper and Murley all played for ressies this week end and all got a bit of the footy. Murley with 14 and 2 goals was pretty good. He’s been a bit forgotten about with that ankle injury but looks to be back up and running now.

Anyone think we should have a crack at Rhys Mathieson from the Lions at years end? Hard nut. Complete bastard on the field. His last couple of games for Brisbane before being dropped were great but he’s just being squeezed out due to their depth. He’s only 24 and out of contract this year I think. God knows we could do with some midfield depth and our last Brisbane midfield reject goes alright.

Eww. Rhys Mathieson.

I don't think we're in the need for more hard nuts at the moment.

No. He's a very average player

No. He's a very average player
While he’s certainly not elite, his games for Brisbane this year have been more than serviceable. 20 odd touches, 4-5 tackles and clearances, a couple of goals… I think he’d come pretty cheap and would add something to our rather thin midfield stocks. At only 24 years of age he’s still got a fair bit of footy ahead of him and he looks like he’s finally found his feet at the top level. I wouldn’t say no if he was available…

Is anyone worried about our team in a few years without walker? Honestly the champion is carrying us week in and week out, even though he didn’t convert as well today, I don’t even want to think about when he retires. I guess we can only pin our hopes on thilthorpe to become a great player. From what I have seen so far, fogarty just can’t move well and is not strong enough to ever have a career like tex has.
We are over achieving at the moment due to Tex’s class, he’s won a few games by himself. I was thinking that this will hurt us long term. We are right to worry and are pinning all hopes on Thilthorpe. Lucky we have a few years left of the rebuild to hit some gems

We have done ok without him and need to get minutes into our young fella so why not. Matt’s a good inside mid but he doesn’t cover the ground like Keays and at this stage, maybe another top pick is better

He's effectively the same player as Keays but slightly less prolific and much more of a bellend.

trade or free agency :Couch , Lynch, Himmelberg,

I’m not convinced on any of our small forward or medium forwards so I’d look to draft one of these as well as a project ruckman with a late pick.

I’d also make a god father offer to Jacob Hopper.

I know people sometimes fInd these long posts annoying, but I enjoy pondering them when I should be doing something productive.

Not a bad look, my thoughts- Assuming Talia is fit enough to continue playing on I would want him to stay, the back line at this point worries me and having him there and leaving Fish to develop in the SANFL will benefit us long term. Everything I've seen on Dudley has him not falling to rookie draft so I don't see that happening. Are you getting rid of Newchurch in this? He was never going to immediately dominate at SANFL level and needs time to develop, IMO there would be no point in moving him on after a 1 year contract. Also after watching the weekend I'm not sure I am that keen on releasing Strachan unless we can get an AFL experienced body in. Having a skinny 18 year old as our backup for ROB isn't going to work.
