I think we’ve had time to recover. The current pain is the whole Gibbs trade, Hamstring awareness Burton and Collective Minds Pyke related
In the Tippett saga, we lost 2x1st and 2x2nds. Plus, we couldn't trade Tippett, and lost him, so effectively we lost potentially 5 top 30 players on our list, who would be 25 ATM.

Players we would have access to over that period include:

2012: (Atkins, Siggins, Callinan)
Tom Clurey
James Stewart
Tim O'Brien
Kamdyn McIntosh

2013: (Knight)
Patrick Cripps
Zac Merrett
Rory Lobb
Trent Dumont

It will be another 5 years before we recover and are back on a level playing field.

Thanks Triggy.

It's a cumulative effect.

In 2010 we finished 11th. Instead of getting pick #6, we get pick #14, because of all the GC draft picks.
In 2011 we finished 14th. Instead of getting pick #4, we get pick #10, because of all the GWS draft picks.
In 2012 we lost our 1st and 2nd round draft picks due to the Pondscum.
In 2013 we lost our 1st and 2nd round draft picks due to the Pondscum.
We were also unable to get anything in return for the Pondscum making his way to Sydney (arguably costing us yet another set of 1st & 2nd round picks).

... that's before Burton & Criminal Masterminds got their hands on the playing list, and overpaying massively for Gibbs.

There is no doubt whatsoever that this period of draft inactivity has had a major bearing on the lack of top-end talent on our list at present, arguably more so than the (more recent) efforts of Burton & Criminal Masterminds in dismantling what had previously been built.

Hi Crows, I come in peace.

There is an assumption among many North fans that Frog is heading home to SA at the end of the season when he's FA, with you guys the destinationm.

Are you guys hearing this too? I'm not sure where it came from tbh.

Cheers,

SBTDOTB

Shit, I hope not though I guess he'd help our SANFL team somewhat.

sh*t, I hope not though I guess he'd help our SANFL team somewhat.
I don't rate what I've seen of him in recent times, but North fans seem to really like him and want him to stay

Might not be giving him enough credit, but I still wouldn't be excited at all to be chasing him

Totally agree and don't forget the AFL penalising US over Melbourne tanking with the suspension of Dean Bailey (no draft sanctions for melbourne, no sackings, no suspensions, no points docked etc), The AFL leaning all over us to sack rendell and then smiling at us when Collingwood were able to just take him no questions asked...and that we still got to a grand final in 2017 despite all that was as close to a miracle in AFL is it gets. Then take the last 3 years - The AFL directly cost us Noah Anderson by giving GC a priority pick, next year we finish top and still can't select the supposed no 1 player in the land (not saying we are missing out getting Thilthorpe at all - just that we should have been able to get pick 1 not 2 for finishing last). We also miss out on having the benefit of the first pick in round 2 of the draft when they decide just for last year only to do the draft on the one night. Then the Media shills are spruiking the merits of North getting a PP this year - that would push our likely pick 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 and since north are likely to be all over Horne, may then think taking Roberts as well might help with retention stopping us from taking him if he is right in the mix at that pick. Just about every year since 2010 we have been shafted by the AFL in some for or other directly or indirectly.

I'd love it for once for something the AFL does to have a good effect on our club and provide some sort of benefit - not loss

MIght be a contingency for us for the Merrett to somewhere, Crouch to Essendon situation. We might pick up Dumont on the cheap to help out with mid experience and then spend the rest, hopefully the bulk on a good mid in the draft.

A mid that in his best season averaged 23.6 disposals (2019) and 3.6 clearances in his best season (2017) is hardly a player we should be chasing at all.

Sooner he's a list clogger there than here...he's not the future.

There’s only room for one of us and I’m already here.

Personally I don't think we should be after FAs at this point in our rebuild, however if he wanted to come here on the cheap(unlikely), then our neighbours down the road may think he is their next missing piece (after previous pieces Ryder, Lycett, Rockliff, Dixon, Watts, Motlop, Polec and Mayes).

However, if we gave you a 3rd round pick for him and that allowed you to off Matt Crouch a $900k a year deal, we'd have a free list spot for him.

So safe to say he's not a done deal then.

Which is odd given some on the North board seem convinced he's gone and it is a done deal.
Let's not rush past the suggestion of we trade for Dumont and you give Matt Crouch $850k ...

Next 5 picks after we should have had picks-
2012 1st round-
Tim Broomhead, Nathan Hrovat , Dean Towers , Marco Paparone, Nathan Wright
2012 2nd round-
Martin Gleeson , Nick Graham, Tim Sumner , Daniel Currie , Kyal Horsley
2012 was a pretty average draft mostly. Only a few players out of the above still on lists and they aren't doing much

2013 1st round-
Luke McDonald (f/s), Christian Salem , Nathan Freeman, Dom Sheed , Ben Lennon
2013 2nd round - Malcolm Karpany, George Hewett, Tom Cutler, Nick Robertson, Toby Nankervis

We also managed to pick up Charlie Cameron & Jake kelly in the rookie draft of this year

There is no pick where we would be obviously better. Even if we nailed all of these selections it is Broomhead, Graham, Sheed/ Salem & Hewett. Doubt we would be much better than we are now. Whether that makes a difference to our 2017 team is probably too painful to consider.

I'd take - Matt Crouch out for North 2nd round pick and Dumont in...

Can't see any situation we take Dumont while keeping Crouch.
We do not want or need Dumont....period.

Seems a bit pointless really, seeing we'd get the same from FA and without having to take a list clogger.

Heh, not happening. Good luck with that ... St Kilda seem to be your best bet.

We will be lucky to get pick 30+ for M Crouch in free agency. We have seen this story before.

Pick 30+ for a player who has averaged 30+ disposals in the last four years, a player in his prime and has already got one AA to his name?

Yeah, pull the other one.

We have seen the Matt Crouch story before. It ends in us getting a band 2, or band 3 compensation.
