Here are my issues with the article.

1. What does it achieve? This has been talked about for 3 years. How does this add anything useful to the discussion?

2. There is no new information here. It is just the same thing, put into a narrative form, with insignificant small details added to attempt to make it sound more genuine. If I missed some, please tell me what the new information is.

3. The only thing new is that he has changed from 'my sources', to 'I've spoken to 6 former players who attended the camp.' Gives more credibility right?

Well here's the problem, those 6 players aren't named, and specific quotes aren't attributed to specific people.

The article talks about there being 3 different groups who experienced different levels of the camp. The article focuses only on the details of the senior camp.

If only 1 of the 6 players he talked to was in the senior camp, then he only has one source for the article. The fact that he doesn't give much detail about the players makes me think this is the situation.

4. Why the **** is this news when there is currently a club where a NAMED player has only recently publicly gone on record saying he was subjected to systemic racism while at a club, and that is getting less attention.

5. Gibbs says he experienced worse camps at Carlton. **** me, shouldn't there be investigations into their camps then?

6. I'm just sick of our club being beaten when it's down. We're trying to move forward, and dealing with getting destroyed every week while in a rebuild. Surely that's bad enough. Time for the afl media to pick a new media scapegoat.

End rant.

Betts and Jenkins
I have no doubt they are the source.

But why did they stick around for 2018 and 19?

Eddie woukd be playing for us today had Carlton not tapped him on the shoulder.

We actively traded Jenkins out. Geelong barely wanted him and we are paying some of his salary.

The camp was bad and is a reason for our fall. But why didn't these two try to leave our club at the end of 2018 if they had such strong views?

So, as a self professed medical professional, you'd rather he divulged personal medical information.

Good one.
You need trained psychology professionals to determine if there has been any damage caused by the camp, but not to run the camp

Jacobs showed his true colours with his behaviour in last year's SANFL finals series. Complete flog and we're better for him being gone.
Writing was on the wall for years with Jacobs. Would rather play with a broken back and one leg because he "thrives on continuity" than let ROB into the team and potentially take his spot/make the team stronger.

The camp was 2.5 years ago, and those responsible are no longer with us. We’ve even got Daniel Jackson at the club to help work on rebuilding club culture.

What is the point of this article?
Manure has been sitting on his story for a long time. He talked about it last trade period to Nick Dal Santo that he had a story that will come out.

I think hes been waiting for the affected players to leave the club so he could press them further and run the story. He has unnamed quotes now.

The issue with waiting is if Roo, Chapman and Fagan goes, then the story does nothing outside of being an oddity.

And there is no reason 2 of that 3 should be in leadership positions at the club come the end of the season.

(Gibbs, the new recruit, admitted it was "cultish" in some quarters but said he had been on "a lot worse camps" at Carlton.)

This just made me laugh, how does Sam write this and still think there’s an article 3 years later without any of the involved parties actually putting their name to it!!!

So much for Fairfax/9 being the non tabloid news source!

He doesn't have to mention specific names, duh. Example, "a player was reported to have had a panic attack, needing to be hospitalised for 1 week".
So shit happens in camps, whoop dee doo da! I want to know the objective truth of the outcome of the Camp - this should be what we all need to know as fans.He should have an objective statement regarding what it is that makes it a "disaster"?
Talking about stuff happening in Camps, I'm sure there are plenty out there that have been worse. McNure even briefly mentioned in a one-liner something about Carlton Camps.

If I was McNure, surely the next big article would be something on Carlton camps....surely??

Hi guys, thought I'd just drop in. I know this is a sensitive issue for you and your club, so if I am unwelcome, let me know.

My initial response to the camp was similar to some others "we already know all of this". The more I thought about it, the more concerning it becomes. Imagine crawling along the ground and having your teammates berate you for childhood trauma, witnessing/experiencing domestic abuse.

No wonder why Adelaide had an exodus of players, especially their Indigenous players. We know that some of the Indigenous boys grow up in environments that aren't healthy, and it is easy to weaponise those experiences in ways that reinforce negative stereotypes about Indigenous folks.

All of this in an exercise to build resilience. I felt a little sick to stomach thinking about it.

The way we build resilience is through compassion, kindness and mateship. Footy clubs are meant to build communities, and for many people who have had difficulties in their lives, are places of healing.

Adelaide have completely destroyed the fabric of their club with the camp, and subsequent refusal to be transparent and fully acknowledge the damage that it has done.

How do you trust the club, and your fellow players after they take your deepest darkest secrets and turn them against you? Sloane may say that he had no negative impacts from the camp, or Gibbs might not think it's a big deal, but perhaps that's because neither of them have the wounds of complex trauma?

I've always really admired the crows from a far and want them to succeed, but jesus christ, this is getting beyond the pale.

Oh look another Camp story.

We get it. It was a bad idea, tore our playing group apart and affected the next two seasons.

You're Missing the Point. We have denied this and the people responsible and the people lying about it, are still at the club. They have destroyed this once great club.

It was 3 years ago. The instigators are no longer at the club, largely Burton and Pyke. As for past trauma's being used against some of the players, this isn't new news.

McGovern for example, as reported by McClure was looking to leave the club after the 2017 GF, before the camp.

There have been a number of issues raised as to why he wanted to leave. These included his GF being offered a course as an extension of her law degree only available at a Melbourne Uni, a close relationship with Teague and his surprise when he left, contract negotiations with the club that brought Gibbs (apparently felt he was deceived on money available within the TTP), being offered a much larger contract with Carlton. Oh, and the camp. He probably would've been in group 1, considering that group were largely been flogged on the track and McGovern has a history of poor fitness.

Jenkins was pushed out, as was Jacobs. I could on and on in regard to the others.

Clearly there have been internal problems at the club, not just restricted to the camp. The review is addressing these problems, however it's clearly going to take some time. And it seems there are going to be mistakes along way judging by Andrew McLeod's comments a month or so ago.

To me it just seems like lazy journalism, and now it just seems like the media are using the camp as a stick to bash the club. Almost like a reflex 'there's a problem at Adelaide, it must have been the camp'.

Ricciuto in hiding, off radio for 3 weeks. To avoid the fall out.

He is a coward. And I'd say that his face.
LOL .. says the clown mouthing off on an anonymous internet forum. I'm sure not how he managed to coincide a 3 week break with McClure publishing an article.

My only issue is the club appears to be continuing to make the same mistakes over and over again. The instincts to react with defensiveness is an issue. McClure reached out to AFC for comment knowing the story would go to print, and yet the club chose not to comment.

Something along the lines of:

"The Adelaide Football Club recognise the damage and division this camp has caused our current and former players, and we acknowledge the pain that it has caused. The camp was designed with the best interests of our players in mind, however, on reflection, the camp consisted of inappropriate and harmful activities that we deeply regret. Since the 2018 preseason camp we have undertaken a thorough internal and external review of the football department, including the appointment of a leadership and culture manager to ensure our football club provides the best possible environment to nurture our players, on and off the field."

The appearance from a neutral is the club is going through the motions as a PR exercise, yet still refuse to acknowledge the mistake, or commit to internal change required to get back on track.

As a member of a club that tore itself apart just over a decade ago, I can't help but conclude that until that happens, it will be difficult for the crows to turn things around, no matter what draft picks they get over the next 2 years or so.

Not sure how the club were defensive in this instance. The just declined to comment. The issue has been done to death

I'm surprised you dint tell me to shut up Or support another club, Sarah.

When Andrew Jarman backed Mcleod and said several ex players agreed with him, he got a week off the very next day.

The coward would of known the article was coming. Tommorrow we will have blewett talking about how much his wife likes his penis again, just like whn jars was suspended

To be fair, both Sauce and JJ have plenty of time on their hands at the moment.

It’s great to see that Maclure is focussing on the BIG issues in the AFL.

Stabbing in the middle of the night - Nothing to Report

Player wandering semi-naked and off his head in the early hours - Meh

Sexual assault charges - Give the lad the benefit of the doubt.
With 2 of these, which media company pays his wage?

You should put your tin foil hat back on and head over to the Conspiracies board

Also, just to deal with the 'none of this is a big deal' nonsense: it doesn't matter whether the very few left who still want to defend what we did think it's a big deal. Who is concerned with the views of the last few rats too foolish to jump off the titanic?

What matters is that it is apparent that players thought it was a big deal. Players who are at other clubs. Players who have friends at other clubs. Players who will talk to other players.

This will absolutely impact upon our capacity to attract players, which was already abysmal.

You don't think that indigenous players might take the views of Eddie Betts seriously when he says that we offended him to the point that he lost the desire to play football?

This is a disaster, and the fact that we didnt immediately do everything imaginable to rebuild good will is mind boggling.

McClure is like the CNN of reporting though - the club could have said anything to him and after he applies his filters to it is becomes unrecognisable - you'll struggle to find many crows supporters that trust McClure in any capacity
