Adrian Dodoro: Football’s Biggest Fraud IMO

Exactly, blues worship SOS who hasn't anywhere near as many runs on the board as Dodoro.

Dodoro has always been a screwed negotiator, typically he comes out on top. Was very surprised when they had to pay 2x 1st rounders for Shiel.
Still salty huh ? Perhaps you should avoid trade week this year ..as i expect it to get worse for you ;)

I love how the wide football community hates Dodoro because how hard he negotiates with other teams.

I'd rather a list manager that gets the best deals, rather than one who bends over when pressured e.g SOS.

The first line is fair, but wouldn't you rather a list manager that has shown some ability to bring in a list that is capable of contending? How long can he last without Essendon having a list capable of being anything other then finals cannon fodder?

It's not his sole responsibility to perform week in week out though. He has picked up some really good players for from the draft and trade period that came cheap e.g Mckenna, Saad, Fantasia, Tippa, Merrett, Smith, Redman, Ambrose and others I may be missing. His high draft picks have been ok, not excellent but still not terrible.

Our team on paper should get us to an 5-8th position on the ladder realistically. We came up against the reigning premiers on their home deck and lost by 50 points. I'm not sure that was a surprise to anyone really.

We got out ran and out grunted by a side that is coached in a much superior way than ours. Why isn't this blame being placed towards the people responsible for shutting down the opposition and executing a competent game plan?

Harsh.

I'm not sure Adrian can be attributed with costing the entire competition about $300m dollars through inept recruiting.
I agree Clayton’s caused more damage, mostly because Essendon is too big to fail, but the quality of their work is similar.

Trade week champions who love flankers and have too many mates in the media to come under real scrutiny.

I couldn’t give a damn about how hard Dodoro negotiates.

I’m criticising his ability to put a winning team together.

Seriously how does this bloke have the reputation he does?

How does he seemingly have free reign to as he pleases at Essendon and end up with promotions.

What has he actually achieved?

All this talk about Worsfold and maybe he’s part of the problem but this bloke has been in charge of their list 7 years.

Won zero finals, his drafting leaves a fair bit to be desired in my opinion and year after year they have the same giant flaws.

This man has a lot of people conned including the media. Don’t think I’ve seen them ever criticise his record.

Always banging on about him winning trade periods. How can you win them when they don’t lead to any sort of genuine success?
Been saying the same thing for a while.

If you haven't been able to put together a list capable of winning a final in 15 years, you shouldn't have a job.

He's the one common denominator over that time period.

If you were to apply the same logic to SOS would you not come to the same conclusion?

Dons have won exponentially more games over the same time SOS has been in charge.

Two things re Dodo in my opinion

1) he gets a lot of unwarranted reputation of being hard to deal with. To be fair he probably was in the early days, however over recent years his trading record has been fine and the trades that needed to be done got done.

2) Having said that, how he has a job is beyond me. I find some of my fellow supporters worship of him cringeworthy. He is a common factor in our finals drought. Yes, we can blame other factors such as injuries, the drug saga, player development etc but 15 years without one finals win is a joke. And only one of those finals was close, the others were beltings. At some time his performance has to come under question. That time was probably years ago.

I guess you would prefer to celebrate victories in October rather than September

I think most are at best amused by his antics every trade trade week, and find the adulation by Essendon supporters reasonably misplaced given how mediocre Essendon have been over a long period of time.

You’re missing the point of the thread though. Dodoro does well to get trades done, and has a decent record in the back-end of the draft, it’s his inability to put together a balanced list together that is his Achilles heel. He’s taken so many flankers and no genuine inside mids, Essendon’s running defenders are all attacking players with little defensive nous, and their ruck stocks are embarrassing - literally 3 career D-graders and Draper.

No wonder Naitanui and West Coast’s midfield trampled all over Essendon. That combination of shocking ruck stocks and exclusively outside midfielders was always going to be a perfect storm.

(It’s beside you point, but you did in fact overpay for Shiel, who is far less effective when he’s transplanted into a team without adequate support on the inside. I haven’t watched him a heap this year but there were some embarrassing efforts from him last night).

I don’t give a shit about Dodoro personally. Recruiting and list management isn’t ever a one man job (you’re in ****in trouble if it is) and is managed by committee including football management and coaches.

I’ve been happy with our trade periods of late and I think we did a very good job of navigating the years where we lost draft picks and had key players such as Carlisle, Ryder, Crameri and Hibberd leave the club.

That was a very difficult period which would’ve tripped up many clubs but I reckon we came out of it well.

We’ve had some misses at the draft but that’s always the way. McGrath, Parish and Francis are travelling well even though I reckon they’ve been stunted by not being played consistently and in the right positions.

I don’t have any huge issue with him and equally if he was replaced by somebody else I wouldn’t really care. SOS aside I don’t think I could name a list manager at another club.

I don’t really get his celebrity and why he exists so prominently in the heads of opposition supporters. I think it’s just because they know his name. For example, St Kilda’s list is a bloody train wreck and nobody is starting angry threads about their list manager. Nobody even knows who it is. Same with plenty of clubs.

Wouldn't know. I've given up trying to explain that maybe it's not the 5 coaches in 20 years that's been the problem.

Maybe, just maybe, it's the 1 list manager.

Can't wait to get Jack Martin. That'll solve all our problems.
Will Dodo hand over two firsts for him too?

Just dont see the list they going anywhere. The KPD pillars are ageing and banged up (Hooker and Hurley). The midfiield they have is imo one of the worst in the comp. Decent name on paper but they arent the right fit together. They have good small forwards and hbf but no decent youth banging down the door to get into the 1s. I think they are in big trouble list wise as they probably thought they were closer than they were
