Re: Preliminary Final - Geelong v Collingwood

5/6 goals hhmm ..maybe if you can get 10 goals out of the mighty quartet of Dawes/Beames/Cloak/Brown et al in the 15 minutes we played like Sheilas in the third quarter. Not sure how the Pies will respond if we start to kick a few in a row deep in the third or early in the fourth...that's the soft underbelly that has yet to be exposed???

If you play like you did tonight, we'll win by about 5 / 6 goals.

Care to explain Captain ****wit?? You've won sweet FA in the last 20 years and haven't beaten us in a final since 1892.

Don't think you'll get as easy as a few weeks ago, you should have put us away but could only manage a 22 point win, you're nothing and we've got you covered unless Neon Leon carves us up

You guys were in front of us the last time we played but we took back control and ended up winning. Both teams have the heart to come back if they happen to go down by a couple of goals.

Re: Preliminary Final - Geelong v Collingwood

Fair enough, but for all the lightness and air about the Woods at the moment; a little birdie tells me ( history is her name ) that come crunch time ( middle of the 4th let's say ) there's a fairly good chance that the Toovey's, Reids and maybe Mr Shaw could come under a little bit of heat and well ...the rest might be history

I actually agree with that. Forgetting the awesome start and junk time in the 4th we had some really ordinary and exteneded patches with poor ball use and Freo could have been a fair bit closer with better finishing (and yes we missed our fair share too).
Having said that we did only what we had to, have no injuries and a 7 day turnaround. Should be an absolute belter next week.
And for once, all the pressure is with the Pies.

While it was as boring as batshit to watch from the stands tonight, especially after last weeks match, it couldn't have worked out any better for the Cats.

I'd almost be willing to say that the type of match played tonight ('training run') would almost be as valuable, if not more, than having the week off. You keep the momentum rolling, yet don't come out of it with physically sore/tired players

As much as i would have loved to have been watching my own mob play tonight as we seem to put on absolute rippers (and actually get decent crowds too! - the atmosphere wasn't there tonight :(), both sides seem to end up with multiple injuries and many a sore bodies that the prelim against the rested pies might have been a bit of a stretch for the winner.

A shoutout to anyone on here that I've met in section Q49 the last two weeks, I've seen a few of the same faces popping up now and it's been great to chat and get on your bandwagon :p

Be guaranteed you'll have every single non-collingwood supporter behind your mob on Friday night and if the worst comes to the worst and you don't go all the way this year, then claiming the hat trick of knocking the Pies out in the prelims would have to be close to the next best thing! :D

Carn the Cats.

Re: Preliminary Final - Geelong v Collingwood

Without doubt, Geelong in a prelim is more of a headache than playing Fremantle.
I doubt though, that the win or performance by Geelong created any more / extra headaches for Collingwood as it is.

If you play like you did tonight, we'll win by about 5 / 6 goals.

That's presuming you play at your best, which I probably agree with. However, there is a big factor and that is the fear! You've not won a Premiership for 20 years, you are big favourites, huge pressure. I remember us in 07 we were very tight and we nearly lost to a far inferior team. You are playin a team of equal ability. If Collingwood win by 5-6 goals it will be a triumphant of mental toughness. As underdogs, we must be a mightly daunting task.

Massive game.

Scarlett indicated Mackie would come straight back in, but for who?

Lonergan will be needed for Cloke who he's played on well this year, so not him.

Stokes was good, so not him.

Byrnes was fumbly, but still ok, so probably not him.

Wojac was great, so definitely not him.

The only one I could see him coming in for is Josh Hunt, but I doubt Bomber will drop him.

In all likelihood no change.

We will have to play much better than we did tonight to beat Collingwood, but I believe we can!

Re: Preliminary Final - Geelong v Collingwood

#### off w***er. Geelong in a prelim is without doubt more of a head ache than the Dockers. On top of that there were no obvious injuries and was not a particularly taxing hit-out.

True, although I was in tears at half time when I thought Pods had done his knee. Thankfully it didn't turn out to be serious and he should be right for this week.

While we were scrappy at times tonight, I have no doubt that was in part due to players trying to conserve energy in the tank as much as possible for next week.

If we play to the level where we did against the Bulldogs, I'd draw the same conclusion.

I think that is irrelevant to the players. Players rarely get caught up in such "hoodoos" & it's more of a supporter driven feeling. Most players don't really care for such matters & it's an external feeling.

you are big favourites

We are? The Premiership market is us at $2.80. You are $3.20.

There would be a 20 cent difference in the h2h. Hardly "big" as you say.

I think you're trying to convince youself that past matches means something. The whole, there is more pressure on Collingwood is not true. Maybe for the supporter base, but there is as much to lose for both sides on Friday nite. The time you say, "we've won 2 flags & it doesn't matter if we get beaten" is the time where you are most vulenrable. AFL players & coaches don't allow this thought process to exist.

Personally I think it's a bit of a shame that we have to meet in a Prelim (two most consistent teams all year) but good luck all the same. Rest assured there will be a week of mind games from both sides. Hopefully it's a decent match whoever wins.

Looking forward to flushing the filth down the dunny on Friday night.

Sure they have improved but the filth are no match for Geelong when it counts.

Cats to cruise to victory by around 7 goals. :thumbsu:

The past is relevant. The weight of expectation on Woods players is significant. This without question is the pies biggest hitout since 1990. Make no bones about it. For the players, for the club, for the fans, for MM's desire to be seen as one of the great coaches, this is the one they must win. Much intrigue how the young pies respond???

Taylor to Cloak. Mackie to McAffer or Beames. Lonergan out . Hawkins vs Blake 50:50 - I'll leave that to the experts!

No. The way Taylor played tonight, you wouldn't trust him to Cloke, and Bomber won't. Lonergan has played well on him before and will do it again. Mackie's going to find it hard to get back in unless there's an injury.

Bomber said Otto was close to being dropped, which tells you 2 things. Firstly, Hawkins ain't being dropped, and secondly, because Otto played well tonight, Blake ain't coming back in.

Playing Collingwood. Awesome

I think that playing the Colliwobbles in the Prelim is the best possible result for the Cats. Tonight was an easy training run for us and make no mistake next week will not play out like tonight did however we got some form back in to some of the Team and now the Colliwobbles will have to think about how hard we will come at them like we have in the previous two Prelims. Selwood was back into form and the Pods got going again. Their Moronic fans will be confident on the outside but deep down what happened tonight will give them sleepless nights all this week as i believe we are one week away from dismantling and ruining their Grand Final party. I just just see them sitting there tonight praying that we would not get through. Yes I know they will harp back to our last encounter and say how lucky we were to be so close but this is a new game with a lot more pressure and we have been there before and come through. With two premierships in the last three years and ready to go again the pressure now is totally on them. load up Cats and do the job. get ahead early and watch them fold. So good to be playing them.

I can't see any changes to this side except trying to get Taylor Hunt in at maybe Byrnes or Stokes expense

And before anyone jumps down my throat re: Stokes, please tell me how many goals he set up tonight because I saw him get on the end of a few easy ones but didn't set any up himself

Mackie might as well get on the cocktails and have his own private Mad Monday right now because Joel Corey just took his spot with a decent enough game around halfback

I still think we really need some more run which was clearly demonstrated by the fact they put SJ on the ball. So Taylor Hunt in and one of the forward pockets out, because let's face it we have a lot of players that can cheat on their man and sprint flat out to the goal square on the turnover

Should be a great game. If we play like we did in the first 15 minutes tonight, we will win. If we play like we did for the rest of the game, line ball. They must come out breathing fire again!

Interesting to hear Bomber in the press conference. He mentioned a few times how it will be a "massive, MASSIVE" game against the Pies. Obviously this is true, but Bomber is normally pretty low key about these kind of things. Also said we'll have to hate the Pies as much as they hate us. I like it.

Somehow I don't think the coaches will expose Taylor Hunt to a packed MCG in a preliminary final against the Pies. Especially considering he hasn't played for a few weeks. More likely to play in the back half too.

LOL OldStyle.

JC did play well and I called during the week that he should be mainly in the back half ;)

Bomber won't play Taylor Hunt though, or any other kids, you know that!

Mackie will be the 23rd man (and Blake the 24th), the real question is whether Bomber will turf someone out for him. Josh Hunt was quiet again, but I'd keep him. It could only be for one of the FP's, namely Byrnes, but he was ok tonight and we need run against the Pies. If it were me, I'd leave Mackie out, it's harsh I know but he can only blame himself for the position he's in, he's had all year to do something about it.

I'd drop Hunt for Mackie, that is the obvious call, I hope we do. His confidence is shot after last week. Mackie is quicker anyway and could take a small.

“[Mackie] was the 23rd player this week. He got dropped because we had a better player we thought needed to come in, not just this week but with next week as well. Lonergan won’t go out of the side, (Harry) Taylor and (Matthew) Scarlett won’t go out of the side. It’s whether Andrew can fit his way into the team."

"We’d love to have him, he is a high-quality player but unfortunately you can only play 22.”

On Josh Hunt:
“To do what he’s done all year, coming back from a knee reconstruction, has been outstanding and there is a lot of confidence in Josh".

So I think Hunt will stay BP and it will be hard for Mackie to get back in.

Re: Preliminary Final - Geelong v Collingwood

Our win tonight created a hell of a lot more headaches for the pies than it solved......

I am intrigued, what is it that needed to be "solved"

not convinced by tonight, as harsh as it seems

at times our run and carry and defensive pressure was brilliant but frustratingly fleeting

4 quarters of that and we're in with every chance

if we turn off, start fiddling with the f**** ball and give players like swan/didak/thomas freedom to move a f**** centimetre with the ball we will go down.
