Its funny and I know I am really sticking the neck out but I dont consider Freo a top 4 side this year. They did well last year but in reality only was 2pts away from 5th, as was sydney. The difference is that Sydney have really strengthened there list in the off season and I dont think Freo did the same. Sylvia has talent but IMO Lyons defensive swarm the footy type style wont suit him.

I see freo in the eight but as a lock for top 4, nope.

You can reverse the game a Subi if you want, but all that would means is Freo play a full strength side, in a must win game against 16th placed St Kilda in round 23.

Hardest top 8 to make ive seen. Afl have got the comp very even. I think it will be a year of change. West Australian grand final maybe. Sydney and hawks havnt strengthened there teams. Very open premiership race

What??

Sydney haven't strengthened their side? Are you taking the piss?

I agree. Freo might have the cattle to win a flag but not with Lyon running the show. Just because they have added Gumbleton means nothing when their game plan is completely flawed.

Flawed how exactly? Leading into the Grand Final, Freo was the dominant team of the finals (Hawthorn was lucky to make the GF). Despite clear evidence of "stage fright" by the players, Freo had more shots on goal than Hawthorn in the Grand Final and but for inaccurate kicking by usually accurate players such as Fyfe, Pav, Ballas and Crowley, could have won that game.

Not surprising that after all your carry on about Freo, you've put Richmond ahead of them. Barring injury, Freo should finish ahead of Richmond given we have a better midfield, better defense and a far better coach.

Strange post considering the two games last year against Freo. If it wasn't for a goal umpire bouncing the ball back into play when it was clearly a goal then we would have beaten you 2 for 2.

Suggesting your side is better at nothing other than boring football. The Sydney Freo game an exception.

Let's see. This year we won a qualifying final against Geelong in Geelong. We then won a preliminary final against the current reigning premiers.

Richmond lost its one and only final to the team that finished 9th.

Yep, we are a better side.

Oh and you might like to read the AFL rules. It wasn't a goal because it hit the goal umpire and did not cross the line. Game over.

Sounds an awful lot like us in 2009, when we dominated the inside 50's in the first half of the GF but missed a bunch of easy shots for goal and just got overrun in the end. We struggled to be as good for much of the following year, but if anything our list was weakened slightly by losing Ball for that 2010 season, whereas you guys have likely strengthened yours by adding Sylvia and Gumby and potentially having more of your best few fit and coming off a full preseason.

Free agency has come at a perfect time for your club.

Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong, Freo.
The rest are just making up the numbers, and not important :D
Fairly safe to hedge your bets on same top four again. Doesn't happen very often.

I think a lot of people in this thread are underrating Collingwood. Very strong side with good youngsters coming through, I expect them to improve this year and will finish 3rd or 4th.

No need to cry dude. I just dont rate your game plan which has been proven to fail. Also your window is this year, once thats done and Pav and co leave it will close. No need to shoot the messenger, just my opinion :)

No defensive game whatsoever. They also lost one of their best defenders. They'll be split wide open by competent teams.

Mate, I'd leave the metaphors alone unless you understand them. You don't have a message precisely because it's just opinion. The other guy was simply saying he has no time for your opinion in this case; not many would.

Sydney In-Franklin Out-Mumford Lamb Bolton White Everitt. Franklin wasnt in hawks top ten best and fairest. They gave up a lot to get him

All I'm trying to say is. Compared to this time last year theres a bunch of teams ready to play quality football in 2014. The gap the hawks and swans have on the comp is gone. West Coast, Essendon, Kangaroos Both Adelaide teams. Freo Tigers Pies Geelong are all ready to go in 2014

Interesting theory. Our game plan got us to a grand final. Yours got you booted out in the first round of the finals.

In relation to "Pav and co", we won most of our games last year without Pav and Sandilands playing and with McPharlin also missing a huge chunk of games. Guess you're wrong on that one too. Got any other theories?

The gameplan only works when the list is capable. We haven't had a list capable for years, the judgement of our gameplan will be over the next few years now that we finally have a team that can get to the finals.

Lyon however has had capable lists before, and his gameplan has failed multiple times.

So you haven't had a capable list for 30+ years? That's the last time you played in a grand final. Plenty of coaches in that time. Funny thing is that Tigger supporters have been saying year after year that your list is capable of going all the way. Now your saying that hasn't been the case?

Hardwick in 4 years has taken you to one unsuccessful final compared to Lyon who in three years as coach has taken Freo to three finals campaigns, including a Grand Final. Pretty obvious who has the better gameplan.

Haha educate:confused:? We haven't copied anything from Port thanks very much. If anything we are close to the hawks model. I also don't know how you can we are finals chokers when we have only made the finals this year after many year out of the 8. how can you say we wouldn't be able to beat them if we ent actually played them in the finals yet? Pure supposition bull crap. Are you saying 1 in a sample size is enough? Spare me champ;).

oh and where did the hawks game plan come from champ? who is hawthorns coach?. oh thats right the midget who was an assistant at port until late in 2004. oh derrr, some people are seriously thick. "our coaching box looks like a port adelaide 2004 premiership re union, but we didnt copy anything from port, we copied it from hawthorn, the team that copied port before us" great logic mr genius thanks for enlightening us

There is no way that West Coast belongs in the group. Based on 2013 form, Hawks, Freo, Swans and Geelong are well above the rest of the competition. Next group is Richmond, Port, Collingwood and Essendon. West Coast back in the pack with North, Adelaide, Carlton and Brisbane.
