AFL 2014 Ladder Predictions

Good post and I agree that you guys beat has and deserved the win, i mentioned that in my post. I am just confused why so much weight is given to just one isolated game by your supporters, that was the point of the comment.
Because it was one of the games we didn't choke :thumbsu:

Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong, Freo.
The rest are just making up the numbers, and not important :D

Its funny and I know I am really sticking the neck out but I dont consider Freo a top 4 side this year. They did well last year but in reality only was 2pts away from 5th, as was sydney. The difference is that Sydney have really strengthened there list in the off season and I dont think Freo did the same. Sylvia has talent but IMO Lyons defensive swarm the footy type style wont suit him.

I see freo in the eight but as a lock for top 4, nope.

Most delusional post I have read on the main board in a long time... :drunk:

May I point out that:
  • Freo have not loss any of our best 22 from last year
  • Have added an injury free Gumbleton to our forward line which was our biggest deficiency
  • Pav, Sandi and Mcpharlin have all had injury free pre seasons for the first time in 5+ years
  • Out midfield is stronger and bats deeper than any other team in the comp IMO
  • We finished the year with the best defence while still losing Ibboston/McPharlin/Johnson/Duffield/C.Pearce towards the end of the year with injury

Delusional? You obviously had an episode after reading my post then come back with the quoted that actually proves my post right o_O.

Firstly I would not say adding a "injury free " Gumbleton till he actually plays 10+ games in a row for you guys. He is so often not on the park its not funny, I feel bad for the guy as he can play but Essendon know more about his body then anyone, and they were not unhappy to let him go. As to uninterrupted pre seasons to your stars, 90% of clubs can say the same thing.

As to you having the deepest midfield. I hope you had tissues with you after you typed that as that's just a wank.

You're last points the kicker though. Lyon's Saint Kilda game plan creates a low scoring game. Is that due to your "best defense" or due to just the zerg around the ball you lot create. Hawks cut you up with short kicks, as did Richmond at the G, so the plan has weakness. Also your scores for, for a top 4 side is quite sad. So again, you have not added strength to your list. Your points talk about internal improvement, all clubs will have the same lift.

On the Gumbleton point, I really don't think he's going to do much. I mean he was injury free all year last year, but didn't play too many games, and didn't play well in many of them. I just think he's not going to change your fortunes much.

I also think Freo won't be top 2, but I'd be baffled if they weren't at the very least 4th. I've got them at 3rd personally.

Richmond aren't as good as Freo or Sydney yet. Don't let the ladder fool you, those teams pace themselves for finals.
You don't think Freo will make top 4 or you don't think they are a 'lock' for top 4? You said two things.
Anyway, they did strengthen their list. Gumbleton and Sylvia came in, nobody decent left. Sydney lost Everitt, Mumford, Lamb, White, Bolton, Mattner, Morton and obviously got their main man, but you could argue either way as to how that will affect them. Freo also had a huge injury toll last year and when they got close to their best 22 together they were an absolute force. So their list should be stronger this year, just because it's much more likely they'll have less injuries. Don't think your argument has much behind it.
The thing that might stop Freo this year is burnout, I mean Lyon's game plan must be incredibly taxing and maybe they won't be able to sustain it throughout a season. That said, Freo are very likely for top 4 this year imo.

I meant i dont believe they are a lock for top 4. It comes down to how you rate Sylvia, I think he has a lot of talent but to date i just dont see how Sylvia's strengths improve freemantles. Gumbleton is the key, i rate him a lot as a forward. If he can stay injury free then, yes they have really got a injection of talent, not just natural list improvement.

TBH, I don't think his lack of effort, which everyone harps on about, is the main issue. Sure he's lazy, but I just don't think he's any good either. Will be delisted/traded at the end of the year.

Put all the year into beating Richmond instead of trying to win a flag. :D

I agree. Freo might have the cattle to win a flag but not with Lyon running the show. Just because they have added Gumbleton means nothing when their game plan is completely flawed.

Nah, the key is Matthew Pavlich. His 2013 season was ruined by injury. He is now in as good a condition as he has ever been. Sylvia and Gumby are the icing. Pav is the cake. Expect a return to late 2012 form when he averaged 4.5 goals a game over a 12 game period.

Top 4 is a lock. I don't expect us to win the flag though.

Top 4 is not a lock for any team this year, and Freo are no exception.

I reckon Freo at 3, but this could be the closest top 8 we have ever had. Take my bias out and i reckon North could be the big bolter for top 4, and Port will be the biggest loser from last years top 8

Feel the same, not sold on the North Hype. I do believe they will make the eight. My bolter would be Adelaide. I have not put them in the eight because its so tight but with now having a nearly full list, it would not surprise me if they charged back in the eight. I agree with PA, they are most likely to slide.

Learning how to win a game (or rather learning how to not lose a game) is as big a challenge as any other mid tier team faces. North are no more likely to finish top 4 than Richmond or Essendon or Collingwood or Port.

Wouldn't put much importance of the Gumbleton signing but I do believe Freo is a lock in for another grand final berth. Lyon is a master coach and Freo's list is much more delicious than Swans.

Hardest top 8 to make ive seen. Afl have got the comp very even. I think it will be a year of change. West Australian grand final maybe. Sydney and hawks havnt strengthened there teams. Very open premiership race
