I'm surprised at the lack of optimism from Eagles fans. We should take Melbourne at home easy. Just hoping for a good showing from our boys.

Last year we were very lucky to escape with a win. Dominated us in every stat except the scoreboard.

If we are less than 100% defensive efforts and work ethic today we will get belted. This Melbourne team is not the easybeats of the past.

If the Demons show intensity and play 4 quarters I'll be happy, no matter the result

That's old Melbourne thinking. No way you should be happy with an honourable loss. I know Jones is out but we're an average side and you should be going into this game thinking you can win. We're probably mild favourites but we haven't been impressive home or away all year.

For those playing at home the weather is magnificent today. Currently 18 degrees and sunny. Had about 50mm of rain on Wednesday but the ground should be in good condition.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be spewing if we lost on one hand, but if the Eagles play like they did last week I can see it going down to the wire. Watts out is probably a bigger loss to us at the moment, for all the flak he cops he runs hard to make space and is one of our more creative players. I fear we'll miss him as that link up man on the long Subiaco ground.

Hoping for a good contest, we've been in every game this year hopefully they can keep it up.

Having watched Melbourne the last two times they played at Subi (inc this pre-season) - we somehow have to halve the midfield battle - or at least get close.

WC have been smacked both times, absolutely smacked - but somehow snatching victory.

From what I have seen of Melbourne recently - they have tidied up their i50s - which was their achilles heel - they do that and win the midfield as they've done recently - this could be ugly at home for WC.

It's 2017 so who knows. Melbourne could win by 10 goals or lose by 20.

Melbourne are the sort of side we don't play well against. We like slow in the middle and long kicks to contests. If you play our way we'll win easily, but you don't really have the forward targets in for that style. If you move the ball around the flanks, run with handball etc. then our plodder midfield hates it.

Part of the better ball movement inside 50 has been Watts related, I'm hoping Pedersen can fill that role tonight or we just plunk Gawn in the goal square and just bomb it inside 50.

Bomb it i50 and you lose - especially with 3 talls back,

I agree with Watts though - quality skills. Blokes like Viney need to win it and give it off.
