It's not a strong top 8 by any means, Cats are in a Preliminary against a team that got the lucky dip for top spot. They both start even, but on any given day Geelong can turn it on. Their game against the Port "Nobodies" in Adelaide was their worst for the year, that won't happen again. The pressure is all on Melbourne this week...
Agree cats can definitely win, that’s why I was surprised by your comments last week after 1 poor game.

Melbourne will do it easily. 2016 and 2017 prelims spring to mind. Our form has been trash for months. We were lucky to go up against a depleted and mediocre GWS outfit on Friday because that performance would not have troubled many other sides in the 8. We are on tired, old legs and have a negative gameplan that always withered when the heat is applied.

Demons will likely replicate their 2018 EF effort against us, if not do better. Expect a massive one-sided first quarter/half and then a couple of even quarters where Melbourne put the cue in the rack and Geelong fights back a little but are too far back to cause any real concern.

All the pressure is on the cats to win.
Pressure on Scott.
Last chance for Hawkins and duckwood.

Most people picked the demons to miss finals this year so nothing to lose
The pressure is on both sides. It’s a Preliminary Final. Melbourne won’t get a much better opportunity than this.

Cats have gone all in this year. A finals loss is a failure. Dees lose we still have years of young talent to have a crack
Have you just outed yourself as Melbourne fan? Melbourne are the form team but others are coming as well over the next couple of years. They’ve had an incredible run to date with injuries. If they don’t win it from here it will be a huge failure as well. Every one of the final 4 has a lot to lose.

Feel like the winner of this match wins the flag.

Geelong have experience in not being the favourite in the PF like they were last year, and put in a professional performance to dump Brisbane out. Keen to atone for last years GF loss. Losing Parfitt hurts but we have seen before in PFs that the week off can cause teams to have a slow start and if Geelong capitalise they have enough forwards that can kick 5+ goals.

Melbourne have been the most consistent team all season, and have the right players in the right positions. Geelong looked like they had Melbourne cooked last game of the season then Gawn turned on God mode and went bang. If there are any nerves in this Melbourne team, you feel they will rear their ugly head here as has happened to other teams in PFs when they go in a heavy favourite.

If Melbourne beat Geelong, it will be by 15-30 points based on jumping Geelong in the first quarter and cruising. And if Melbourne make the GF they will win it.

If Geelong beat Melbourne it will be by 5-15 points, based on a nervy start from Melbourne that Geelong take advantage of leaving Melbourne to have to run down a solid margin.
Gawn is the only player on the ground the Cats cannot match. Tuohy, Duncan and Ratugolea did not play in the last game of the season and Geelong had an 8 goal 2nd Qtr and were at one time 12 goals to 4! The Demons will find the Cats a stronger lineup this week. The Dees defence are going to be kept busy, the only way they can win IMO is their midfield thrashes Selwood, Danger, Guthrie and Duncan? I don't believe they can do it. Cats by 26 points!

Wow ! Surprise Surprise ! Jack is back on The Cats !

The game will be won and lost in the middle. If the Cats get a hold of us in the middle who they have playing forward will be irrelevant. I'm confident Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney et al will get the job done but I still feel sick in the stomach waiting for the game.

Tuohy back is huge for the Cats he was superb the other night, I'd say he and Stewart are the Cats two most important players. Henry has also been very good down back this year but I think weight of numbers will get it done for us.

Yep- we have heard that before. And so often it doesn’t turn out like that. No guarantees. You have to take your chances when you get them, they don’t come round often.

Geelong are missing the best backman in the game, (Stewart)

You mean Geelong are missing THEIR best backman, right? Because if you meant the best backman in the competition that would be embarrassing. He wouldn't even be in the top 2 defenders on the ground on Friday if he were playing.

Geelong will need more than Selwood, Danger, Guthrie, Duncan because Melbourne have Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and others and Dangerfield is struggling with a broken finger on his right hand. We will need another genuine midfielder to replace Parfitt. That could be Narkle or Constable not Simpson who has not learned the craft yet. Max Holmes can pinch hit in the midfield as well as he did late in the GWS game.

Ridiculous to say one club has more pressure than other. It is a prelim final FFS

Yeah, it’s the kind of thing you can argue from both sides - Geelong have loaded up on an ageing list and need to get it done, or the dees have been at the top basically all year and need to take advantage of this gilt-edged opportunity.

End of the day it’s BS. Both teams will be excited about being in a PF and also feeling the pressure. This’ll be a good game I feel, good luck to both clubs.

I can't even raise a gallop with that comment...i just dismiss it as nonsense.

At this time of the year, all fans must believe the team can do it. Geelong were better last week without the midfield starring. They are due for a big one...Melbourne have more to worry about than their supporters think?

You are joking if you rate May or Lever as highly as Stewart. Stewart led the home and away in marks overall with 179 and in intercept marks. Lever who plays a similar role at Melbourne had 124 total marks. That is why Stewart is a massive loss for Geelong.
