You mean Geelong are missing THEIR best backman, right? Because if you meant the best backman in the competition that would be embarrassing. He wouldn't even be in the top 2 defenders on the ground on Friday if he were playing.
It’s debatable who is better between him and Lever this year at their best. Stewart overall has been a better player through his career.

Love the fact people are either certain of a Dees/Cats win, or really certain they will lose.

No one in here thinking it could be close and go either way. No fence sitting in this thread.

Safe to assume Melbourne will line up as they did in the QF or is their an injury everyone is unaware of?
Corkie to Alex Neal-Bullen apparently, that’s it.

:tearsofjoy:
He has been in the top defenders the last few years, how about you compare AA over the last few years between May, Lever and Stewart.
Averages more disposals, more effective disposals, more marks, has the least contested defensive losses out of the 3, more metres gained.

He beats May under most metrics and is second to Lever in a few but Lever is second to Stewart in quite a few too.

His stats are padded because of the possession game played by the Cats. Mark, disposal etc numbers don't mean much in that context.

May was injured most of 2019 and robbed of AA last year. Lever was returning from a knee injury in 2019 and has taken his game to another level this year which is shown by his breaking the record for intercept marks this season. Stewart is a very good player, he's just not as good as May or Lever.

They have almost identical contested possession counts so I don’t see what the Cats’ game style has to do with anything.

Oh c’mon mate, that’s a laugh. He has only been playing since 2017 and made AA 3 times already.
May and Lever are well below him, finally they have a Stewart level year.
You will probably win Friday night but if things were even injury wise you most certainly wouldn’t.

Ticketmaster can go and get f’ed

Just wait for the Grand Final where they charge you just for expressing interest.
No ticket? Don’t worry, that’s $5 anyway.
Register 9 mates, unsuccessful that’s $50. The real bad part is if you bother to ask your mates for $5 each.

Stewart has been better than May and Lever. The guy came in and overtook McGovern and Rance as the best rebounding intercept defender in the AFL. He was AA again this year. May and Lever need another couple of good years to match him for accolades and consistency.

It’s a stroke of luck we aren’t having to deal with him this week. Just be glad he will be watching, not playing.

May and Lever are well below him - despite Lever this year breaking the record for most intercept marks (beating Stewart's total by around 50%).

May plays a different role as more of a lockdown defender and does this far better than Stewart ever has.

Stewart is a very good player, I see a lot of him as Geelong is my wife's team. It's not an insult to say he is behind May and Lever though as those two are currently two of the best defenders in the competition (not talking about 2018, 2019 or 2020 but this season).

Cats will need to change their team up and game plan if they don't want to be beaten for a thrid time in a row this year.
You’re right & thats exactly what has happened since Round 23....Our two best distributors by foot (Tuohy & Duncan) were missing that night, plus we’ve added in Esava, we will be stronger this time around. Whether that is enough to counter the quality of your team, as well as the week off, remains to be seen. But don’t think for one second you’re facing the same side.

One thing I must say atmosphere was pitiful for the cats giants game, I know it’s a neutral venue but get involved Perth!
What did you expect when it was one of the worst games played at the stadium all year (and that's saying something), the team 99% of the neutrals were going for failed to kick a goal for the first quarter and were trailing by a 4 goal margin for most of the game.

There wasn't that many in Geelong colours at the ground and way less GWS. Again, not sure what you were expecting.

Stewart was as close to a walk up start for the AA team as you can get. Is he not currently among the best defenders in the competition?

Ok fair enough, good important stat but it’s not double. However still well clear.

For Stewart I value his meters gained which for a side that chips it around he is exceptionally important and out does Lever there. Also in effective disposals and score involvements.

The fact it was a record attendance for those 2 teams playing eachother yet still didn't have that crowd intensity factor says it all. Not only was the venue neutral, the crowd was too. How involved can tens of thousands of people who don't really care who wins be? Plus the game wasn't oooh or ahhhh worthy. Contrast that to a pulsating game with a home crowd at the Gabba. Thanks for the patronising comment though.

And people need to lower expectations for the crowds. 44K on Friday, 52K for the rugby yesterday and 2 more big games to go. There is going to be the same people forking out for multiple games (or not, more the point). Not sure Perth was easily going get 244K people through the gates inside 3 weeks in the middle of covid19, but we'll go close.
