Biggest ever comeback in a grand final at 3/4 is 24 points in 1984. They’d want to be a bit closer I’d reckon.
Maybe, but it's all mental. They'll both be knackered at that stage with the heat, in this scenario.
The crowd starts "Coooollingwoood, Coooollingwoood", get a quick goal or two, and tired Lions could try and save it, which won't end well if 20 points up with 15 minutes to go...

It has been a hectic couple of weeks and it really only just hit me today that my beloved Pies are into a Grand Final.
I knew we were into a GF after the win on Friday but with the franticness of events and working out the logistics about whether to go to the GF or not, it has only just hit home that we have made it.

Whether we win or not, remains to be seen, getting there though is a massive achievement and something that both teams should be proud of because it isn't an easy task.

If we win, I will be stoked.
If we don't, so be it. I will be disappointed but still proud to have gotten there.

There will no doubt be many Bigfooty trolls (strangely more Melbourne and Carlton, than Brisbane) having their say.
Maybe they don't like what they see in the mirror. They cannot get enjoyment from their teams winning, so they look for enjoyment in another team not winning.
Strange but whatever helps them sleep at night. I suppose it beats crying into your pillow (im looking at you Christianboy ;))

Whether I choose to be at the game, at a pub, or just reflecting and enjoying from home, I hope for a great game.

Congratulations to Collingwood and Brisbane, you have been the best two teams all year and fully deserve to be there for the last day.

Can I just ask though, that you stop for a second, do away with the Bigfooty BS, and just reflect of the achievements that our teams have accomplished this year.

One team will win, one team will not but both have earnt the right to be there.

Respect that.

Yes great call. And luckily bigfooty is home to great sportsmanship, goodwill and a feeling of joyful camaraderie. I’m sure all neutral fans of the game will have nothing but good tidings for the fans of the winning team and the runners-up as well…

In terms of overall best teams for this season we've got the best matchup. What's more is that they beat the 2 most recently in form teams to qualify which I think is absolutely the best qualification both teams could've gone through. Both sides play a perfect contrasting style that has the potential to both play tight or fast rebounding. Collingwood is the clutch time specialist, Brisbane is the specialist at breaking games open.

I'm looking forward to a rehash of the early 00s rivalry. Both teams have points to prove: Can Collingwood beat Brisbane despite being, comparatively speaking in recent times, a bogey side. Can Brisbane win at their bogey ground in the MCG. One side will have to conquer a hoodoo to finally shake off all questions about them and take their place in the annals of champions.

Honestly very excited about this one. The narratives write themselves. Not sure I can pick a winner.

Are you trying to tell us you know more about footy than Eddie?
Could you explain what you have done for footy?

Eddie might be a DH but he has done a lot of good for footy, especially for the CFC.

He has done what he wanted to do and that was to look after his own interests which includes Collingwood.

Basically manipulated the league for 20 years.

High of 28, will surely be one of the warmest grand finals played if that's an accurate prediction.
No ill will towards Collingwood at all from me (i'll be going for them on sat), but I feel like everything's going in Brisbane's favour at the moment.
Love what both teams have done this year and hope it's a cracker.

"schadenfreude" refers to the unattractive human tendency to take pleasure in the misery of others.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe they managed that year perfectly?

Blooded some players, tried a few different things, always planning to peak in the finals knowing they were always going to qualify?

I mean, one of the knocks on Richmond's dynasty team was that all of their premiership teams only just snuck into the top 4 at the end of the home and away season.

You can't have it both ways...
You're funny.

Yeah, Fitzroy managed season 1916 extremely well by sending their players to the western front for training. LOL. It was in the middle of WW1, why do you think there was only 4 teams competing that year?

Anyway, hopefully it's a good game and hopefully for your sake your team doesn't invent another way to lose a GF.

I admire the energy you have to just keep living in this distorted reality of yours or yo continue this facade you have on BF. I don’t whether to feel sorry for you or if you’re actually really smart at trolling but I admire the energy.

You say the narrative writes itself, but geez you did a good job at articulating it here.

It is called facing reality.

Expectations not met simply leads to disappointment and in some cases depression. If by some miracle we win, I will be over the moon. If we lose I will just look forward to next year.

Our history however, is one of reaching GFs with ' not quite right teams' and some bad luck thrown in, just like this year.

As a famous man once said 'The more things change, the more they stay the same'
History as shown, Collingwood play amazing football all year, including finals. They play with confidence and the flare to eventually make the Grand Final. Then something happens which I can never understand, they play safe and stop playing the style of football that got them in to the GF in the first place. The fear of losing takes over.

I’m too young to understand what happened between ‘58-‘90 with the whole Colliwobbles, but feels as though Fly has this group playing with no fear. If we get beat Saturday, it won’t be for a lack of trying or flair.

Collingwood will need their best last quarter to secure the 2023 flag.
If you look throughout the history of Collingwood GF's our last quarter is our worst in terms of scoreboard results. Yes there are some exceptions but very few where we have kicked 3 goals plus.
1953 - 1 Goal
1958 - 0 Goals
1960 - 0 Goals
1970 - 1 Goal
1977(1st) - 1 Goal ( up by 30 points)
1981 - 0 Goals
1990 - 2 goals
2002 - 1 Goal
2003 - 3 Goals ( all in the last 5 minutes )
2010 (1st) - 2 goals
2011 - 0 Goals
2018 - 3 goals (1st two goals of the last qtr)
2023 - ???

I know Pies fans have been preoccupied by who will replace McStay, and I'm especially worried about our ability to bring long kicks down the line to ground (though sounds like Brisbane is not quite as strong as Dees or GWS in defending this part of the ground).

Brisbane fans what matchup/area of the game are you worried about?

Well said but in truth Gws are better than both currently.

This Magpies team fears absolutely nothing and never stops believing.

This Magpies team fears absolutely nothing and never stops believing.
If you were to believe this then you would be rightfully justified in attempting to describe your team in other word than just expressed.
If Collingwood with one or two players out can scale a mountain the likes of which are yet to be achieved by an man in recent history than how much more so a team like the Lions whos very namesake indicates the large powerful beast that can consume a magpie whole.
Heres to that predator swallowing its prey come Saturday.
