Melbourne are playing with motivation and conviction in 2024,
more aggressive and scoring has improved too.
Brisbane must to regain some momentum and poise.
This will be a very close game, at the G.
Demons by a whisker, It will be a ripper game.

I do think people overreacted to end of last season when predicting us in 2024. I mean we lost to the premiers in Collingwood by 7 points despite kicking inaccurately and blowing many opportunities and then lost to Carlton at the last minute, kicking 9.17 and having our 2 key forwards out injured as well as no Brayshaw. We're a different team with Petty forward.

I think we needed some young kids to stand up this year and they have been in McVee and Windsor. It can all turn pretty quickly though and Brisbane are a serious team. And Charlie Cameron always scares me.

you guys have the edge on us though. Beat us in the finals and then should've beaten us at the G if not for Melksham. This season is only new. Teams can hit form fast. People wrote us off after we lost to Sydney
I guess that's fair. Hoping we can turn around our poor start. But we have tough games to come. We could be 1-7 easily.

I think most people just thought there was a lot of potential to go wrong. I had the dees finishing 1st to 12th. It was a pretty dire pre season with Brayshaw gone and the troubles.

It's true you got well on top in two finals and lost them. Would that be a spur or the beginning of the end? Clearly the former!

The big 4 still there - Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, May - still playing at their prime. May plays on the best key forward and still takes intercept marks. The rest make up probably the best midfield trio when going well.

Interesting on the Hoyne segment on SEN. He said Melbourne's goal kicking is a huge factor - they take the most difficult shots in the league but their actual accuracy vs expected accuracy is plus 10%. For all the endless analysis, if you kick straight you usually win!

We have been kicking quite poorly in every game except vs north.

Having said all that i think there is a fair bit more to it - Melbourne clearly playing a good committed brand and bonded by their criticism. We look, more than anything else, devoid of confidence. Maybe the north game helps that. Maybe it was a dead cat bounce.

It's hard to give the spotty Lions much of a chance at the MCG against a fairly smooth running and hard edged Dees.

Are we allowed to use Essendon's patented "edge" moniker to describe another club?

Usually things aren't as good or as bad as they seem, so this could be closer than expected, especially if Dees forward line doesn't function well on the day.

I hope it's close. Fingers crossed.
