Ok. All this free Kick Hawthorn Guff.. You have no idea how wrong that is.

From a great bit of statistical analysis... Hawthorn has BY FAR, the worst free kick differential since 1970

And even see it is getting worse since 2020

So stop with the lazy "Free Kick Hawthorn" bull poo. it just is wrong

PS. 12 Flags in that time too...

Pages and pages of umpire discussion and nobody is actually talking about who played well, or the game itself.

You're all cooked and are addicted to raging about umpires.

That was a really high pressure game of footy. Great quality game for this time of year. You all got to watch a great game and everyone is just focused on umpires. Real shame.

Carlton deserve a lot of credit. They've only won 2 games out of the last 11 but they had a real crack all night and caused enough chaos to lead for about 5 or 6 minutes there. De Koning is a gun. Carlton definitely better than what they showed against Richmond!
Or it was a game that was over umpired and rewarded too much ducking/staging play from both sides, warranting said discussion.

53 free kicks in a game is extraordinary, it should never get that high. In the first half especially the umpires had seemingly zero control in some moments.

Carlton also do not deserve a lot of credit. Their defense once again looked leaky, their disposal was shocking at a whopping 63.9% efficiency. They got the ball but just bombed it long. Not exactly a strategy that will seem them succeed (As per their 2-9 record in their last 11 games). Hinting that they need a coaching change.

The contest was great but to call that match a "great quality game" is a stretch, hence why I assume you threw in "at this time of year". Carlton couldn't capitalise whatsoever when they got on top and the Hawks failed to really put the Blues away properly when Carlton had no legs for the last 20 minutes.

I do agree that on the regular umpire discussion is always too high but in this instance, it's warranted when there is again 53 free kicks.

The total free kick count is irrelevant in my opinion. There will be well umpired games that only have 30 free kicks paid and then there will also be well umpired games that have 60 free kicks paid. Umpiring should be evaluated on the quality of decision making and their consistency within games not the number of free kicks they pay.

I mean sure, I do not disagree with you but in this instance it was poor. Especially in the first half when the game was on the line for both teams.

I was only able to watch the first half and I thought they were dreadful. Making calls late, an inconsistent application of the advantage rule and all round whistle happy. The worst performance of the season so far. They seemed totally clueless at times.

Weitering could he do anymore, feel sorry for him.

Kemp is the biggest spud I have seen in a while.

Newcombe a genuine brownlow chance this year.

Barrass, Battle, Sicily not much fun for the opposition forwards!

I hope Mcdonald is not out for long, looked like guldens injury a bit which was worrying.

I don’t know what Voss is thinking using Cripps in the ruck. He looked so tired in the last qtr which is understandable. He carries a lot on his shoulders that fella.

I actually really liked how Silvagni played even when he looked sore. He has a crack that kid and plays with heart.

Ward and Mackenzie looked good again for us which is exciting to see. Hopefully they keep it going.

If Cripps gets more votes than Newcombe I’ll spew
Newcombe was a force, although still pretty haphazard with ball in hand. Easily above Cripps though yes and as the game's best midfielder, surely gets the 3.

I thought Hewett and TDK were most influential for Carlton. The latter being off for most of the last quarter hurt his chances though.

Battle was tremendous, I'd love to see him get votes. Unlikely though, such is the life of a KPD. Nonetheless I'd go:

3. Newcombe
2. Battle
1. Hewett/TDK

But Cripps was still good and he's a vote magnet, so I expect he'll get a couple.

The game was terrible, we played shockingly bad again and are quickly sliding into wooden spoon contention.

Hawks didn't want to win the hard ball, Carlton didn't want to function at all forward of centre which gave us an ugly game that fizzled out with a couple of grandma goals when tired legs crept in late.

There is a bit of 2017 style tigers in these Hawks… rock solid backline, role players galore , one key forward and the quick smalls around him.

It’s a game style that sticks up in finals and it’s bloody fun watching these Hawks.

Might hold some water if 5 of Carltons 8 goals didn't come from free kicks.
But go off again you obsessed little broken record.

We're living so rent free in your head, it's honestly hilaruous
Just noticed that. 5 of Carlton's 8 goals were free kicks.

Again... Both teams has 20 scoring shots. Hawks won 12.8.80 to Carlton's 8.12.60.

No different to the 2013 grand final. Hawks won 11.11.77 to dockers 8.14.62. both teams had 22 shots

Richmond of 2017 was similar or dockers 2013 Side to be fair. Only difference was dockers didn't win the 2013 grand final.

I will say it before and will say it again.

I enjoyed that dockers 2013 prelim final vs the swans in the same way the tigers enjoyed that 2017 grand final vs the crows.

Why? Go look on the 2nd and 3rd quarters of those 2 games. The 2 teams that won that day went aggressive and tackled the opposition hard in those 2nd and 3rd quarters
