Representative Preview

Sydney AFL will be looking to continue its history of Representative success this weekend in two Interleague clashes taking place in two different states.
The Senior Representative squad will fly north to take on AFL Cairns at Cazaly Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The side will be looking for an improved result on last year where they were soundly defeated by the strong Victorian Amateurs in Melbourne.
The side is again coached by well-credentialled, Michael Cousens. He will be assisted by Chris Yard and Tim Kenny, and will be well-resourced despite injuries to a number of key personnel.
North Shore's Ron Wason will captain the side, which features four other North Shore players. East Coast are the most represented club, justified by their top placing on the AFL Sydney ladder, with eight players set to run out in the final 22.
The side boasts goal kicking arsenal in the form of the competition's leading goalkicker, Jamie Vlatko. The Eagles' spearhead should not have to look far for support, with teammate, Stephen Doyle, and Sydney University's, Peter Dugmore, also expected to hold down key attacking posts.
Like any match, there is a need to win the ball out of the middle, courtesy of quality ruckmen. David Martin and Steve O'Connor are the two best big men in the competition, with O'Connor, especially impressive in recent weeks, including his strong showing for the Eagles' in their Foxtel Cup loss to Port Adelaide.
Experience was also a key consideration of the selection process with seasoned heads spread across the paddock. Ben Taggart and Kieran Wright are among those capable of holding the side together through thick and thin.
AFL Cairns is expected to be a tough opponent, with the side sure to be full of prodigious talent lured in recent years from the southern, football-rich states.
The Cairns competition boasts seven teams, with the Manunda Hawks currently top after ten rounds, with only one loss to their name.

I dont follow souths, ive just been observing games throughout the league, i think Chris Adams certainly is in the top 10 in the cairns league, he gets a truck load of footy and usually does something with it, he either finds a target or puts the footy into the right spot. i agree he dosnt hurt the opposition on scoreboard as plays footy down back end of feild and gets it wide but he is a good player with a huge work ethic and gives his all, he has been tagged in every game he has played i beleive.
i never said league b&f, i said he would be up there as he hasnt played a bad game and is ultra consistent. but getting suspended obviously means he is ineligible.
thats just what i have seen from outside looking in, i admit that i see more souths games then any other as i live on the south side.

I know the Saints didnt tag him or consider tagging him.......

Heard on the rumour mill that Aaron Motlop and Thomas Motlop have signed up with Mununda Hawks.

Aaron having left NT Thunder in the NEAFL comp

Thomas previously playing for Robinvale in the Sunraysia Football league

Big coup for the league

And no enthuaiastic, (you certainly got your name right!), Hawks have NOT signed either Motlop. Aaron is vice captain of the Thunder, and Thomas is down with his brother Shannon and Daryl White at Robinvale. Fair side down at Robinvale!

did you think about that comment? I would suggest not let me think, mmmmmmm that's right hawks have them they are playing for you

What...2 players. Alex Carter and Mick Lovell. What other kids you on about?

On the inter league team, there is only 1 of the top 12 leading goalkickers playing. Where do they expect their goals to come from? Why wasn't the leading full forward picked? Makes it all a farce in my view. Who of all of us is going to watch?? Anyone?

Chris Adams....you don't tag a budgie that gets his only kicks wide.

Good luck to the guys playing... is the young bloke from Hawks who plays across half back playing?? was impressed with him when they played us.
cops a lot on here but wouldnt be suprised to see Adams go well considering his fitness and ball use.

Easy up mate, wheres your mass of youngsters?
We have plenty of good youngsters Plugg3r, albeit probably a couple of years behind yours. My point was that you also have plenty of good ones, most of whom will end up being better footballers than Alex Carter.

Even if that statement is true, Carter holds his own most weeks. He gets the ball and uses it otherwise he wouldnt still be where he is. Don't be too upset though Watsons, you'll probably find that your other youngsters will see the light and come to the Hawks as well :D :thumbsu:

I wouldn't go that far, unless Robinvale have improved out of sight since I used to play down there ;)
Trust in the Irymple Swallows to destroy them ;)

Is it just me or does anyone else think it is strange that the team with the worst defensive record in the comp has 2 "representative" defenders

agree because they wont have 2-3 loose blokes in the backline helping them out either like they did when they played us.
Although would have been a matter of who wanted to play other than picking the best side

Great work Cairns!

Was a great result, went and had a look from the bar (while watching the Lions get pumped) and must note that Chris Adams plays his role very well, he cops it on here for his coaching and the way he plays. Adams foot skill and fitness was impressive, not every player plcan win their own ball all day, someone has to receive it. I can't comment on his coaching (he has improved Souths even after they lost players) or his past but he played 'his role' well today.

Also, to create a talking point, Glen Martin left Norths for a better offer from Hawks. He was paid at Norths for just playing, Hawks must be paying him more. Nothing against Glen, I don't mind him chasing the money as some people need it!! But Hawks must be paying out plenty to others if they can better our offer for Glen.... I am sure you can enlighten us with some excuse Plugger!!!!

I'm a really close mate of Glen's. As he'd tell ya he came to Hawks because he loves my company

Think if you check your stats mate, Robinvale never lost a game last season and finished up with a percentage of just over 405, then went on to win the GF. Irymple finished 4th on the ladder. This year Robinvale are on top again with 1 loss(to Irymple) and have a percentage of 200 +. So yes, I guess they have improved out of sight!!

Haha. I don't know where you get your material mate, but Glen came to the club to chase some success after being at the one club for a very long time, and serving that club well in that time. He didn't see any improvement in the forseeable future, and so made a tough decision to leave. Hawks was the best option not because of money, but because he liked what the club is trying to do over the next few years and wanted to be a part of that.

It was meant as a joke mate as I used to play for Irymple since I was in Auskick level ;)
But I do agree they have improved, I remember kicking 12 goals on them in U15's one year ;)

Couldn't agree more Teamwork, at the end of the day you play for success ;)
