Yeah bloudy oath it would.. Not only would it attract more good footy players here, it would also keep a lot more for longer periods of time.. How often do you see a recruit come for 1 or 2 years and head off somewhere else, usually back 2 where they are from.. If there was a more supporter base and comradery in each club i think you'd see recruits enjoy there time a lot more, therefore play many more games for there respective club.. Getting recruits is the easy part.. getting them to stay is harder
I dont think that there'll be any decent increase in crowds until the Clubs & the League start to work together. At the moment, all the clubs are trying their own marketing techniques and the League is doing what it can with what its got.
I dont know what you guys think but I think this league could benefit in a complete overhaul in structure. This'll probably start an uproar, but i reckon a good idea is a licensing system whereby each club needs to fulfill a series of criteria to be involved with AFL Canberra. Things like marketing, junior development then become a requirement, not just an off the cuff, splatter gun approach. That way the League has the abilitly to fine clubs if they're not doing the right thing.
I dont know if we have the right people in place, or the financial backing to achieve something like this. I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts though.
