Can anyone fill me in on the difference in standard between the AFL Canberra Premier Division Seniors and AFL Canberra 1st Division? And if anyone knows, how it compares to footy in Adelaide i.e. SANFL Reserves, Div 1 Amatuers.

Cheers :thumbsu:

The AFL Canberra Premier Division is the highest local level you can play were as the Canberra 1st Division is a competition made up of social footballers (ex Premier players who have retired or guys who dont want to train that much due to work, family etc) who enjoy having a kick and a beer, more beer orientated than footy. They train 1-2 nights per week if that, while Canberra Premier teams train 3 times per week. I have played in both the SANFL and the Canberra Premier Division Seniors and would say that the top ACT teams would compete very well with SANFL sides. Back in about 95,96 there was talk of a combined ACT side playing in the SANFL but I think the AFL stepped in and canned it. The Canberra 1st Division would be like a Divi 5-6 Amatuers side.

The top ACT sides would smash the SANFL reserves sides as would the top Amatuer sides in Adelaide. I havent been back to Adelaide for over a while but my mates back home say that the SANFL has gone down hill big time from the mid to late 90's.

Can anyone tell me how the new coach at Ainslie is going? is he taking the club into a new direction.....

If going South fast is a new direction then he is doing extremely well. He has come to a sinking ship due to a mass exodus of players who werent happy with the board and some of their decisions. He is on a hiding to nothing but will collect his money at GO before leaving as they finish 2nd last.

A Bit High - Me thinks you may have won a few awards at AFL Canberra level !!!!

at the game yesterday and jamo was fine, apart from the muddy centre square the ground was in good nick, wouldn't be any worse than MDO. Also with most of the crowd under a small section of shelter gave the game a little bit of atmosphere that you never get at manuka because everyone is so spread out.

And at least the jamo toilets flush, same couldn't be said for the visitors ones at MDO
Don't even go there with the argument between Jameison and MDO. But there would be only one ground around that we could even compare jamo to and that would be stirling.

i agree totally no orange peeler. Jamison was a bloody disgrace and a blight on AFL Canberra in general.

I remember playing at jamo many times .... i thought it was ok, played 1st grade ACTAFL and 2nd grade monaro there.......when i was a kid we used to do trash and treasure at jamo, then leave all the crap we didn't sell just lying there :D and head off to the footy across the road when the old West Canberra was playing.

AHHH ...the good old days. :)

I Dont really know much about Ainslie but the word is that he doesnt have much depth among the players to work with? if so that could be the reason why they are struggling.....

Their reserves side got touched up by a Third Grade Belconnen outfit. All their 'depth' players pissed off to Gungahlin to play Districts. Sad state of affairs.

Already is a scrap heap Belconnen should just leave it to the bum sniffers to run around on. They need to Spend a bit of the money that they have got to be making through the clubs that they have and aquire a facility thats up to scratch. Doesn't have to have the surface of Ainslie oval but it sure can have better facilities then there. They really should work hard in finding a facililty that they can call there own and be proud of. Yeah people bag MDO but Queanbeyan people are proud of it and because of this it adds a definate "home ground advantage" whenever they play there. Surely the Belconnen players and supporters want a HOME ground that they call there own.:thumbsu:

Agree - and the reason the Tigers are proud of the ground is because 90% of the facilities now available at the ground were funded by the football club, not the licensed club. They budgeted so much each year over the past twenty years to upgrade the ground. It hasnt come easy like some others eg Ainslie and the take over of Manuka Oval by Eastlake and Belconnen as "their" home ground with out a cent being spent.

Visitors changerooms at MDO are not up to scratch but neither are Ainslies, Greenway, Stirling, or Jamo's.

All local ovals should have crap visitors rooms. Thats part of the home ground advantage. Why give them space to warm up, nice showers and toilets. Its about making them not wanting to be their. If they go their with a negative attitude because of the facilities then they are behind before the first bounce.

The only thing that needs to be up to scratch is the playing surface and the spectator facilities.

Apart from that who gives a rats what the opposition think!!

I agree entirely with your post........make it local folklore that your club has good facilties for itself and crap for others, makes victory sweeter for the opposition and creates rivalry.

Collingwood managed to do it for 100 years at Vic park with cold showers etc etc etc in the visitors changerooms and hot for their own.

So I watched the first half of Ainslie v Manuka/Weston Creek/Canberra Wildcats yesterday.

Wow.

Wildcats are pretty young and with no real structure they just bomb the ball up to Eckersley. I find it difficult to see how they'll kick a winning score all year. But they have some good players running around so if they hang around for a few years there may be a turnaround in coming years.

Ainslie are just pox.

Frawley played. For about 10 minutes till he went off injured. I saw him on his mobile behind the stands during the second quarter. Good to see him taking it seriously. Bourke is a big unit and still knows how to play footy. that is all. They will really struggle.

Who would you say were best for Wildcats. Ainslie are still arguing amongst themselves but they dont have the players to back it up.

Did Kian Ebert play for Ainslie in the seconds. There was some bloke named as the best but is was Abert, - reports are that the former Qtigers premiership player has resurfaced after wandering around the countryside - he must be about 34 by now.

Wouldnt know didnt arrive untill one thirty, and went straight to rooms, Ainslie still have everything fed to them by a silver spoon and they are still a bunch of over rated boofheads who couldnt give a rats arse about their team mates or the club.
