At his best, Lynch got 25 possessions playing 2nd ruck/forward. Witts is not ready for AFL footy.

Totally agree Re: Witts!
You have have a better memory than me though when it comes to the Big Q gathering 25 possessions or performing well "playing 2nd ruck/forward" in the last month.

He has been average at best.

Tell you what, if we lose this one against an undermaned Brisbane (yes so are we) I reckon Bucks will be in the firing line big time !!!!!

Agree!!! He loses to the lions just proves to me that the players are not trying and want bucks gone. I love bucks best pie player I have seen but champion players don't always make great coaches eg Bartlett, hart, queinlin

Lynch has been average I agree but the problem is I think at his best he'll play Ruck/Forward so he has a chance to roam a bit more. He and Witts are essentially playing the same position - thats why Paine for Witts will hopefully make a change to his productivity (and I'd be happy for Witts to play this role but again it works better if Paine &/Or goldsack is playing it with him)

Obviously the below does not have the Fremantle game where Kennedy played and Witts didn't, but these are the scores when Kennedy has been activated for the big man.

R6: With Witts: 56-50 - With Kennedy: 47-27
R8: With Witts: 76-89 - With Kennedy: 26-7
R9: With Witts: 23-58 - With Kennedy: 32-44

Overall with Witts: 155-197 (-42)
Overall with Kennedy: 105-78 (+27)

So the difference for three games is 69 points, divide that by three, and we're looking at 23 points (let's round it up to four goals), the difference so far between Witts or Kennedy (or big for small) on the ground.

Four goals per game.

And re: Longer, he averaged 13 hit outs per game before he played against Collingwood with a second string ruckman, and went out and had 31 against us.

His previous two games he averaged a hit out every 4.158% and 7.587% of time spent on the ground. Against Collingwood he got a hit out every 2.613% of time on ground.

Or, if converted to suggest he spent 100% of time on the ground for every game, his first game he was on target for 24, his second game he was on target for 13, and then against Collingwood, he was on target for 38. His output was going to be more than his first two games combined

Put any sort of spin you like on it he didn't smash Wood. I could cop a claim that he exceeded expectations by breaking even with Wood, but anything beyond that is just inaccurate.

What I put stock in is that Longer and Witts squared off at the 2011 national champs with the result being about even and if a winner needed to be chosen it would have been Witts. Since then Longer has developed at a faster rate in no small part due to the fact that he was thrown to the wolves against second string ruckmen like Wood and then protected by Hudson against the stronger rucks.

We won't get a better opportunity to test Witts out by himself this year against a developing ruckmen (except against the Suns) because even teams like GWS (Giles), Melbourne (Jamar) and Bulldogs (Minson) have better ruck divisions than ours. Jolly isnt going to be around forever and this year appears to be a development year so lets give him the best chance to develop on the big stage in a one on one duel that won't have a vast impact on the result.

As long as Witts is out, completely fuc****g ridiculous that he has been carried for 3 weeks, embarrassing.

As soon as Keeffe strings some performances together id be putting heat on a bloke like Ben Reid, gone backwards at a million miles an hour
WTF Are you actually watching the game? Most weeks sides are taking Reid away from the play and playing through other key forwards. Sam Reid did this Friday night. Are you suggesting Reid has been beaten in recent weeks???

out: russell, clarke, blair/dwyer
in: shaw (if fit), johnson, martin.

buckley mentioned the other week that players would be picked when their form in the vfl deserved it. i think he made the reference to paine having to put consistently good performances in week in week out to get picked. well, if he was to apply that thought process to kyle martin i dont see how he doesnt get picked this week. laughable if he isnt.

Witts is a ruckman first and foremost and needs to build on that at VFL level.
Lynch is lacking confidence IMO and requires a spell in the 2nd's. ATM Hudson's form was/is superior and I currently see him as a better option as the 2nd ruck/ utilty, he gathers more ball around the ground and also has more physical presence.
Agree with Paine's inclusion SP.

That said if Lynch and to a degree Jolly can regain form then a tall F/ Ruck combination of Jolly, Lynch, Paine and Cloke should work well.

Who would have thought round 10 we would be saying, its a crunch, must win game against the Lions.

I don't even want to comprehend a thought of us getting done - positive lead up!

Kennedy must play a full game, Martin must come in - along with Goldsack if fit

A few posters have noted that they would drop Dwyer and at first I thought that absurd, however fellow Rookies in Martin and Oxley were both rested 3 weeks ago for one week in the VFL. The bye afforded them both 2 weeks off to sought out the niggles and allow them to recharge.
Dwyer has played at a higher level for longer in the AFL and may need a week's break? Let's not burn him out!

For me this week:

Outs: Russell (injured/unlucky), Clarke, Witts
Ins: Shaw (or Johnson if Shaw does not come up), Paine, Martin

Kennedy deserves a full run given the last couple of weeks and Dwyer to be rested slightly by being the sub.

If we drop this game then we need to make a decision about what we want to get out of this season. If we lose then the next few weeks (Melb, Dogs) in my opinion should see more exposure and consistent exposure to Witts and J Thomas so we can what they are capable of along with more of Martin and Paine.

We then have back to back games later against Suns and Giants where form permitting we could give Grundy and Broomhead a debut.

If we consider the premiership out of reach then it is time to consider the next push and if that includes Dwyer, Martin, Thomas, Seedsman, Witts, Grundy, Kennedy and Broomhead then we should get exposure into them. We have the top end quality to still win games against the middle of the road teams and we can play 4-5 of these young guys and still be competitive.

It may mean players like Blair, Lynch, Clarke, Krakouer, Sidebottom and Macaffer miss games if their form drops and we may need to make some decisions on Johnson and Didak and whether they get games ahead of these kids.

The team is side by side unlike some of the supporters here. Bucks is a good coach. Get farked if you don't agree. :thumbsu:

Are you wearing the rose-coloured glasses too?

Agree re: Witts ATM 13, however he has only been carried for 2 weeks.

Disagree re: Reid. Has been carrying an injury and is holding a very unsettled ever changing defensive unit together.

The Reid comment was a passionaite, heat of the moment one - Although I do think he is far from the player he was for your as mentioned reasons. Love to see him get back to that 2010-2011 form.

Just seems to struggle marking the ball these days, was previously a really clean, one grab marker of the football

I wish we would have the balls to try something different, like Ben Reid as a forward. Especially when Keeffe comes back.

All due respect, I would argue we have trialed to much (with a large injury list) and it is time to go back to picking the best side available based on form and position.
As for like Ben Reid as a forward. Especially when Keeffe comes back. I'd love the luxury of having all of our best players back to full fitness allowing us to experiment as suggested.

Would also love to see a dozen other players get back to 2010 -2011 form.
As for his marking no Pie player took more marks and only one Swan in Goodes grabbed more.
He is a victim of his own high standards IMO.

Id just like to start off with saying, I don't give a shit if Heath Shaw is "fat" if we are "making a point" if hes being "punished internally" or whatever other stupid rumors are going around. If he is fit i don't give a **** what hes done, hes playing. Over the next 6-7 weeks our season is on the line and we cannot afford ANY stuff ups. He is in our best 5-10 players and if he isn't on that flight to Brisbane on Thursday for any reason other than INJURIED like legit injured I will be furious.

Spot on - we need to win games now and he's definitely a required player, especially when considering the amount of cattle is sitting on the sidelines.
