I don't think players can tank - clubs and coaches tank.

With Mark Whatshisface taking over for the last 9 games of the season, I don't think he would be interested in tanking. While winning some games won't guarantee he'll get the gig next year, he'd be very unlikely to get it at all if he tanked.

FWIW, I think Melbourne is better than their ladder position would indicate. I think they've had a wretched run with injury and will get better. Just hope it's not this weekend.

Agree. This is not a gimme as implied on another thread. This bloke is playing for an AFL coaching career as are half the team and to think that we will win by a motza, as suggested, is a touch too confident IMO.

This definately is no gimme. If the Dees play contested hard running footy, they will be competitive. That's what won it for us against the WCE- (beautiful to watch them being driven back when in possession). If the Lions play with the same intensity, we will win. Can we? Will we?? Like Warwick rightfully said, WC game means little if we don't capitalise this week. This game is the bit after intermission. The sequel per se. And a resounding victory is imperative. Lions brimming with youthful exuberance and confidence to post biggest win of the year.

If Adcock plays in the midfield and Copeland plays forward, who will go to Davey? I think Shermo has played on him before but he's obviously not an option this week. Do we use Selwood as a back half player like last week and give him the job? He'll play tight but could be exposed for pace.

I would be interested to see if McGrath might be used as a defender when Davey is used up forward....Leigh has tried this before to not great effect but he may try it again

hoping to see Clark back.
Surely some of these positions names are a joke, would you really put Brennan back in defense after the last 2 weeks efforts. Hope Adcock get some time in the middle again, he's been sensational this year, and looked to add that little bit extra class in the midfield.
No CJ yet either, hope he comes back soon:)

Leigh has taken too naming players where the non-lions watchers would assume they will play....we all know better though that Leigh has tried some different things this year.

I would give Hamill a run on Davey. Wil has good pace and it would be a chance to show what he could do in such a job. If Davey moved up into the midfield which he occasionally does I wouldn't mind seeing Hooper run with him in the midfield for a while to see how he goes.

A little out of the box perhaps but at this stage of the year I say we experiment a bit.

Yeah i know your prabably right notting 18, I just had big question marks over Brennan in defense this year. He just looked so much more comfortable up forward last couple weeks. As long as theres guys up there making leads taking marks, i would not expect them to kick 4 goals every week. I just hated seeing Browny triple teamed every week. So if guys like Clark, Brennan can relieve some of the pressure, its all good.

On a side note though, our midfield have been moving the ball inside 50 much quicker the last couple weeks, which helps our forwards. Good to see boys keep it up.:thumbsu:

What a terrible quarter.

We haven't won this yet boys. Trying to be too cute atm.
Wasn't quite terrible, but the sentiments are right. The didn't capitalise, but we seemed quite lost as they restricted our run. We need to push through and find a way to play it on our terms, or play plan B better!

Is Black injured?
Hyperextended his knee (didn't look good), came off and got it strapped and is now back on and still in on fire.

He may be under an injury cloud next week as it will probably swell up and he is a little hampered with it still, but no serious damage.

Haha good work Joshhem.

All in all, not a great game. We should have gone on with it in the end, but perhaps the trip to Perth and the emotion from that game hurt us a bit. Our skills were not great tonight, missing too many targets. It was just lucky Melbourne were woeful. That's not to say we didn't do enough. We played good footy for the majority.

Jared Brennan had an absolute blinder! Must be played up forward from now on. Copeland and Hooper both impressed me as well.

Patfull was just about BOG. He must be kept back from now on. Merrett was rock-solid as always.

Leuenberger looked very good as well. I hope he keeps his place next week. Either Mills or Hamill will make way for Clark.

Charman's ruckwork disappointed me again this week. He would tap it straight down the throat of a Demons' player 9/10. He provided good link-up work though. I would be tempted to play him as a permanent forward next week and bring Wood in. Our forward line will be gigantic, but it may be an option.

A very good win by the Lions. Lethal again got his tactics right and although there were times when the Lions played sloppy (the second quarter especially), most of the players moved the ball very well.

Brown was clearly our best player but Lappin and Power were dominant in midfield and Drummond again was sensational from defence. Copeland and Brennan proved to be very useful extra targets again, Stiller and Notting were also very good in midfield and Leuenberger is showing some very good signs. Mills didn't score any goals but he took some decent marks, Hooper made some explosive runs and Patful played his best game, keeping Robbo quiet.

Rischi was probably the only one that played poorly. He scored one goal, set up Adcock's goal but he made a few errors when in possession. Did anyone pay attention to his tackles though? He's good at those but I didn't focus too much on who specifically applies tackles in the big packs tonight.

Two in a row now and we have Carlton next week. Let's capitalise on Carlton's plethora of flaws. We might be missing a few players though.

He's playing better than a month or two ago, but yes he does turn the ball over too often.

I think its safe to say that we aren't the worst team in the comp we just played them!

WELL DONE LIONS!

BTW Are we a slight chance of making the finals or is it all over red rover?
