With WCE 9% in front of us and the Bombers 7% in front, a big win here could make the difference... as much as we'd been thinking percentage would not be worth chasing for us, it certainly is now that the Eagles and Bombers have copped some heavy losses.

We need to drop a tall (Brown probably), and inject some skills (Didak?). We will destroy them, but we really need to get some confidence through the group in the way we play again.

On a side note: Seeing the way sides like North [I really rate them as a future on-field power - the only thing stopping them now is the gap between their best and worst], Adelaide, West Coast and Hawthorn move the ball, I'm really beginning to think we're falling behind the eight ball. I know it seems reactionary following a bad loss, but the trend of the manner in which we lose, and even the way we grind out victories, really is resounding. We have to start being more deliberate and precise with our build up, because right now, all we do is put the ball on the boot as quick as possible and bomb forward. We look our best when we rebound off half-back and play on at all costs, but even then, we're not as precise as the aforementioned sides.

I know we're still in the top 4 and sitting nicely. But I feel like we will fall further behind if we don't adjust the way we move the ball.

and how bad we are been playing I would give GWS a Outside Chane to Upset us

We'll win, but I don't think it'll be the percentage boosting shellacking that some are predicting or expecting.

Some predicted that we'd send Melbourne into orbit and we only came away with a serviceable win.

I just don't think dishing out shellackings is in our mindset this year.

My tip: Collingwood by 5 goals.

you forgot to add the 1 before the 5

I think there are sgnificant gains to be had v GWS. Firsly we will win and gain some percentage which will now be important as TRS points out. It may well mean we can afford another loss in the last 2 games, but i would have some comfort in that we had WCE covered with percentage.
Perhaps more importantly, after this game we have Wellingham back, Sinclair and DIdak available and possibly with a game under their belt. We will have a much better balanced side on the park ( one less tall).

On refectlion, after watching the Hawks game again today, we really did select a very poor side. Particularly knowing Sinclair was doubtful ( probably knew he woudlnt play so knowing Mooney would play) selecting Young and Seedsman against a side like Hawthorn was always asking way too much.

I
No time for experiments or blooding of new players. Get the experienced players back into the team ASAP and go for the jugular. 4 quarters of footy at 110%.

Totally agree however I would consider resting Daisy and maybe Jolly. Daisy looked to be struggling with his foot injury on Saturday.

I would like to see some tactical changes take place

Drop Brown - Send Tarrant back to prepare him for finals.
Keep Goldsack up front - he applies good pressure and kicks goals
Rest Jolly, Thomas, Sidebottom & Cloke

Bring in Sinclair, Buckley, Paine, Wood & Rounds.

Give Mooney a full game with Buckley to be the sub.

We will flog them, they will be competitive for the first quarter as they are a talented and well drilled unit. But after that our bigger bodies and better players will work over them.'

Hopefully Cloke can get some confidence up, same with Dawes who have a chance to monster their smaller players..Pies by 113.

Out: Young, Dawes, Thomas, Brown
In: Rounds, Ceglar, Sinclair, Didak

Tarrant down back.

Dawes, Thomas and Brown a week off footy to freshen up.

Test out Cegs in that 2nd ruck role.

Reward Rounds' good form in the VFL with a senior game, Young to miss out as he is most similar. Would like to see what Mooney and Seeds can do against GWS.

Back Cloke in to clunk a few and get some confidence and aggro back.

GWS have had many games this year when they have conceded large strings of goals in a row:
Round 1 vs Sydney: 7 in a row
Rd 2 vs NM: 12
Rd 3 vs WC: 10 out of 11
Rd 6 vs Carl: 9 of 10
Rd 7 vs GC: 7 of 8
Rd 8 vs Bris: 9
Rd 9 vs Ess: 7 of 8
Rd 10 vs Geel: 12 of 14
Rd 13 vs Melb: 15 of 16
Rd 14 vs Syd: 11 of 13
Rd 15 vs Haw: 17 of 18 (28 of 32 overall)
Rd 16 vs Adel: 13 of 14
Rd 17 vs Frem: 11

Even if they start well, they invariably tire. We should smash them.

they've rested a lot of their better players last week just so they can do better against us...

kinda sucks how the rest of the competition tries that little bit harder against us. Oh well, makes us stronger in the long run i guess

Been Happening long as I can Remember

Sorry people no resting for this game! Collingwood' s percentage is poor at the moment: AND WE NEED A BETTER PERCENTAGE TO STAY TOP 4!!!!!!!! - our best side v GWS

B: Toovey – Tarrant – Maxwell
HB: Shaw – Reid – O’Brien
C: Sidebottom – Beams – D. Thomas
HF: Fasolo – Cloke – Goldsack
F: Blair – Dawes – Paine
FL: Jolly – S. Pendlebury – Swan
INT: Sinclair – Seedsman – Young
SUB: Mooney

I know Dawes wasn't great, but I actually thought he was decent in the ruck. At least when Dawes rucked, it went to our players more often than not, at least that's how it looked.

Jolly looked like he was actually tapping it to Mitchell. Had a horror day in the ruck Jolly. I'd give him the week off and see how Witts or Ceglar do.

On the margin, everyone assumes we'll belt them, but I don't think we will. We just don't look like that kind of side this season. We seem to do what we need to and that's it. Whether that's intentional or not I have no idea. But I'd be surprised if we won by more than 10 goals to be honest.

Against most sides, 10 goals is a lot, but not against GWS.

This has actually become a big game in terms of our ladder position. There is a cluster of sides now from 1-6 who may be around the same points at the end of the year. Our percentage is horrible this year & a good percentage could mean top 4 or not - its basically worth a game. Currently, its hard to see us top 2 mainly because even if we catch up games we will still be behind Adelaide, Hawks & Swans on %.

Doing the ladder predictor - with us losing no games we end up third. Having us lose 1-2 games (Swans & WC) we end up 3-5, depedning on %.

A massive win against GWS could be the difference between staying 4th or slipping to 5th behind West Coast.

We have to pick a full strength side and win by as much as possible. I will be shattered if its not 100+.

I've been saying for months that our percentage will be irrelevant come September, WELL I WAS WRONG.

Well to be fair if we had of kept winning I wouldn't have been wrong, but now we need percentage.

I firmly believe we are now competing with West Coast for fourth spot, so even though it may come down to the round 22 game in WA, we still may be able to finish ahead of them on percentage.

If you are 95% fit, you play this week, with maybe the exception of Jolly who we all know needs to be managed.
