Well its 2 games in and i must say i have been impressed by Fremantle's form this year thus far, a different game plan has them playing exciting and quite impressive football. Both teams are undefeated so far and have beaten Essendon at Etihad.

Ins and outs

Fremantle has Tarrant in doubt with an ankle, and Ibbotson with a shoulder. So that there is a possibly that 2 changes will be made, maybe Steven Dodd and the big Kepler Bradley maybe bought in to cover the lose of Tarrant. Kepler then could pinch hit in the ruck.

Geelong has Scarlett, Mooney and young gun Motlop to miss, so who do we bring in?? The Ob replacement for Mooney is the big Pods, he seems to have became a cult figure and with some strong performances in the VFL praccy matches hopefully he can get a run and make an impact. Now is maybes Pods chance to cement himself in the team. Milburn if recovered will be the replacement for Scarlett, if he isn't then it does get a bit tricky, maybe Djekurra (spelling?) or Gillies or even Laidler. For Motlop im hoping Gamble gets a go, he seems to have fallen out of favour with the selectors and now is the time for him to shine and kick some goals before the little Stoksey is back. Hogan might even be rushed back for that extra midfield rotation, or another first gamer might be groomed while the season is still young. Maybe Christenson???? Or maybe Rooke will be back but he ob doesnt seem fit enough yet.

Match ups

Ottens/Blake v Sandilands

This is gunna be a huge matchup, Sandilands is the premier ruckman at the moment and Harvey likes to ruck him for most of the match without rest. Its up to Ottens and Blake to win the tap and to push forward at every opportunity, Ottens does this with ease but the the big blake just seems to make simple things look hard. Ottens contested marking should be a huge factor in the winner of the game because without Mooney he may have to spend more time forward.

Lonergan v Pavlich

Pavlich is a gun, Lonergan just needs to do what he has been doing so far this year and that is to shut up the baggers on here and dominate another key forward, his confidence will grow with each game and key forward he keeps honest. Pavlich loves Subi and will go a huge way in deciding the winner.

Ablett v Crowley

Crowley has been annoying in the past, and will be again. Ablett just needs to turn it on like donkey kong and absolutley dominate. Get back at the pest where it counts and kick a few sausage rolls too.

Hasleby/Barlow v Ling

This is where Fremantle have been dominating. Sandilands is always gunna win the lions share of the ruck taps, but this year his rovers have been getting the clearances. Barlow might only be in his 3rd game but his all ready proved his worth with succesive 30+ poss games, he is a 190cm roving running machine and if Ling and do his freckley best at not getting sunburnt and stopping one of these then Freo might just fall to pieces.

Game breakers

Fremantle's game breakers are Pavlich and Sandilands.

Geelong's are Chapman, Stevie J and Byrnes.

With the open spaces of Subi then i can see Byrnes and Stevie dominating, and actually kicking half of the teams goals between them. I can sense Chapman having a big one, and the new lap swim wave pool thing that they have got might work wonders on the guitar strings of Chapmans and he will slot a few from outside 50.

Outcome

I actually think it might be a blowout, dont know why but i can just see Geelong doing what they do best and intimidate Fremantle into there old ways. Ablett will star. Cats by 44. Byrnes to kick 6.

AFL Round 3 preview - Fremantle v Geelong, Subiaco

A nice hypothetical. As the title suggests who goes out:

Brynes: he's safe as houses
Duncan: cannot be dropped on his superb form
Motlop: Injured obv... so he goes
Lonergan: played pretty well so far, deserves to hold his spot

Obviously alot comes down to matchups in the coming weeks (6-7 weeks in Travis's case, and no injuries:eek:) but hypothetically who would go go out if these three players were ready next week?

Re: Milburn, Varcoe, Rooke to come in... who goes out???!!

I think Wojcinski can definitely sit one out.

Re: Milburn, Varcoe, Rooke to come in... who goes out???!!

Motlop, Wokak and I'm afraid Duncan

he's only 18,

could anyone pick him over Varcoe, Dasher or Rooke

he's got tons of time

Motlop looked good for the short time he was on also

Re: Milburn, Varcoe, Rooke to come in... who goes out???!!

I dont think any of these guys will be available for selection next week.

And I wouldn't be surprised if I Scarlo and maybe even Mooney have a holiday next week so maybe Pods maybe comes in with Gamble for the trip West

Down the track Wojo has to be vulnerable , at his age and not being in our best. Id rather have Duncan or some other kid. I wouldn't rush Rooke back either. He should be put behind glass that says "break when approaching finals" . Well maybe not but if his knee, ankle is a degenerative tendentious type thing I doubt it will not get much better playing him. Play the kids , have the seasoned guys ready when needed.

Motlop > Gamble , Taylor Hunt

If...
Mooney > Pods
Scarlett > Gamble Taylor Hunt

Re: Milburn, Varcoe, Rooke to come in... who goes out???!!

I have a feeling Dasher will be kept out another week , carnt see them taking him to Perth

Re: AFL Round 3 preview - Fremantle v Geelong, Subiaco

Ibbotson and Tarrant in doubt according to Channel 10.

Ibbotson gone with dislocated shoulder.

Tarrant maybe not

And the club has received an early boost ahead of its home clash against the Cats, for it seems injured key defender Chris Tarrant is likely to play.

Tarrant was in doubt after rolling his ankle in Fremantle’s drought-breaking win over Essendon on Sunday, but the early prognosis is good.

He is talking about possible suspensions.

Re: AFL Round 3 preview - Fremantle v Geelong, Subiaco

I would say there'll be none of these three returnees people are talking of.

Seeing Rooke play on Saturday, he clearly needs more fitness work, and you can't take him from a half in the vfl, to a whole game at subi. And a 33 year old isn't making the trip after one week out with a hammy.

The only 'returnee' could possibly be Hogan if they think he's fit enough.
Duncan played more than well enough to keep his spot.

So...I suspect only one change to replace the injured Motlop.
If form is the determinant, it really has to be Pods. Since he was the designated emergency for today, and played great on Saturday, so he'd be really unlucky for someone to leapfrog him.
We did play 3 talls for most of the second half, and it didn't seem to screw our structure, so it's a distinct possibility.

When I saw the Mooney bump at the ground, I didn't think it was a definite holiday, but I haven't seen a slo mo replay yet, so I could be mistaken.

Re: AFL Round 3 preview - Fremantle v Geelong, Subiaco

Gamble in for Motlop, Pods in for Mooney if suspended, Gillies in for Scarlett if out for whatever. What about Drum playing at Freo's turf? Is he still injured? We are going to need some fresh legs next week, unless the powers have decided this could be a game we drop for recovery reasons, like last year after the Saints game. Admittedly that was after we'd won a dozen in a row.
