Had a bit of a think about this game. Geelong should control the hit outs, but the game will be won or lost by who can apply the most pressure. If Geelong can match Collingwoods ferocity (eg. tackles) then they should be able to get over the line with a stronger line up. If Geelong come into the match lazy and not willing to chase and tackle all night Collingwood will get up.

Geelong's achilles heel is in the ruck without Ottens.

The pies to lay over 90 tackles on Friday and the cats thanks to their stubborn obsession with moving it through the corridor will be coughing it up more than a tuberculoses patient.

One thing for sure is there'll be no salad sandwhiches for bomber Thompson in the coaches box.

Pies easily by 49 although it could be more if they don't put the cue in the rack early in the 4th.
The dawning of a new handbaggers era is upon us ladies and gentlemen.

Can's ask for more than 2 flags in 3 years.

You do understand the concept of pre-recording footage and then cutting to it later in the broadcast, yes?

If not, I'd hate to think how you'd try to understand how TV stations manage to get AFL players to re-enact a goal or mark in slow-motion.

Don't think the result will mean much for Geelong. It means a lot more to Collingwood's mental state.

They are doing well at the moment and if they beat or be competitive against Geelong, it will give them a lot of confidence going further in the season. That being said, if they get belted they will start to doubt themselves seriously.

I don't think Collingwood has as many answers against Geelong as they think they have. Jolly has never been the stud against Blake that some are suggesting. Infact, his record against Blake is relatively poor in comparison to general record.

Ball will come into his own over the next couple of months in the wet but I don't know if his impact will be significant in September especially if it's sunny. A wet September and he could be very serviceable.

The addition of Pods and effectively Hunt are two big ins for Geelong compared to 2009. So Geelong haven't stood still.

Collingwood also nearly took Geelong down this time last year didn't they? Timing is important and I'm not sure if Collingwood have the stamina to be up in 17 rounds time.

Some people consider a 27 point loss to Geelong as 'nearly taking them down', but I don't.

We smashed you in 2008, and were pretty close to the mark in 2007. Then when you consider we also smashed you in 2006, that is reasonable form prior to 2009.

I'm not sure that it is. If you smash us this week, go on to lose the next 2, then smash whoever you've got after that will you consider it reasonable form? Inconsistent would be a more appropriate word.

Boy does Harry O'Brian believe his own press now or what! If its not being ambassador for Australia to meet Obama, its having crap half time shows about his drama classes to enlighten us to how sophisticated and worldly he is....and now he is collingwoods new spokesman! (not that says much...nick maxwell!)

Advice for Harry, mate, your a footballer, shut-up and get down to being a decent one before you start accepting nobel peace prizes, because you have a long way to go in my opinion and i'm sure little Jnr and Stevie J are looking forward to giving you another 'life lesson' on the weekend.

As for the rest of the 'mob' squad....they are like the little engine that could, always believing that if they act tough and present physically from the start that they will scare our boys into submission....didn't work before, won't work now. Am looking forward to the 'rejuvenated' Travis Cloke, who has had two 'massive' games against Adam Mcphee and Zac Dawson being given a lesson in respect via Harry Taylor, and I'm pretty sure that Chris Dawes will go the same way as Anthony and Rocca on Scarlett (hope he is good at dummy runs?). Didak and Davis will be subjected to Enright and Mackie, and as before will go missing.... could work through the whole list but whats the point.

Just like Harry, Collingwood just seem to come out and believe all there own press....in May! I'm pretty content to just let our football do the talking, and as a champion team, worry about the big things later in september!

rumour is Collingwood is looking to bring in a soft rebounder from their VFL team this week (Jordan Russell type) to play on Stevie J. Apparently that player will get 30+ touches and run off a disinterested Stevie incessantly. Sounds like a reasonable plan to me. No use wasting a half decent player like Shaw on him.

Wow that was so pathetically stupid.

Don't know if it's a continuing tradition but I'll give it a go for this week

"Isn't this the type of game we usually lose?":)

Is HOBo playing tomorrow night ?
I thought the saviour would be too busy wandering through the crowd collecting knives from the Collingwood supporters.

No JUBJUB, first he has to heal the sick - which coincidentally involves a lot of dentistry amongst the collingwood ranks - then he will perform his second miracle and turn water into cheap, mid strength watered down beer... perhaps then he will disband the masses of their collective weapons and then look to turn his attention to football....

Either way, i'm sure Barrack will be watching along.....

Harry is just a young, naive, nice person trying to discover his identity as any bloke in his mid twenties is wont to go through. Must be pretty pharking confusing trying to work out what kind of person you are when you have teammates like Thomas the pansy, thugs like Swan and Didak, and Maxwell the big sook as captain. Couple those guys with a pr!ck like Malthouse and anyone's development will be arrested down at Pieland.

2007 Prelim still hurts, hey?

2008, Round 9 - Collingwood 134 def. Geelong 48
2007, Prelim - Geelong 92 def. Collingwood 87
2007, Round 15 - Geelong 80 def. Collingwood 64

Head to head.

We smashed you in 2008, and were pretty close to the mark in 2007. Then when you consider we also smashed you in 2006, that is reasonable form prior to 2009.

Did you fail at comprehension in primary school though? Because, I've stated several times that I agreed with the original poster.

What you fail to comprehend is that you had one good game in 2008 against us where after dominating the comp for close to 12 months we finally took a night off. That doesn't mean you have a good record against us in 2007 and 2008.
5 losses out of six games hardly says you "match up well".
Unless you consider losing to us under 10 goals a win.
Maybe near enough is good enough for the Magpie army?

I remember the game in 08 well.
I had 2 pies supporters at my house.

I gave them 10 goals in before the game started :D :(

Great review Dave, thanks for the effort.

It will be a good game. Be interesting to see if Presti comes in (surely he will) and whether you play 3 tall defenders. For what its' worth I think you should. I think if Malthouse insists on trying to play him on one of the talls, whoever that is will go to the square and Maxwell will spend most of his night there. I would say his greatest value to Collingwood is as a 3rd man up/defensive co ordinator if you like, rather than a 1-1 defender. Then again, if they play him on a non tall, like Chapman, he will have his hands equally full so it will be interesting.

Shaw is inconsistent but can be damaging. I'd like to see Kelly play on him, but as you say, we may not assign a tagging type role to him/

The ruck will be critical...obviously we need a massive game from Blake without Otto.

For me the key is tackling, you know how we'll play and we won't change it, so to beat it you have to force turnovers, and to do that, you must tackle quickly and repeatedly. Whichever team can win this area, is where I feel the game will be won and lost.

Don't think the ruck will be as critical this time around. Blake is ever improving in actual ruck contests and to be honest will probably out ruck Jolly, i expect Jolly to obviously be more influential around the ground, but thats not saying much. In fact it would be pleasing to see Jolly try and go deep and provide a tall target as i think we defend much better against this and it encourages the Pies to bomb long.

Otto' would dominate yes, but don't think it will be a disadvantage with Hawkins and Blake.

With Stokes, Varcoe and Byrnes we have our own little rat pack up front, so the forward pressure is something that we can apply in spades! But forget about tackling and pressure - we need to get the ball first and win the contested. I don't care if Collingwood has 200 tackles, the more the better really as it means that we have the ball more and generally when that happens we win the game of football!
