More tight security at the crossover
They were checking tickets at the bar. So not only did I miss out on tickets in the AFL reserve as a gold member of 30 years I also was allowed access to the bar. Lucky we had one ticket in the AFL reserve that got us all in the bar.

Why the bar? Are you not allowed in the bar if youre seats on level 4 lol

To stop non AFL members from accessing it as they are no longer manning the cross over gate.
I complained at gate 7 at the membership office. I said youre hippocrites you keep saying membership is non transferable but then you let everyone into our area.its been like that the whole finals series.
Its a disgrace the MCC would never allow that

So you can show an AFL members ticket and get in? I thought it was no access, only dining room tickets.
The Haydyn Buntan Bar in B1 near m23. It was well over crowded very early for the Qualifying Final. I'm guessing members complained so they did something about it.

Remember in 2018 the grand final allocation for non competing gold members sold out in 7 minutes.

This is with Collingwood having 7,000 gold members and West Coast 200.

Going to be a schmozzle for non competing gold members on Sunday if it's the likely Collingwood V Brisbane outcome.

Well if its Collingwood Carlton it will be the first time competing gold members have ever missed.

i know we all like to have a whine in here, but assuming you are gold, and your team makes it. Unless its two of the big 4 you are pretty much guaranteed a GF ticket.

That's the main value of an AFL membership when your team makes a GF. How easy it was to get a ticket in 2017 and 19 with no stress. I think it's only Collingwood playing one of the other bigger Melbourne clubs where it could get tricky. They have way more gold members than anyone else.

You are complaining to the wrong people though.

So by now you would expect Collingwood to be around 11k gold and Carlton maybe 6k. No way they would all get in next week.
There is no way Collingwood and Carlton account for 17k out of 30k Gold members. With 30k Gold members only, every time someone is upgraded, someone else has to drop off.

So you believe the other 16 clubs share 13k between them?
In banzai's defense he/ she was just quoting based on another post.

People make the mistake of thinking numbers keep growing, but of course people don't renew each year, otherwise silvers would never get in.
I have said it before but I will say it again (and someone correct me if I am wrong, but 2011 joins haven't got in yet):

Current data would be good but actually old data is not as bad as we might think. It seems the newly minted Gold members are the class of 2010 so 2010 figures (see AFL Annual Reports) give us some idea of what AFL Gold might comprise of. Assuming an even rate of attrition I estimate:
Collingwood 7073
Carlton 4351
Essendon 4145
Richmond 2763
Geelong 2706
Hawthorn 2097
St Kilda 1904
North 1210
Bulldogs 1133
Melbourne 1083
Sydney 468
Brisbane 433
Adelaide 281
West Coast 169
Port 101
Freo 82
Gold Cost 0
GWS 0

I don't think they would be that incompetent to allow a situation where gold support miss out. You have an hour or two to snap them up. They have the numbers and will know how many bays to assign plus a couple more.

However they will also want to flog as many tickets off for 3K+ now

Only Pies numbers are growing IMO. The rest are dropping off, and getting snapped up by longer suffering, waiting Pies fans who don't give it up.

So for everyone saying competing club won’t miss out this was last years on sale email:

AFL MEMBERS' GRAND FINAL TICKETING
ON-SALE WINDOWS:

Gold Members with Competing Club Support:
11am - 1pm Sunday, September 18
via Ticketek

All Gold Members:
2pm - 4pm Sunday, September 18
via Ticketek

Didn’t have if not sold out prior in the gold member section. Make of that what you will I guess.

I would say that they have a number in mind. If Pies Blues, all gold will get a ticket and if it doesn't hit that number, they'll offer everyone else.

I reckon 13k is the cut off unless more take it up.

Tend to agree with you here. I think the backlash and exclusivity of gold will take a hit if that’s not the case. It becomes abit pointless if you follow clubs with a large gold base. But we’ll see will make for good conversation if it ends up being pies blues
