By the time he has rehabbed the knee and is back up to speed Dew will either have proved himself as 'the guy' or be gone (potentially for Clarko) and a number of other question marks will have been answered to allow him to make a more informed, long term decision.

Is Rankine's head in it? Can Rowell stay fit? How good is Hollands? Lukosius? A Ben King friendly deal.

Seems so. 2 year contract, one year of which is rehabbing? Or does the new contract begin at the end of this year?

Had a bit of a laugh . Was sitting behind some Saints supporters the other night and they just kept commenting on how great it was going to be when he came to the Saints.

The new David Swallow to North

To be fair, some bomber fans have been almost as bad. Not many Suns who are in the best 22 leave within 5 years.

Rankine (Pending cost)
Ben Ainsworth
J.Elliott (Only $$ but also hope of a flag at the end of a career)
B.Hill
L.Breust (Only if we win a final at that age)

The small forwards list in roughly that order obviously hard to tell cost as its determined a fair bit by the year they have for most.

We just picked up Tex and we're about to pick up the Davey twins. Why do we need to trade in a small forward?

Because by the start of 2023
Tippa - will be turning 30, and we all know the issues he has had
Smith - will be turning 30, with chronic knee issues
Jayden Davey - will be coming off his second ACL before the age of 18

Of the guys who don't have lingering health issues
Snelling- Rock solid
Alwyn Davey - will be in his first year of AFL football, and so expecting too much of him is unreasonable
Perkins - Long term midfielder
Wanganeen - rookie who isnt guaranteed to make it
Hird - no guarantee to be on the list and hasn't shown alot.

Long story short, picking up a small forward to compete consdiering all the question marks above wouldn't be the worst idea.

Bobby Hill would be my pick, as he has shown an ability to go through the midfield and wanted to come to us already and we put up a pretty good offer. Only GWS we're no chance of trading him he will be out of contract this year so easier to get

Hill would have been nice/would be nice.

we've lost our depth over the last 2 years - Raz, Cahill, Moz.
Tippa is all that is really left. we're lucky snelling and dev can play the roles.

Hill + Davey twins & Tippa would be good depth moving forward.

Dev at best has 12 months of some decency left in him

Were expecting to win a final and are rolling out Guelfi, Dev and Snelling as our small forwards

I hope the pressures good

The other reality is not every 18 year old kid is a gun in there first 2 years. In fact very few are

I know we think a Davey will be a kossie pickett or weightman year 2 but there the exception not the norm

I think hoping would be a better word than expecting. Internally I'd hope the club has a lid firmly shut on things.

There’s very few on our VFL list that I’d be comfortable chopping out in the AFL if required given the COVID list rule.

Might influence us to sign some ex AFL players to the VFL just in case or we could just cop it and use it as an opportunity to get a look at someone.

Names starting to filter through now, we’ve signed Lukas Webb, Dees have signed Lonie and apparently Zaharakis (?) and Giants have signed Mummy for the 80th time.

Chook wouldn’t do it but he’d be the perfect insurance policy type selection.

Webb had some supporters on this board a couple of years ago IIRC.

I was one of them. He played a sensational VFL season and finals campaign in 2015 or 2016.

Blew his career up trying to break into the Dogs side and turning Carlton down. He did end up on the Blue's rookie list, I think, but when it's 3 or 4 years later the opportunity is not the same.

The best example of why, when you're a fringe player, you leave every time a club comes with a promise of game time.

Clubs always think they can win flags let alone a final. A final win is a lid for a previous top 8 side

Maybe a mix between aim and expectation

There can also be an issue with putting a cap on aims/expectations

Eh? You reckon North or Adelaide have themselves convinced they are legitimately gearing up for a premiership tilt this year?

Winning the premiership might be the aim of every club eventually, but the key to getting there as quickly as you can is realizing how far you ar away and planning appropriately. Sometimes you realise you arent close and can plan to get their accordingly. If that's 'putting a cap on expectations', then that isn't unhealthy at all.

There was no indication from last year that tells me we are anywhere close to a flag in the next 18 months. I think we will be flat out making the top 8 with absolutely everything going right

They don’t put any limits on the seasons potential to what they express to players, but internally as a coaching group they’d see the outlook differently. If you are expected to finish above the bottom 6 and are not rebuilding it would definitely be the ‘why not us’ approach, even though privately they know the window will most likely open in 2-3 years.

We're talking about privately though. I specifically said internally and Keystone agony seems to think that's wrong, they're aiming for a flag. Well, he did until you posted this and now he seems to agree with you, which leaves me confused as to why he disagreed with me.

Btw you think internally the coaches and players aren't open and honest? That the coaches say one thing to the players and another amongst themselves?
